    Link: Baseball Umpire Makes Bad Call To End Game - Pittsburgh Pirates and Atlanta Braves were 19 innings into a game until the ump made an obviously bad call to go home.

    I really don`t care whether the catcher tagged or not, if the throw beats the runner, you HAVE to call it an out

    Any follow up? Did the umpire get fined, demoted to the minors, or lose postseason eligibility? That is the sort of thing that should get an umpire demoted.

    Bad call in terms of fairness to the game, but it was a great call to ease the suffering of all the fans who were, (ahem), in a mental trance caused by extended viewing of the worlds most boring spectator sport.

    I know it`s probably been said to death, but the Pirates got robbed worse than any other team in sports history last night. That umpire should be fined and fired. The Braves should also be forced to forfeit that win. If the Braves had ANY sort of sportsmanship, they would have demanded the game continue, rather than rushing the field. It was a regular season game, and they celebrated a false win like they won the pennant.

    Well you can armchair in slo-mo, but it was fast. Because the tag does look light, and a fast swipe on the leg. It can be obviously missed. If the catcher had done his job, and put a solid tag tag to begin with then he would probably be out. I say blame the catcher for doing a pussy swipe tag, and not blocking the plate better. I know. I played catcher in college. He`s a pro and should have done better. Cause this blow call can happen all the time and does. Make the sure out. No argument end of discussion.

    did he touch the leg is the question? he clearly didn`t touch the arm and it looked like he pulled back too quickly to tag

    I don`t know if its a full out `blown call` as people are saying more than just a bad angle

    now the astros-cardinals blown homer call was reviewed and despite clearly hitting the padding, ruled a home-run; THAT was a blown call

    @xCYBERDYNEx:

    they have instant replay in baseball, and it doesn`t fix anything; again, Pujols homer last night (link), reviewed and clearly a double, ruled a home-run

    yes, it changed the outcome of the game, game ended 3-1 with this 2 run shot being the difference

    as far as the out, how is it any different than a infield pop-up? the catcher had the ball seconds before the runner approached him, seems the same idea, automatic out.

    then again, I do agree with whoever said it, maybe it wasn`t here, its the catchers fault for not blocking the plate correctly and putting on a solid tag, then again it had been 19 innings; lets just hope the season doesn`t come down to a game difference

    Yeah, the ump was just tired and ready to go home. He didn`t care if it was the right call. He didn`t want to stick around any longer. I hope the ump gets into some kind of trouble over this. There`s no excuse for it, it wasn`t even close.

    If you look at the play over and over, you will see that the tag is disputable...he doesn`t get his arm. It looks like he doesn`t even get his leg...I agree with the comment that says the catcher should have made a cleaner more obvious tag.

    You gotta tag harder than that buddy. I think it was an incorrect call... but not a bad one. When the play is that important you gotta make the tag strong.

    Meh, I`d say he didn`t tag him based on the shot from behind the catcher.
