I`m rather closer to the story, since I live here.

The simple answer is that you`re wrong.

Considering how comprehensively and systematically the NotW broke laws and violated privavcy as a matter of company policy, the story has been understated if anything.

I`m sure other papers violate privacy. I wouldn`t be surprised if other sleazy tabloids have bought illegally obtained information from time to time. Few people care much about that.

But perverting the cause of justice in a murder investigation is on a different level.

@CrakrJak, As I have shown, Fox news spent a total of 75 seconds reporting this story in a 24 hour news cycle. That is after it was proven to be real. They spent far more air time are far less important stories. You are pointing at a mountain and trying to explain why it is a mole hill.

Let me ask you this: when has allegations EVER stopped Fox News before? Fox News has ruined peoples lives over allegations that later prove to be false. Fox News has INVENTED false allegations that they have reported as truth. Your defense of Fox News is sicking.

Irrelevant but I`ll entertain it nonetheless.

There are VERY FEW govt programs that do work, but there are many that don`t and are a major liability.

Just look at the disaster social security is.

Yes it is. It is about the news media not only stealing parts of your private life, but also how they affected a family the the search for a little girl.

To all of you defending Faux News: It`s ok to live your life not really knowing what is going on in the world around you. You feel better believing lies because it helps put the blame on someone else. You are conservative, republicans that believe in a system that doesn`t believe in you. You say Obama wants to raise your taxes. I could show you that for most of you that is not even true. Only the rich. But for some reason you feel he means you when most of you are poor...like 99% of America. You hear socialize and freak out. Why? Everyone pays taxes and everyone gets an education and free heath care. It works for 90% of the world why not us? I went to a hospital in Korea and payed $20 for a

You didn`t show anything for any others on Fox, only Brett Baier.
And as I`VE shown, the Baier coverage you referred to happened AFTER Fox were called out for it by this CNN report, so it`s irrelevant to whether or not CNN`s accusation was wrong at the time it was made.
Allegations are not proof
It`s already been proven. People are in jail. Heads are rolling. Murdoch is personally apologising to the family of Milly Dowler. It happened. All that`s left to discover is the extent of their criminal behaviour.
I believe some liberals, with an axe to grind, are indeed exaggerating the story for political gain
There`s nothing to exaggerate. They broke the law by hacking into people`s phones, and they perverted the course of justice by interfering with an ongoing police investigation when they deleted recorded messages on Milly Dowler`s phone, making police and family think she was still alive. These are facts.

And that`s ignoring the immorality and callousness of targeting bereaved families for the sake of a story.

The fact that you`re even attempting to downplay the NoTW`s despicable behaviour is appalling in itself. Their behaviour should sicken any human with a trace of empathy.

NottaSpy: As I`ve shown Brett Baier and others on Fox News HAVE INDEED covered the NotW story.

Notw is not Fox News, despite what their parent company is. KFC is not Taco Bell even though they are both owned by Yum! Foods.

I notice you love saying the word `Sheep` quite a lot, apparently you have a serious Ovis obsession, or perhaps a very narrow minded view of the world.

This story has it all: Police corruption, terrorism, hacking, heads of foreign states, scandal, senators, FBI investigations, a major corporation, despicable behavior, missing/murdered children, 9/11 victims, corporate takeovers, nepotism, resignations, cover-up, a billionaire, an apology, jailed editors, and...

Then you have a cable station that promotes itself as "fair and balanced", that thinks of itself as a news channel, and that doesn`t find this story worth reporting. A cable channel that has called for strong and swift action in similar situations that have far less scope.

But that`s not the best part. The best part is that this cable channel, that already has a long history of lies, bias, and corruption is still being defended by the mindless sheep. People who can`t take a step back and realize that they have been misinformed and manipulated. They try to put up a fight, but the rest of us see how weak and pathetic their arguments are.

Not within the remit of news and news agency review you don`t. Which is the primary purpose of the Fox News Watch show (the clue is in the name).
And it`s not an exclusively foreign story when the owner is an American businessman and the company is a worldwide media corporation.
And I guess the impending government default on Aug 2nd, The Casey Anthony hub bub, Carmeggedon in LA, The final space shuttle flight, The continuing war in Libya, and other topics should take a backseat to an exaggerated scandal in the UK ?
Firstly, I didn`t say it was the biggest news story, I said it was the biggest one to do with the news-reporting media, which is what that show specialises in - examining how other media agencies are reporting news. No other news story about media agencies has been anything like this big anywhere in the world this year.

Secondly, it`s neither exaggerated nor exclusive to the UK. The NoTW`s actions, conducting illegal phone hacking on bereaved victims, are both morally repugnant and criminal. And your very own FBI are now investigating whether News Corp also hacked the phones of 9/11 victims and their families.

But nice of you to play down their disgusting behaviour as exaggerated.

It`s only a story about a corporation that owns about 40 newspapers, 9 magazines, 30+ tv channels, the 20th century fox & more.. We already knew that it used its huge power to propagate a political agenda, mostly in the US, England & Ireland but now we learn that they`re acting like criminals aswell.. why should anyone care?

Madest... Fox is not my Network. Just because I ask about the liberal bias in the media and here at this site, does not make FN my network.

You chronicled MSNBC reporting on GE, what I implied is that there are far more posts here against Fox than against it`s direct counterpart MSNBC. "Liberal bias". If it were the other way around I would be asking about "Conservative bias".

Don`t try and insult my intelligence because I don`t have your left lean. I realize that many a liberal thinks anyone that doesn`t think like him must be unintelligent, uneducated, and "redneck" (to quote another post here). I understand in a liberals eyes anyone that thinks as they has to be smart.

..... now that to me is dumb.

almightybob1: This is the biggest news-coverage-related story this year...

No, CrackrJak, he`s saying NEW-COVERAGE-RELATED story. Not general story. Take a deep breath and read fully before reacting, please.
Moreover, I agree with almightybob1. I think that if this were about any other news company, Fox would be all over it, claiming skewed reporting and hidden agendas. It is big news, it is impacting more than just the UK, and Fox just kinda let it slide. Seems iffy to me, although if they have covered it since, perhaps less so.

Getting a thrill up your leg eh ?

Well don`t hold your breath, I believe you`re going to find that other papers in the UK, not owned by Murdoch, were doing the same thing.

Also, unless you can show evidence to back up your claims of "deceit, lies, bribery and fear" here in the US then you need to quit spreading your own deceit and lies.

The fact that there are still rednecks out there coming to the defense of this station is beyond me. Murdoch`s house of cards was built on deceit, lies, bribery and fear. I`m giddy at their downfall. Looking forward to Bill O`Reilly having extra time to ponder the tides...

This is a huge story and any news network not mentioning it or waiting for the right time to do so is obviously doing it on purpose and that should be worrying to anyone with common sense.

You do realize we`re talking about hacking phones, paying for fake testimonies, paying cops, usurpation of identity etc.. ? And the Sun and the Sunday Times are also suspected in the UK.. And they`re starting an investigation in the US aswell.. And James Murdoch even paid (with company money) to silence people and try to cover up his criminal behaviour.

Brett Baier did cover the NotW hacking scandal in the UK on Fox News, last night, on his show `Special Report`.

Saturday, July 16, 2011 2:20:19 AM
Brett Baier again covered the story, in length, again tonight, Including the fact that Murdoch himself apologized for the actions of a few people employed at NotW.
So that would be the night of the 14th and the 15th respectively? Because this video was uploaded to YT on the 14th, and the timestamp in the bottom right shows it`s a morning broadcast (10:05AM ET).
So it went out before either of those Brett Baier shows. So they`re hardly evidence that the CNN accusation is incorrect.

And this ignores the fact that the clip of the Fox show is from Fox News Watch, which is ABOUT news coverage. This is the biggest news-coverage-related story this year, and they`re avoiding talking about it.

So no, CNN don`t need to apologise.

I now believe it`s time for CNN to apologize for it`s false attack on FoxNews, NewsCorp and Murdoch himself for saying they were "Dodging" the story.

Murdoch called the scandal "appalling" and that he`d "make amends". Link

OutWest, MSNBC reported on their parent company GE not paying any taxes so they don`t seem to be lying or concealing anything. When your network isn`t talking about their own worldwide scandal that could very well destroy an empire, then you know they like their audience dumb. Their plan seems to be working...

@BoredFrank- Fox News viewers would DEFINITELY pay attention to a story about hacked phones if the perpetrator had been a left-leaning media outlet, and Fox News DEFINITELY would have been all over it.

The Times covers it and that is News international but the Sun doesn`t. The Times has to really because i is a serious paper and has to report on these things. The Suns just gets a page 3 girl instead.

Like someone else said. Murdoch only owns about a third of BSkyB and just withdrew from a takeover and now that Rebecca Brooks has stepped down, Sky won`t hold back

2 days ago I recorded every single Fox News show for 24 hours straight. I was curious if they would cover the phone hacking after the allegations that the 9/11 victims were hacked.

The only show in that 24 hour period to even mention it was American News HQ. Kelly Wright spent a total of 75 seconds on the subject and the main focus of that was about the bskyb aquisition attempt and the Parliament`s reaction. No mention of the phone hacking victims or the growing scandal.

They spent more time on a minor Lady Gaga story. They mainly focused on the debt limit, which is a valid story. But they also spent more time on Lady Gaga. The time they spent on Casey Anthony coverage in the time would have totaled in a number of hours. They did do foreign stories, like the assassination of Karzai`s brother. It is painfully obvious that they avoided the story.

Imagine for a moment Fox News` outrage if it were ANYBODY else who hacked the 9/11 victims.

Since he only owns less than 40% of BSkyB (if memory serves) it is no surprise that they covered it. The over 60% shareholders most likely want to show him in a bad light so he can`t buy overall control.
