Design the Next I-Am-Bored T-Shirt

Hey I-A-B,

Fire up the Photoshop--ShirtCrave.com has teamed up with I-A-B, and to kick things off, I"m letting you design I-A-B"s next t-shirt. Things don"t start until Monday (July 11), but consider this an early tipoff so you can get a head start. Rules and guidelines will be presented on Monday, but it would behoove all would-be designers to remember that less is more...

Until Monday, Fancylad

Starting Monday, Fancy will be tallying your designs and you"ll vote on the best. Let the Photoshopping begin!

With the <img></img>, how do you get around the 40 character limit? Because I`ve tried it and it gives me errors.
n to other things: The "EDIT" button that so many have asked for. We don`t have one for a real reason: Imagine how gnarly debates on here would get if one could posthumously edit their comments. "No, I didn`t say that!", "What`s that? I never used the word n*gger! My post clearly used the term African American!", or even "I did NOT claim that blah blah blah percent of blah blah blah. See my previous post!"
This can be solved easily with an option some websites have that generates an automatic message in the post, showing that the post was edited in some date and time. But then again must be kind of difficult to add an option like that in this simpler comment section

On image sizes, you didn`t hear this from me (says the guy who advocates leaving posts uneditable, for all eternity), but all you have to do is this. Don`t use the image button submission, just make a comment and substitute square brackets for arrows as follows:

<img>insertphotolink</img>

You can post any old image link from the intertubes in there.

Note to all users who didn`t know that before now. I have a pointy stick, and I`m not afraid to use it. Consider yourself warned. Please keep it civil.

Hear ya Batmanners. With any improvements to this site, I know it sounds like I`m sticking my dick up Fancylad, but genuinely, his hands are tied. I-A-B is controlled now by Demand Media, and they`re a shower of c*nts like you wouldn`t believe. Believe me, he`s tried.

Us Mods were the very first ones to complain about that f*cking Meebo bar, Fancy went to the top brass management to get it removed (believe it or or not, this site isn`t run out of someone`s Mom`s basement, it`s a business), and his request was denied.

But as Batmanners points out, just use Firefox. It`s a free download from Mozilla, and then install the freeware "Adblock". I literally have no idea what Meebo is, never seen it. Do yourselves a favour, use Firefox with Adblock, and you`ll never see another ad again. If there`s a more beautiful way of sticking it to the man, I can`t think of it.

"We don`t have one [edit button] for a real reason: Imagine how gnarly debates on here would get if one could posthumously edit their comments"

What you really need is a preview that shows what your post will look like with images etc. and the ability to then Edit or Cancel it before it is actually posted. This would solve a lot of the problems people need an edit button for.

Davy`s edit tip: I do that everytime I find a typo in one of my posts or if I come up with a better way of saying something (e.g. if I decide against using "African American" and opt to go with "Person").

WRT Meebo. I don`t see it. Never have. AdBlock blocks it completely, so there is always an easy way around it.

And WRT functions the site could add : Seniority/Levels. A person who has been here longer could post longer than 1K characters. After a certain amount of posts, with no infractions shows a level of maturity and that member can probably be trusted with 1,500 or 2,000 characters.

And image sizes... don`t get me started, don`t even get me started.

Having said all that, there is a work-around. Every user has a "Delete Post" button under their name, on the left. If you`ve made a typo, or written something that you want to change, just copy-pasta, fix whatever it was, post it properly this time, and delete the old one. Of course the new one will be time-stamped, but that`s not necessarily a bad thing, surely?

On to other things: The "EDIT" button that so many have asked for.

Posts stand on their own merit, in time-order, and are not editable. Just as most (non-blog) websites do it. You can delete your post and make a new one, but you can`t edit something you wrote previously in hindsight. Think of it like a newspaper or journal - once it`s printed, you said what you said. Case in point, if we had such a function, I could edit my previous dickery with T-Marley to make me look like less of an assh*le. But I was an assh*le, fair and square, let the record stand.

@Moosh,

Nah, T-Marley`s not bitter. In fact he was very gracious in an email exchange we just had, even though I was kinda a dick to him earlier on in this thread: What I wrote basically boils down to "Don`t like IAB, then f*ck off elsewhere". Hey, I`m only human, I can be an arsehole just like anyone else, and I regret it now.

Suffice to say that T-Marley has moved on to different things. I hasten to add that he`s NOT banned, he`s just had his account deleted, by his own request, which removes all details from our records, including registered email address etc.

I like Patchouly`s shirt.

While IAB would only be able to sell this in 20 or so countries, I also like T-Marley`s "This shirt almost came in Medium, but this is why you`re fat!" even though he is apparently a bitter, bitter man. I do have to say that I would kiss (maybe with tongue?) the person who adds an edit button to the replies, though.

Dude, you really want me delete your account? You can just not visit anymore if you like, there`s no real need to close it. In fact we`ve only ever done that a couple of times before (again it was by request).

If you really DO want your account shut down, lemme know. I just sent you an email.

Nice avie pic BTW...

Lol, upon investigating how to delete my account, I see it ranks right up with there with the overall user friendliness of the web site (i.e. it is a non-existent function), so you think you can take care of that for me?

Well that`s cool. As I stated earlier, they were mostly (about 60%) tongue in cheek. (I have been very vocal towards people complaining about reposts or `stolen` content, for example) Funny how flaming is a great entertainment and relief from boredom until it is directed towards the site. Promote hate towards each other, but make sure you protect the `integrity` of the web site.

Falling on deaf ears, and wasting my time. It was a good long run `friends`. Enjoy permeating your lives with negativity.

T-Marley, all we`re trying to achieve here is relief from boredom. Personally, I find the site entertaining. Your suggested t-shirt slogans were:

---------

"I-A-B The Flaming Bridge of the Atlantic"

"This shirt almost came in Medium, but this is why you`re fat!"

"I-A-B, connect via Meebo"

"I-A-B, where any link above 100 posts is about religion or politics!"

"Old? Young? American? European? I-A-B, connecting hate around the world!"

"Repost. (Insert complaint about repost here)"

"I-A-B, you didn`t see it here first"

"Users sharing content, owners sharing profits."

-------------

Dude, if you`ve become jaded and don`t enjoy the site anymore, what can I say? It`s a big wide internet out there.

I`m also glad to know how demonized someone becomes for trying to promote a message of tolerance, friendliness, and respect for one another.

I suppose I shouldn`t have been surprised that so much disdain could emerge from a sarcastic post with shirt slogans. But I guess it`s what you all want, right?

And if what this site is trying to accomplished can be explained just by looking at the comments section, why not make it a more functional comment system? Instead of not being able to pause videos because "Drag to Share" why not lose the character limit and filter altogether? Or add a god damned edit button?

Et tu Davy? And here I always thought we had a decent amount of respect for each other.

Lazy I`m no "incompetent fool" I understand that inflammatory posts and topics drive more comments which in turn drive more page views, which in turn lines the pockets of the owners of the site.

However as a business owner, I`ve always believed that providing a beneficial service to your customers (in this case, fixing things that have been griped about for years) is more important than making more money, because a happy customer base wants your business to succeed, and does what it takes to make that happen. (in this case, not running ad block on the site, clicking on ads for the clickthroughs...)

I`m glad to know that "what you`re trying to accomplish here" is to widen and antagonize the rift between Europe and America, religious and non religious, Left and Right. As if those rifts need any help from I-Am-Bored.

I usually try to keep out of Flame Wars, but I know why controversial issues and obviously biased links get posted here, the comments section is all the explanation I need to provide.

Lazy, I don`t know if you took what I had written out of context or not (don`t think so), but it didn`t let me hyphenate it. "Mr-Ive-been-here-2-months -but-I-feel-the-right-to -criticize-everything".

Yes, free speech is great, and anonymity is even greater, but then where`s the fun in calling and treating douchey newcomers like what they really are; noobs.

Lazy, would you consider it rude of me if I asked for a high-five? You seem to understand what we`re trying to achieve here. Which, let`s face it, isn`t much. Relief of boredom being paramount. Is there a nobler cause in 2011?

No it isn`t you incompetent fool. Have you not considered that `flame wars` as you see them could be entertaining to some people... no, entertaining to MANY people?

For all your time here you`ve yet to figure that out.

Although I do love IAB, I`m gonna have to agree with T-Marley`s ending statement in his newest post. IAB could use some updating in keeping it`s patrons happy rather then stamping new advertisements every ten seconds. But IAB fixes these things through contacting them, not being an A-hole and criticizing them.

Batman, before you get on your high horse maybe look at the people you are criticizing. I was a member of this site three years before you registered, and surfed incognito at least a year before that. Very few people have more time on this site than me, even if they have more submitted content or posts (Because I only post when I have something to say). If I feel it has gone in a direction the belies its origins, I have every right to state my opinion.

Most (not all) of my digs were tongue-in-cheek in the first place, illustrating popular complaints that find their way to posts.

It *is* pathetic that we come here to cure boredom and find flame wars between Europeans and Americans (allies), about weight, religion, or politics. Aren`t we all here for the same reason in the first place? And the fact that we can add more share buttons (meebo) to monetize, but not fix character limits or a Third Reich filter (customer happiness) is just as pathetic.

And one last thing, you guys bitch and complain way too much about IAB. If you think the content sucks, is full of reposts and the only high rated posts are religion or politics.... then why do you even bother coming here? Go to reddit, I hear we "steal" all our content from there.

(funnehkitteh has not added any links)

You can STFU about reposts if you`re not going to make an effort to provide me with entertainment Mr I`ve been here 2 months but I feel the right to criticize everything.
