If the freedom of religion, guaranteed to us by law in theory, can ever rise in practice under the overbearing inquisition of public opinion, then and only then will truth, prevail over fanaticism

If you are not capable to grasp the fact that you have complete control of your own destiny you do not deserve the freedom that you gain from not believing in religion.
Feminism is simply the belief that men and women are equal
Since that is one of the most obvious political lies of recorded history, you are wrong. Any conclusions or arguments you make stemming from that lie are wrong.

The thing that really annoys be about feminism isn`t that it`s sexist, though feminism is sexist and it annoys me a lot for that reason.

It isn`t that it`s hypocritical, although feminism is hypocritical apart from the extremists who are honest about their sexism and it annoys me a lot for that reason.

What really annoys me about feminism is the damage it has done and continues to do to sexual equality by infiltrating and corrupting it, turning it into a mockery of itself.

I get that you are opposed to sexual equality.

I get that attacking it with lies and corruption is far more effective for you than honestly opposing it.

I get it. I don`t like it.

Sorry @Coffeekoneko but i have to disagree. Actually women don`t want to be equal with men, they just want to say they are, then when something unpleasant comes up (MOWING THE LAWN) they have a man do it.

Really what women want is equal pay which I have to disagree with. Your pay should be based on merit. Whoever does a better job, man or woman, should be paid more, and whoever does a worse job, man or woman, should be paid less.

Oh certainly, not all women are feminists. Women like Michele Bachmann, who believe that it is a woman`s duty to obey their fathers and then their husbands are not feminists. They are also anti-women. Feminism is simply the belief that men and women are equal, so if you have a problem with feminism then you have a problem with that principle and with women.

One of my favorite quotations on feminism that I think summarizes it nicely is, "Feminism is the radical notion that women are people."

do people think that ending religion would end war and hate. if there were no religion we would war over the colour of skin. if we were all the same colour skin we would war over the colour of our eyes. if we all had the same eye colour we would war over hair colour. if we all had the same hair colour we would war over what side it was parted at. its what we do

We need to stop putting labels on our beliefs and lack of belief in some cases because all religion does as well as lack of religion is create differences among us that are just not necessary. These differences cause child like disagreements and start pointless arguments, it`s like when you found out santa (or whatever other figure your belief depicts) wasn`t real from one of your friends in the 3rd grade, it all made sense and life kept going on as normal. Religion needs to go as well as all the labels it in stows including atheism. There are bigger more relevant issues in this world right now then religion.

Meh, same can be said of any group, it just sounds better when using it on religion.

"If you could reason with evolutionists, there would be no evolutionists."
From my personal experience my statement is true, they are harder to talk to than any religious person I`ve ever met.

"Wait now. Let`s not give this guy credit for the quote. It was the script writer who came up with it."

Really? I thought that the fictional character came up with it all by himself.

Yeah. Oprah became a billionaire taking credit for a team of writers writing the stupidest dialogue on TV. Genius, really.

Cajun: Why are you bringing up the faults of MLK Jr. to a discussion of the fictional character of `House` ?

Are you really going to compare the two that way ?

Despite his womanizing MLK Jr. was a hell of a lot better man, in real life, than the fictional character of `House` in more ways than I can count.

No real life person is perfect, and any doctor that would attempt to imitate `House` would have their medical license revoked, been sued for malpractice and be locked away in prison.
Victim: "I might as well be a feminist."

What the hell is that supposed to mean? You got a problem with women?
"feminist" and "women" don`t mean the same thing, any more than, for example, "whitist" and "white people" mean the same thing.

If you`re not a bigot, don`t label yourself as one. If you chose to label yourself as a bigot, expect people to think you are one.

Your choice.

...You know what? Forget it. Just... just forget it.

A belief in God is just that, a belief. Its just the opposite of atheism which is absence of belief in a higher power. I suppose this is aimed more at Creationists (while religious, I am not one), or Muslims who`s fanatical action is often intrusive, or deadly. Its a fictitious character, ergo its stupid to even feel offended or empowered by such a statement.

"But LuckyDave, it was written by a real person!"
Yeah, writers put down to paper many things they themselves don`t believe to fit a character. I don`t just play hockey you know.

Dr. House is strongly anti-religion, its just part of his character, and such a belief justifies his ability to treat everyone like they are idiots and not feel bad about it, while at the same time saving lives. He`s like a living Yin Yang. House is pretty cool, but to quote a TV character and feel badass because he agrees with you is just silly.

I`m with Patch` on this one. religion=superstition and we`d all be better off without it. And I do have to admit I feel somewhat superior for having the blinders of religion removed (enlightened as it were).

And further, this kind of `attack` if it is one at all, you religious readers need to remember is directed at the `bad apples` of your group. So unless you`re one of the "god hates f@gs, death to islam, convert the world by force" bad apples, you have nothing to complain about.

For the record I take the position that I`m fine with people having religious beliefs, to the limit of when they start trying to make others believe it, or take away other peoples` rights to satisfy their religious laws. Keep it in your house and church and nobody will beef with you.

You have to admit, if you can be reasoned with, that the little `war` between religious and non-religious is entirely spurred on by the religious extremists that keep pushing the line. Nobody could imagine a world where atheists protest outside a random church that really and truly minds it`s own business.. If you can`t accept that, see the house quote above.

Wow so many people thinking this is an attack? This is nothing but stating a clever fact. The problem with religious zealots seeing this as the same as their attacks are failing to realize the following:

When religious people are trying to force their thoughts on others, it`s based on a fantasy fairy tale.

When someone says something like this house quote, it`s based on FACT. In this case the fact that you can`t reason with someone that believes in stanta claus, or his grown up variation: `god`.

Be insulted all you want, when the arguments come from BS. But when you act insulted by cold hard facts, you only prove the point being made by this quote. "We can`t use reason to reason with you, because you can`t handle the truth"

you know when you rant about crap and then it turns into paragraphs and paraghraphs of pure boring letters of mass confusion, and then you run out of something to say, so you decide to argue another point and then what happens is the people reading it all just get bored and lose interest then look for a one liner like this one:

lol, i agree

Why do most atheists think they`re above those who believe in religion? They think they`re so intelligent and edgy because they can come up with an explanation as to why religion is fake. Like, why try to debunk religion when it`s based on faith. I mean, if it was proven that God and the bible is real and everything you`ve ever heard about it is true, (most) people would jump on the bandwagon regardless just to secure a ticket into heaven. We wouldn`t get to see the real person in everyone. That`s pretty much how I look at it.

Many people take it way too far though.

I have a friend who is always saying how he hates right wing religious nut jobs like me who push their religion on others. It really is funny how you do the very thing you always b1tch about right in your title.

I like how because I don`t agree with this statement that means I`m somehow an ignorant religious redneck.

I`m an atheist too, I just have the audacity to think that people shouldn`t put down others beliefs. Let`s have respect for those who think different than us.

So no, it`s you who gives atheists a bad name. Mind your own business and let people believe what they want.

Patchouly,
You know how you hate how religious people assert their beliefs and attempt to stomp out any opposing ideas?

Do you realize that religious people will hate you doing that as well, and you won`t really gain any ground acting the way you do? It`s hypocrisy.

"Ugh, I hate how religious people, force their beliefs down my throat. I`LL SHOW THEM BY INSULTING THEM AND SHOVING MINE RIGHT BACK DOWN THEIR THROATS!"

You`re dead wrong. I was a Catholic for years. I was brainwashed and told that if I questioned religion, I would burn in Hell forever. If I had known there were other out there, like me, it would have made my younger years a whole lot easier.

Here, in North America, religion rules. Atheists have their say, but most of us are afraid to speak up. I`m saying that it`s time we do.

No, you sir are the type of atheist that makes the rest of us look bad. You are they type of Atheist that lets religion walk all over your society. You sir, need to shut up please.

You probably shouldn`t take this CHARACTER as a model.

House needs to be stoned on Vicodin to work and live and is a very unethical person with few morals.

He breaks the law and doesn`t care about the morality of what he does, a clear indication of a small conscience.

He might be a `miracle` doctor, but he`s no one to take life advice from.

As soon as you guys stop stuffing religion down our throats at every opportunity. Stop trying to teach our children your silly fairy stories. Stop trying to convert everyone through brainwashing and constant saturation. Sorry asiina, the sooner we can rid this planet of the mindless plague that is religion, the better off we`ll be. More Atheists need to stand up and be heard. Let others know we are out there and support putting an end to floating sky wizards and zombie heroes.
