Submitted by: fancylad 5 years ago in Sports

Nike just signed convicted dog fighting breeder, Michael Vick, to a juicy endorsement deal. Too soon, dog-loving I-A-B?

"Get over yourselves and see the world for how it is through your glass houses"

Makes perfect sense to me, GhettoNinja. Most people understand it. It`s unfortunate you`re unable to comprehend the meaning.

But I suppose in your perfect world, as innocent and pure as you are, this statement doesn`t apply to you. Continue to cast stones, your highness.

P.S. I hope sarcasm exists in your sheltered world, so you can now feel owned.

I believe the bigger concerns is Nike`s use of sweatshop labor and all that. I don`t really expect them to be using any moral judgement.

For the love of God really? He fought dogs, he killed dogs. Yes that`s drated up. He went to prison, did his time, and as far as I can tell, he`s actually learned something. I don`t see why people think that killing dogs is worthy of a life sentence without parole or even the death penalty.

I would love to see him tackeled right at his kneecaps so his legs fold over the wrong way. If I played in the NFL I`d be gunning to end his career.

@Steelgrid
I know Vick and other athletes should not be role models. But regardless of whether or not they want to be admired by children they will be.

@madest
I thought he got caught, which is different than confessing because he knew it was wrong. I`m fairly sure they only thing he is sorry about is getting caught.

You know for me personally if I were convicted of such a horrible crime I would change my name and move away. I wouldn`t be able to face my friends family or coworkers.

to the people saying you wont buy nike now. You are liars. you are just saying it, but when push comes to shove, you will continue to buy the same brands you always do.

stop pretending this actually impacts your life at all. right after you were done posting your "i hate vick" rant, you went on to the next subject and forgot all about this. Just like I am about to do.

Michael Vick hasn`t killed a millions of humans (that we know of) so another Hitler comparison fail. However I won`t buy Nike now that I know they`re sponsoring a dog killer. Redemption is one thing. The man fessed up and did his time. But this sponsorship is just wrong. Michael Vick killed 13 dogs by his own admission. He didn`t pick a quick, painless method of killing, but instead chose a variety of means that qualify as torture. Pit Bulls are powerful dogs. Imagine how hard you would have to work to kill a Pit Bull by forcibly drowning him. He got his second chance, none of his dogs did.

"Get over yourselves and see the world for how it is through your glass houses"

lmfao what does that even mean?

M.Vick can redeem himself by gunning down casey anthony. Then maybe folks will forgive him his past transgressions.

>>Dog fighting is going on all over the world, even in the U.S. as we speak.<<

What is your point? Murders go on all over the world, robberies and rapes also. Should we not prosecute when we find them? What do people caught running dog fighting rings have to do with child molesters in my neighborhood?

When criminals are caught, they are charged and if found guilty sentenced. The people who ran dog fighting in Chicago back in `09 were charged and sentenced. There was a public outcry, just like with Vick. It was a local outcry, but the players were not national celebrities. National celebrity = national attention.

>>>Anyone, and I do mean ANYONE who thinks these sports jocks are supposed to be Role models for your children need to be drating shot<<<<

What an odd statement. Of course they are role models. They are role models whether or not we want them to be, kids will still look up to them. Young people will emulate them. They will be cheered by the fans and their jerseys will be purchased and worn. They are picked to endorse products because their endorsement and opinions matter.

It would be nice to live in a world where kids didn`t use sports figures as role models, but we are not there yet.

lol you people are so stupid....

Dog fighting is going on all over the world, even in the U.S. as we speak. Vick is the fall guy. There are NFL players who killed innocent people and got away with it... there are child molesters living in YOUR neighborhood. Get over yourselves and see the world for how it is through your glass houses.

Even famous people make mistakes. I don`t see why this is such a big deal. He apologized and did his jail time. This goes on all around the country but you don`t see everyone making an uproar about it.

Nike is a freaking piece of sh*t company who uses sweatshop workers from Vietnam to work 70 to 80 hour weeks with no breaks for a dime an hour wage. Then sells the f*cking shoes at outlandish profits.

The two are befitting of each other.

Meh. Vick f*cked up, he paid his dues, let`s move on. In my home airport of Belfast in Ireland, they shut down the `port a while back because it was over-run with bunnies. Seriously, they shut down a f*cking airport, because of hippie protestors.

I`d like to see them pull the same schtick if if was over-run with rats, another rodent.

Interesting that people who enjoy American Football (myself included) will go f*cking tribal over people doing their best to maim other people and end their career through a knee-shattering injury, while going all docile over animals being hurt.

Dude f*cked up, paid his dues, move on. Assh*le, yes. Hitler? He has a ways to go yet.

Apparently you didn`t see the details. Do some research as to what they found around his house, and what he was doing with these dogs. The piece of poo is a disgrace to the sport.

"Vick is a hell of an athlete, he turned The Eagles around so quick. I wish Cleveland would have picked him up when he was available to be honest. Oh yeah and some dogs died"

Who the hell cares? Seriously who the drat cares. hee is a money sucking ball catcher (thrower) that people seem to think their kids should be just like (the whole role model thing). its disgusting. this jackass gets paid millions while the Men/Women/ and otherwise (Yes they are out there) that defend our country get paid jack poo to DIE!!!!

Seriously your whole statement about the athlete part goes right out of the window here. Are you seriously trying to insinuate that because he is an athhelete that you agree with this "Hollywood" court process? Que: OJ Simpson

"Unfortunately he has been able to find employment in a profession where he will be a role model for children."

Anyone, and I do mean ANYONE who thinks these sports jocks are supposed to be Role models for your children need to be drating shot. Seriously do we still live in an age where people are so blissfully ignorant of what these jocks daily lives really consist of? Cmon now.

Also, to those saying "They were dogs, so what"....I bet the pain they went through was awesome. I bet watching their fellow dogs die did wonders for their personallity. Because we all know that animals feel no pain, have no feelings, and will carry on with their day like nothing happened when their friends are murdered....

Heartless drats....

@x13purplesta

I guess what I meant to say is he was given the punishment the courts decided fit the crimes. There is nothing I can do about that.

Unfortunately he has been able to find employment in a profession where he will be a role model for children. Being caught and punished does not erase a despicable crime. I feel that the companies endorsing him and the fans buying tickets to see him play are saying it`s ok to kill animals for fun.

Michael Vick pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Travel in Interstate Commerce in Aid of Unlawful Activities and to Sponsor a Dog in an Animal Fighting Venture.

He did not serve a single day in prison for his hands-on role the actual killing of 8 of the animals.

In my opinion, he has not fully paid for his crimes.

God help him should I ever get within arm`s reach of him.

@ Enjin, he served SOME time but not for all the actual crimes he committed. He was charged with some BS lesser crime and only one count.

But I don`t get the Hitler thing, either.

Grr... I was under 1000 characters

-Still a Monster? Yes.
If we could lower our testosterone levels for a moment here and see past the f/ucking sports, and realize that under the spot-light he becomes a role-model for not only the youth; but the drating morons that think. "Oh well if Michale Vick does it..." And yes their are people that stupid. That man deserves nothing more then to be locked into a Contraption to hold him still while he is raped. (Look at the videos and photos and you`ll understand)

I still want to see him beaten, tied up, and thrown into a pen full of attack dogs that haven`t eaten in 3 days. But that`s just me. Oh and I will root against any team that signs him, even if my favorite team was stupid enough to do it.

Are we kidding here? Obviously you morons that are supporting this bastard have never seen the pictures and videos taken within his dog fighting compound; they are horrific. That man should be in jail, none the less get signed on to another contract! What was done at the "arena" wasn`t just dog fighting, it was pure undeniable animal cruelty.
"we dont complain about fight clubs for people so why the drat do we care so much about dogs..."
Because People choose to be in fight clubs they aren`t forced into it, and they aren`t made to fight to the death. If he treated humans the way he treated those dogs, he would be in prison for life.
"there is no doubt in my mind that if Michael Vick could take it back, he would."
this part was drating hilarious to me. If he felt he was doing wrong. HE SHOULDN`T HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE; and there isn`t a doubt in MY mind that if he was never caught it would still be going on. Worse then Hitler? No. St

I hate the way this website makes these asinine post titles to try and insight people.

"Is Michale Vick STILL worse than Hitler?" Why use the word STILL? Obviously no one other than a nazi thinks he is worse than Hitler. Why insult us by implying that all people who visit this site are racists?

"Is Nike wrong?" Seriously? When has Nike ever been right?

As for Vick he served his time. And the people who pay his salary obviously hate animals. Simple as that.

The intrinsic value of humans versus dogs, the crimes aren`t even close to being comparable.

Besides... he is only an ATHLETE!! Anyone who looks up to athletes as role-models for the sole reason that they can play will a ball well is daft.

I`d like to preface this by saying that I at least partly agree with the sentiment that he did the crime, served his time, and it`s behind him. People change. Regardless, I do have reservations about his character. Ok, response time.

@AntPharm: This is a flippant way of dismissing his crime, and it rubs me the wrong way. Who gives two poos if he is a talented athlete--that says nothing about someone`s character, and his character is indeed soiled.

Vick vs Hitler reference aside, I don`t care about sports so Nike isn`t marketing toward me. But as a dog-person they certainly wouldn`t win my money with this move. Vick has served his time, but I doubt I`ll ever look at him as a respectable person.
