number43:

Feminism is, always has been and always will be a simple biological group advocacy ideology. It has never had nothing to do with equality except to use it as a tool, like a parasite infecting a host.

Those, like yourself, who argue that men and women are different, are demanding sameness a lot more than most people are because your line of argument relies on men being the same as each other and on women being the same as each other.

...that was going to say "instead of shunning it in exchange for looking like a man."

If you don`t think men do things to look more manly then you`re really not paying attention. Do you think guys like working out just for body image? hell no. How about dancing? not many of us. shaving, cutting or styling our hair, no and no. These are things that both sexes do to attract...well not necessarily the opposite sex but whatever they`re going for.

Equality is of the highest importance. But equal is not same.

"feminism is not having to shave your legs"

I shave my face, it`s called hygiene. True feminism WAS about attaining equality. The right to vote, the right to secure employment beyond "womens work", equal treatment and pay. Well, that`s all been accomplished in this country with perhaps the exception of personal lives.

A seemingly common misconception is that "equality" is a synonym for "the same". It`s not. Women are women, men are men. Saying you don`t need to shave your legs because men don`t is stupid and an absolute affront to the women who devoted their lives to giving you the right to vote. The government isn`t forcing you to shave your legs, like the government was refusing to allow women`s rights. Smooth skin has been a feminine trait for as long as history has been recorded, just as burliness has been a male trait. True feminism should be about embracing your feminine nature and taking pride in it, instead of shunning i

@phattiger What I meant was that laws are in place to keep men from having higher wages for the same work, and the reason why men usually pay for meals is a social norm.
With actual proper feminism (or guymamism or whatever if you wanna) women wouldn`t have to shave their legs to be accepted as guys don`t have to (because both men and women have naturally hairy legs, it`s only generally women who shave) and the equivalent of having a greasy beard with food in it is not a hairy legged women because the hair on her legs wouldn`t have food in it LOL!
And actual proper feminism would mean the guy doesn`t automatically pay for things
IF THAT MAKES SENSE??
And it`s not even that I feel that strongly about it as much as I feel strongly about shallowness being always shallow no matter what the context BLUH!

feminists are the problem with chivalry. we never said you incapable of opening a door(not all women are paris hilton) its just polite. i open doors for guys too. hell its the only polite i do. im a very impolite person.

also, if a woman does more work than a man she should get paid more. my neighbors work in the SAME warehouse doing the SAME work for the SAME hours every day and have been doing so for several years now. and GUESS WHAT?!?! THEY GET PAID EXACTLY THE SAME AMOUNT!!! unless you count last years Christmas bonus cause the husband got screwed out of his by one of there other co-workers. so actually THE WOMAN MADE MORE MONEY.

that said, sexism is just as dead as chivalry. if anything its gone the same route racism has. black people(well any "minority" really. black is the just most common.) always play the race card when it works in there favor. thats why they love being black(or whatever they happen to be.) feminists do the same thing with se

"how many `hygiene items` do you buy exactly?"

Bar soap, face soap, body wash, deodorant, drat off expensive cologne, shampoo, conditioner, gel, toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, face moisturizer, shaving cream, after shave lotion, razors, baby powder, foot powder. <----- Quite a bit. I shave my face, arms, and several other areas... Not because I want to look good, but because I prefer to just not be hairy... Do I care what people think if I WERE? No. If a girl shaves her legs, its because she feels more comfortable that way. The argument of natural beauty is exactly that... I like natural beauty, which means I like seeing girls at their COMFORT ZONE... They dont need to go extra miles to impress me... They want to shave, thats fine, but i dont request it... I take care of myself and do what I do because its what makes me feel comfortable... I dont really do it for any other reason...

Actually, I wouldn`t care considering my ex has a scraggily beard and I don`t mind so that kinda makes your point invalid. If a guy wants facial hair, who am I to stop one measly person from having one? Also, shaving legs has no hygienic value to it, which is why you never hear a man dying from hairy legs on the news. It`s purely esthetic. I understand there`s a difference between wearing a dirty tshirt and a nice one, but that`s also because I don`t like to walk around in dirt.

I`m not saying I`m above everyone and that I don`t judge because, at the end of the day, everyone judges others no matter how hard you try not to. All I`m saying is guys who try to claim they want their girls to be natural most likely are lying and I`ve proved it in most cases.

I don`t get what`s so bad about paying for a woman. It shows that your a `gentlemen`. Not meant to make them feel `little`. There shouldn`t be any pointless dispute about being polite. If a woman wants to pay or go halves, then fine.

As for the pay rate, that`s different. He`s carrying more though...

Theres a difference between looking presentable and a girl making herself look like a whore. That is why guys shave their faces and dont complain, girls shave their everywhere else and dont complain and why we all get haircuts, wear nice clothes etc.
If you want to be gross and just be hairy as hell contantly then that just makes you look like a gross unhigeinic troll, it doesnt make you look like your breaking the social boudaries of your sex.
I bet you say you dont give a crap about guys looks, but if one came up to you with a raggady unshaven ass beard a foot long or gross unkempt dreadlocked hair then you`d be out of there in a shot.

I`m sorry, but the guys who are saying that they don`t care if women make themselves esthetically pleasing are lying even if just a little. I do not shave (nor do I wear makeup or spends time and money on my hair) because I don`t see the point in it and I find it a waste of resources, time, and money. On top of that it makes for interesting conversations in the winter with guys who are like, "Oh I`m all about the personality. The girl doesn`t have to try to be good looking blah blah blah." To which I respond with a simple raise of the pant leg and I usually get something along the lines of that`s disgusting. So most guys can`t say they want their women being natural when I know from experience that is false. Which also renders taylor`s counter argument to our having to buy feminine hygiene products moot, unless he approves of hairy women and I`m not saying he doesn`t.

@getlipscomb

As I said in my earlier post, guys find all the primping and dolling up unnecessary... And to be honest, girls and guys could easily spend about the same amount on necessities and still come out about even. Sure, women need to buy feminine hygiene products, but men burn through razors and shaving cream faster than women do, so the cost balances a bit.
(Not saying its a perfect sync, but its close)

@Angilion

Strangely enough, we are in agreement... I`ve personally never met a girl in which the chivalry/sexism thing was an issue. But, like you, I tend to not date those types anyway, so I can`t say from personal experience...

All I know is that its been a running joke for many many years in tv and movies, but I`ve never seen any of the "the man has to pay" in actual practice in real life. Most girls I know are more than happy to pay their own way...

I only let my second boyfriend pay when I didn`t know he was going to be paying haha, any time after that I`d always pay them back. I don`t mind the holding the door open etc. part of it, but then I wont be mad unless it`s dropped in my face either so whatever, I feel uncomfortable when people pay for me. It`s weird... and he`s doing more work anyway, it`s only a problem when they`re being paid different for the same work.
There is some truth to this over-generalization.
Not in my experience. 100 years ago, certainly. 50 years ago, much less but still some truth in it. Now? Not really.

I`ve been trying to think of a woman I`ve dated who expected me to pay for everything as the default, and I can`t. Not one.

Although that may be because I wouldn`t date one who did. I`m not subtle about my views on chivalry, so I wouldn`t be in any way involved with anyone who liked the idea. Especially not any of the hypocrites who like the modern utterly one-sided version of it, for men who are fools and women who are bigots and hypocrites. Men behaving like medieval knights might make some sort of sense with women who behave like medieval ladies, but removing one side and leaving the other is for fools and bigots.

The whole bag of pooe should be left in the history books.

Did I mention that I wasn`t subtle about my views on chivalry?

Probably some. Saudi Arabia, maybe.

But some people have an unshakeable faith that it happens everywhere. Since their faith has no basis in reason or evidence, it`s impossible to change their minds. It`s easier to convert a devout theist to atheism or a radical atheist to theism.

Women never get paid less for equal work. Like in the cartoon, she`s getting paid less because she`s doing less work.

Men generally occupy higher-paying and more skilled jobs than men (if you`re going by the Halifax general census, at least).

Also, women have babies. They`re more likely to take jobs where it wouldn`t be the end of the world if they took a leave.

But seriously think about it: if women are paid less than men for the same work, why would anyone ever hire men at all? An employer who hated women and only hired men would lose out to someone who hired only women, since women would do the same work for half money.

But that doesn`t happen, simply because it`s not true.

OBVIOUSLY its gonna cost more. You don`t see guy out getting their nails done, so of COURSE a girl can claim she pays more to keep herself looking good. But thats because she lives by THAT standard. I like girls who dont waste their money on makeups and expensive procedures just to imoress people. To me, these extreme steps not only aren`t expected of a girl, I`d actually prefer they not try so hard. All the makeup and plastic justs makes people look fake. Natural beauty is the BEST kind of beauty...

Now if a man is doing more work, he should be paid more. But if a man and a woman are doing the exact same job, then YES it is sexism if either of them gets paid more. It`s just the same if a black and a white man had the exact same job, but had a difference in pay.
