Saying the heat wave is evidence for global warming is like saying winter blizzards is evidence against it. Not to deny global warming, I believe it`s true, but it`s not evidence.

I`ve been across the Great Salt Lake when it was 104. It was 92 in NE Nevada at the time, where I was working, and that was at about 7,000 feet. 88 and 86 respectively sounds rather cool in that area. So there are parts that are unusually hot, but also parts that are less hot than usual.

Global warming? It is a really chilly, grey and wet July here in the UK. It`s rained every day for a week until today, and it`s still cloudy and cool. It can`t be global warming if some of the globe is cooler!

heat indices are taken in the shade and in grassy areas. factor in sidewalks and direct sunlight and these can go up by about 15-20 degrees.

The reason the Unites States and Mid-Eastern Canada got hit so bad is because of a massive pocket of high pressure air sitting over top of North America, combined with a strong Southern wind from the Golf of Mexico making it extremely humid. Any cold weather heading towards the lens was then redirected around cause a lot of rain and chaotic weather in the western Canada.

I hope that if this continues it forces people to realise that a global spike in temperature is a very real thing, and that our governments should be taking stronger steps to ensure the safety of our children.

WE HAD 4 TORNADOES IN ALBERTA THIS SUMMER! FOUR! Lucky hail did more damage than the tornadoes but the point is it`s rare to get ONE in a year up here.

Thanks @MikeyNiv! I`m glad someone on IAB has a brain!
Ooo, it`s hot in the summertime! Must be global warming!
Um, it`s not Global, it`s North America.
It`s not a trend, I submitted a report that showed California is actually COOLING OFF over the past 30 years.
And finally, AGW = Poo! Lies and more lies does not make good science!

Furthermore: When this heat breaks a record set in 1904 (for example) that means it was just as hot 100+ years ago. Was THAT caused by AGW too?

Winnipeg tied a record high the other day: 38.6C (iirc) which was set in 1934. You know, the Great Global Warming Period of the 1930`s, eh? Pfft!

You say this in the same post where you compliment someone for have a brain because they know the difference between weather and climate. Climate change means that some places heat up, others cool off. Some places get more rain, other places get less. But the average temperature is going up. Climate deniers in the 80`s could be taken seriously, but in 2011 they are just corporate pawns that threaten the planet with misinformation.

Lay people need to leave the analysis of climate change to scientists who actually have the ability to analyze statistics and trends so that naturally occurring variances can be accounted for. Climate change deniers always use point-in-time instances to prove their point, which is totally invalid. People who say climate change is a myth are people who don`t want to change anything they do for the greater good. Self-absorbed people who only care about their own immediate needs. Everything we are being asked to do by environmentalists is good for the future of our planet whether climate change is true or not so why not just do it anyway? There`s really no excuse not to stop wasting so much and polluting so much so the future is better for the next generations.

I`m in Portland, OR. While the rest of you are sweating, we`re complaining about the summer not really taking effect yet. Not sure if that`s a good thing or not.

I noticed a pattern here... Anyone else notice that the more intense heat is felt precisely where the New Madrid fault line is? Here`s a quick overlay I did:

I wonder if there`s any correlation between high heat and seismic activity. I`m not suggesting there is, but if anyone knows anything about this kind of stuff it`d be cool to expand on it. Just a thought!

"We had an 18 degree C day down here last week. Which is weird as this is smack bang in the middle of winter."

    >Uses celsius as a measurement of weather
    >Is in winter right now
    >Has to pay exorbitant amounts of money for video games
    >Probably has an 8-foot-wide spider nesting in his closet

Your country is so weird to me.

@Fernando I doubt it, but I`m not sure if it`s the rational me talking or the wishful/ me talking. My girlfriend lives right in there, and I live just a bit outside it! (Not that it matters much, if some kind of caldera erupts most of the world is pretty well boned, never mind just the U.S.)

Funny how the weather stops north of the 49th.
Yup, nothing exists North of North Dakota, eh @godthaab?

Last Winter we had Global Freezing too!
And THAT @OutWest, is further PROOF of AGW!

@NottaSpy You be trollin! (as usual) 1 WEEK is `weather`, 30 YEARS is a `trend`. Overall, the Earth`s temperature has NOT risen, period, when averaged out over longer times than a single `blip` year.

The weather is only relevant to global warming when it`s cold and that "proves" global warming is a SOCIALIST CONSPIRACY!!!!

Please note that the top of the picture says, "HEAT INDEX" people. Also note that the temperature in the south and the plains states are lower than they are in the midwest to northeast. This is not global warming, but a weather pattern.
