I love how non-Christians bash all Christians equally when it`s really only the small minority of fundamentalist creationists who still base their beliefs on the calculations made by Bishop Usher(sp?), and the rest of the Christian world accepts the theory of evolution as being consistent with the canon of their belief system.

I`m a Christian and I don`t believe that the world is that young. You`re looking at a small cross section of Christianity.

And to people who call us crazy, scientist are currently selling a theory of "dark energy" and "dark matter." We can`t see it or detect it, but we know it`s there. You just have to look at science through the same goggles.

And also when they looked up they found out that earth was disc shaped and not a sphere, contrary to to modern non Christian idiotic scientific studies! The bible says earth is a a flat disc and the we found out that fact to be true in 1969. Also the Apollo spacecraft was powered by "the grace" of god and not rocket fuel, but that is only known to Christians as our Christian US government thought non-Christian Scientists will find it rather complicated to understand the power of God`s Grace. The non-Christian scientists where given the job of doing useless mathematical calculation and making dumb ass navigational system just to keep them busy and to distract them from the mysterious ways of God! Scientists were sure the moon was millions of years old they expected the dust layer on the moon to be up to 2 feet thick, it`s why the struts on the landing gear were built so high.

Of course they estimated the dust layer being so thick because of the amount of dust the Earth collects every year from space or. Of course Armstrong only stepped into less than an inch of dust on the moon proving that whole estimate wrong.

So as you can see boys and girls even scientists get it wrong from time to time, The only problem is when they are wrong no one screams `False Teaching!" and wants science banned.

Just like when I was a kid and was told under no uncertain terms that the Earth couldn`t possibly handle a population of 6 billion people and that we were headed for another ice age. Now we have over 7 billion people on Earth and are being scare mongered into believing global warming.

Maybe in a few more years they`ll switch back to the ice age theory

I like how the "real Christians" that are representative of the larger cross section of christianity who don`t actually believe what the bible says, yet they still consider it the basis for the way to live their life.

How is the bible like an End User License agreement? The people they apply to don`t actually read them, they just scroll to the end and click "I agree".

Are the christians who don`t believe in ID worse than those that do?
At least the creationists are committed and faithful to their religious teachinngs. These modern christians have said "I will believe this part, but not that. This line is true but the one under it is not." When did God clue you in to the Bible 2.5 Condensed version?

Cherry Picking Christians might as well just say "I don`t have a religion, I just make a guess."

If God is the same yesterday, today, and forever as the good? book says, then you have to accept the whole, sour parts as well, not just the parts that taste good.

So, men stop shavig, women be silent, and go sell your youngest daughters. Exodus 21:7

@CrakrJak predictions change all of the time. in the case with the moon, when you`re sending humans to the moon costing billions, and there was a possibility there could be 2 feet of dust which could be hazardous, better safe than sorry.

"So as you can see boys and girls even scientists get it wrong from time to time, The only problem is when they are wrong no one screams `False Teaching!" and wants science banned."

Thats because scientists don`t just make poo up. it`s mathamaticaly based theory that can be tested or observed, and when they`re wrong no one has to scream "False teaching" because scientists unlike fundamental religious. will admit they`re wrong..

Moon dust wasn`t 2 feet deep, so OBVIOUSLY global warming is baseless. A small group of scientists planning for the worst case somehow means that 98% of climate scientists are wrong. CrakrJak loves his misleading facts that prop up his fantasies. Problem is that his actions are very dangerous.

I do not see anything scary in that passage.

@Gerry 1of 1 - If you are an orthodox Jew then you should absolutley follow that scripture.

For Christians, we have a `new testament`. We Gentiles (any non Jew) follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. We are not held to the `old` authority before jesus came to save us. We are allowed to keep our ways (eating shellfish, shaving, etc) because our belief that Jesus was the son of God, that he lived a perfect sinless life, died a perfect sacrifice who took our sin, past present and future, on himself so we could become perfect in the sight of a loving righteous God and then rose 3 days later to prove His deity.

BigDaddyJeff - not that old saw about "Jesus changed things". But you`re still cherry picking.

Jesus came so you get to eat lobster and shrimp even though they are called an abomination in the book of Leviticus...right after homosexuality which for some reason, christians say IS still valid.

You believe or you don`t. But you can`t pick and choose what part of "Gods Word" he really meant to say.

Skirjames-It`s not that I don`t believe in dark matter or energy, it`s just that it sounds crazy. It`s a theory that came out after observing that the expansion of the universe isn`t slowing, but actually speeding up. To me, it seems that nobody wants to revise the big bang theory now that there is some evidence to refute it. I believe in the big bang theory, but when the next big theory comes out, I think that science needs to be open to it.

You just proved how monumentally ignorant people are.
Science is a self-proving, self-correcting aspect of the
mind, science is "wrong" when a new theory or law becomes
even better at explaining an event, which happens faster
and faster as technology helps us

We though the atom was the minimum possible "thing" to exist,
but when technology was better we could "see" that it is made
out of other things (Protons, neutrons, electrons)... Is not
that science was "wrong", it just Evolved and was able to have
    a better knowledge

    For Gerry and almightybob

There are several versus in the new testament that speak out against homosexuality. The first that comes to mind is Rom. 1:26-27

but this simply means that homosexuality is a sin like my lusting for women that are not my wife is a sin. It does not mean that you can not be saved. I sin every day. I also confess these sins to God and ask for His forgiveness.
I hope that eventually I will come to give up these sins but if I do not I am still saved because I confess Jesus as my Lord and Savior and believe that He was the son of God and He died for my sins.

I do not condemn a sinner no matter what his sins are. The thief on the cross next to Jesus was told by Jesus that He would see him that very day in paradise.

The murder that truly repents and accepts Christ will be in heaven with Jesus at the end.

    There are huge differences.

We can detect dark matter. So you`re just plain wrong about that. The odd thing about it is that it doesn`t interact with the electromagnetic force (hence "dark"), but it does interact with gravity and is detected in that way.

Dark energy is outside my knowledge, but I`m fairly confident that there`s more evidence for it than someone saying so because their ignorance led them to ludicrously misinterpret a tiny subset of the ancestors of one small group of people, written in the early bronze age after an unknown amount of oral repetition.

So no, it`s not at all similar.

There are several versus in the new testament that speak out against homosexuality.

Is it time for me to repeat my explanation of why this statement is wrong? Again. I should just save it as a text file so I can copy and paste it over and over again.

There is one, just one, verse in the NT that can be validly interpreted as speaking against homosexuality. Incidentally, it`s also the only one in either testament that mentions homosexuality between women. Since it is talking about people who would not normally have homosexual sex having homosexual sex in religious rites, it`s also a valid interpretation to consider it irrelevant nowadays.

The other two NT verses are relying on a far-fetched interpretation of `malakoi` and a completely unsubstantiated interpretation of `arsenokoitai`.

They`re all from Paul and even the bible itself warns about the difficulty of interpreting Paul`s writings.

Isn`t there also a problem with the way these "literalists" so to speak are misinterpreting the word "abomination"?

Yes, because that word isn`t there at all. It`s a mistranslation as well as a misinterpretation. The word that is there is "to`ebah", which refers to uncleanliness in a religious sense. There isn`t a word in English with the same meaning and Christians don`t really do the whole ritual purification thing any more.

There are various degrees of ritual uncleanliness, which further complicates the translation.

There`s evidence that at least some of the earliest translators into English realised that this was a problem and made notes about it.

They were ignored, of course. Why care about the truth when you can just put in whatever best suits your agenda and claim ultimate authority for it?

From the (HCSB) New Testament Romans Chap1 verses 24-31. some cut for space...
24 Therefore God delivered them over in the cravings of their hearts to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served something created instead of the Creator, who is praised forever.Amen.From Idolatry to Depravity 26 This is why God delivered them over to degrading passions. For even their females exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 The males in the same way also left natural relations with females and were inflamed in their lust for one another. Males committed shameless acts with males and received in their own persons the appropriate penalty of their error. 32 Although they know full well God’s just sentence —that those who practice such things deserve to die —they not only do them, but even applaud ot

Having worked in a commercial printery attached to a Christian school for over 20 years, I can fairly confidently state that this appears TO ME* to be one of the PACE (Packets of Accelerated Christian Education) books used in the ACE system (from the font, design, etc), which our school used as well even though it is an American curriculum.

I hated them from the very beginning. The example shown here is not exceptional, it is about the norm for the whole curriculum.

How do you teach kids to count? Like this:
"one plus one equals two, God loves you, one plus two equals three, God loves you and me"... etc

The entire program is crap which turns out idiots who aren`t up to Grade 6 standard by the time they leave College level.

(*For legal reasons, I`m not stating it definitely)

I`m so tired of anti-gay people. Not even angry tired. Just exhausted tired. You have your opinions. Other people have theirs. This won`t change. You really think I`ll stop being gay cause of a comment thread online? Because I don`t think you`ll stop being anti-gay.

I`m tired. Is no one else tired? So. Tired.

Yeah, sure it does. I`d never ever read those verses and I was just making it all up as I went along.

No, wait, that`s not right. I`ve read several different English translations and a couple of analyses of the original Greek. Because I like to know what I`m talking about rather than just accepting what someone tells me is the traditional interpretation.

Have religious discussions on I-A-B ever changed anyone`s mind one way or the other?
I would say yes. I find that I`m a more staunch atheist after many years of religious discussions on I-A-B.

    @Kiwigirl2:

ONLY if it is written down. If you see it, then it isn`t true. But as long as you have read it from a very specific book which has been translated and copied many, many, many times over, then it is true.

Yeah, you got me. Scientists are totally BSing people and getting all their results from bad translations and misinterpretations of an early bronze age book. All those experiments and things are just fakes, even the ones you can do yourself. Don`t ask how that works, it`s all part of the conspiracy.

    Short version: You`re talking bollocks.

drat the Bible, drat all religions. Science is the only way that our civilization will progress. When we still got people MURDERING each other over a stupid belief system (ones that include an invisible man in the sky), nothing will get accomplished.

I went to private catholic school for 12 years and never saw anything like this. We learned actual scientific facts from well educated teachers. Yes they threw in a few "do unto others" sayings while we learned, but I was more than adequately prepared for college.

I was in my teens when they brought home the first moon rocks. I remember vividly the scientists telling interviewers that the rocks were dated at just about 4 billion years old. Creationism is a pseudoscience.
