I can`t believe they chose to be gay for 76 and 84 years...because, you know, it`s a choice. Right.

That is just adorable. They`ve probably been together for 50 years, most of it in hiding, and now their love is finally sealed. :)

An iconic photograph. It is a reminder that legalizing an equal-gender partnership has a lot to do with equal rights when it comes to taxation, signing contracts, taking over responsibility for each other (e.g. when one of then gets ill) or even passing on one`s possession after death.

Sex is overrated in many comments below.

My school`s cafeteria was run by a lesbian couple. both were very sweet women who i could always count on and so could everybody, like they also played a part in our education. One passed away in 2008, i cried then and im shedding a tear now, because 2 years later, my country legalized same sex marriage and adoption. That`s only one Imagine how many couples got separated by death who could never marry because of religion. This makes me wanna go and seriously hurt a conservative christian.

Imagine how difficult and secretive their lives had to be when they were young teenagers...it was even more unacceptable back then and they would have had no support system. SO BRAVO for finally getting what any human deserves.

Too cute. They probably waited their whole lives for this moment. Unlike many straight couples, who marry young and get divorced months later.

"Good for them and all, but I have to say why bother they`ve probably been together for 50 years so why spend that last week of life arguing as a married couple."

Some close friends of mine, after being together 20+ years, got a civil partnership (same rights as marriage here) simply because one of them was going for an operation and, if the worst happened (he`s in his 70s), he wanted his partner to not lose their home (having to sell it to pay inheritance tax) and still be able to live off of his pension (widows/widowers inherit their deceased spouse`s pensions).

Please note these are things that straight married couples can do, and that is taken for granted by them.

I imagine similar pragmatic considerations may be at work here...aside from the simple principle of the thing.

Ya Martin is right. Encouraging equality even when we don`t agree is disgusting. How could anyone justify doing what they want with their lives despite being told others dislike it. They should be forced to live half-lives in the eyes of the law because some people don`t like what they do.

Feel free to exit our earth anytime you are ready Martin.

Best photo of the week ! I`m gratified to know slowly but surely America is embracing the fact that homosexuality is not going to just go away if ignored , I wish i could understand truely what this means for the homosexual community because it must be more than a mere victory it has to be close to the acceptance (close but not quite which sucks)everyone deserves regardless of race, color, creed, sexual preference or bubble gum flavor

What im surprised by is this wasnt allowed much earlier. The homophobic attitude in the U.S is goddamn disgusting.

"oh no. He/she likes someone of the opposite sex. He must be evil and unnatural!"

@Listypoos

"Waited 30 years and still didn`t bother dressing up for it?"

Marriage is about the life after the ceremony.

My opinion is that those who go all out for a lavish fancy ceremony are compensating for some fundamental lack in the relationship.
