Tribe Meets White Man For The First Time

Submitted by: goog! 5 years ago

One of the rare times when an instance like this has ever happened. This is the original footage from 1976.

I`m trying to imagine being one of those tribal men. I feel like I would be freaking out that all his gadgets were so far advanced than anything I know. By the time I saw the mirror I might begin to think they`re superhuman.

There we go. Fakery.

This is completely faked. It wasn`t filmed in 1976 either. The tribe is the Toulambis and they had met white people many times from the 50`s up until that was filmed. The desire for a first contact on film is basically why they`ve done it, but yeah, I call shenanigans.

Awesome video. Human nature at its finest. The tribesmen aren`t whooping and hollering wild people, they`re just humans that don`t live in civilization, same curiosity and spark of intelligence as any other man on the planet. Theres no racism at all. No one there thinks hes superior to anyone else because of skin color, just human animals meeting for the first time in the wild, sizing each other up, figuring out the others intentions, and learning from each other. They`re mannerisms were cool too. The way they all pat the side of their head when the food is good, or when the one guy was embarassed/amazed at his own voice on the tape recorder. Beautiful video of pure, untainted human interaction. Good upload.

I just realized why the tribesmen were so quick to jerk their hands away after first touching the explorer - they were afraid of getting `whitewashed.`

@JZee28: (or anyone else)

Where can I get this? I tried piratebay, btjunkie, TVtorrents etc.

This was the coolest video ever. I think that most people underestimate the capacity of a human, even from the rainforest. I bet they realised many things; like that he was not a God, that he was a friendly human, simply visiting from outside the world, offering some insight in his community, as he recieved some into theirs.

If they still exist today, I bet they still talk about the "visitor" with the knives and the matches. Just like we are viewing this video - 36 years later :)

I suppose the only way to imagine what it must have felt like would be something like a purple-skinned man arriving with ridiculous technology like teleportation and acting like it`s the norm. (but speaking no english)

Wait until the white man comes back to push you from your native land in order to harvest natural resources/and or build on your land. Won`t be so happy then. I`m love this video and think its awe inspiring, I just don`t trust encounters in the future will be as fruitful.

It is a fairly common custom around the world to indicate a lack of hostile intent. Handshake = not holding a weapon.

on david attenboroughs `earth` series there was that south american tribe that never had outside contact, and they didnt interact with them, was cooler than this video, as they just flew over with a helicopter and they were trying to shoot the helicopter with their bow and arrows. so silly.

No longer the center of the universe now are they eh?

Why so many self-haters? This video is amazing. Wake up to modern life - it ain`t that bad. Why do so many people fantasize about a life they know nothing about? You want to go live in the forest then feel free... I like my life and I like that we can still share ideas with other cultures. Jeez, does everything have to be negative?!

congratulations for introducing them to dental chaos, obesity, disease, and the evils of the modern world. sad, that they ever were discovered. sad that we think a mirror and a box of matches makes it all ok. sad that we are so arrogent to suppose that their primitive life is not as good as ours. I envy them, they have(had) the better life.
that guy would have been better off taking to the film crew with that nice looking stoneage axe. then chucking thier bodies in the river.

"And what makes you think their cannibals? Because of the piercings and stuff?"

Well, cannibal warfare in Papua New Guinea has been well studied by cultural anthropologists and described by tribal elders. It`s no longer in practice. You`d know all this if you`d ever studied anthropology.

I`m not here to make moral judgments against other cultures, I didn`t come here to debate. Stop calling people you don`t know ignorant and get over yourself.

Raokin, I think he meant it more in regards to how we`ve brought pollution and drugs, and (modern) weapons, disease and multiple other to them while destroying their old ways of living. And what makes you think their cannibals? Because of the piercings and stuff? You`re EXTREMELY ignorant and clearly think that just because people live differently than you do or anything your familiar with that they must be less sophisticated and are inferior. And so what if they`re "time honored traditions" might be different than those of the "western world" ? Why does that make them bad, as opposed to just different? Who`s to say they don`t have things right and our time-honored traditions are wrong.....you just think like that because it`s what you`re used to.

Yes, I feel so bad for those people. It was so cruel of us to introduce them to modern medicine and other conveniences, while depriving them of their time-honored cannibalistic traditions.
