This woman believes that Great White Sharks are peaceful creatures. She named this one "Shadow" and hand feeds him.

@Baelzar

My thoughts exactly. They claim that she has respect for the Great White, but if she did, she`d stop treating it like a drating puppy.

Okay she doesn`t claim all sharks are friendly. In fact she said she doesn`t feel this way towards other sharks, just this special one. Why is it that people hear poo that isn`t being said? Yes the woman is crazy, but get your captions right.

The backstory to the clip is that Valerie Taylor (assuming it is her) and Ron Taylor did the original Jaws footage (where they used a small diver to make the sharks look bigger) and have been trying to redress the balance since the public went ape poo on whitey`s arse way back when.

Wait I thought great whites were vicious animals that ate everything in their path. </sarcasm>

Granted, I don`t know the backstory or the tactics of diving with great white and wild animals do have minds of their own and can turn on you any second, sharks are an obvious victim of hate propaganda and I the link kinda disproves a lot of it. Now, obviously feeding any wild animal is generally a bad idea, but I think the video is a nice perspective of sharks.

@ draquoir

..But sharks have eaten people. Not many, but some. It`s just simple logic not to hand feed a beast. I would not hand feed a shark, or a (pedo)bear, or a wolf.. Or even a effin moose! You could lose an arm doing that. Wild animals are WILD, you can never be sure of what they are going to do.

I like sharks. As stated below, people assume their violent monsters. More people die from vending machines than sharks.

"See how he bites down on the white platform? That`s because it is trying to see if it`s food and it`ll do the same to you if you`re in the water."

The platform being metal will be triggering its `ampules of lorenzini`. If you are in the water with it, there is a very good chance it won`t bite you - and a small chance that it will with unfortunate consequences. If you make like a prey item - the chances of being test bitten (and probably rejected as lacking in calorific content) increase markedly.

The chances of it jumping out of the water and biting you into kibblets are very slim, unless you`re a class actor desperate to be written out of a crap film...

She drops the word Ron into the conversation, so I`m fairly sure this is Valerie Taylor, who knows a bit about White Sharks. She`s not said that Great White Sharks are peaceful, but that she thinks she understands this particular one (they are all of different character - apparently - I`ve only seen the one skittish 12ft male).

It looks pretty docile, but, even with her weight of knowledge.. wow. I hope she`s not trying too hard to make up for the jaws backlash.

Dr Ritter reckoned he knew Bull Sharks well enough to hand feed them.. and he didn`t come off to well (No blood but not for the squeamish)

That is sooo obvious thyat she has raised that shark from a baby in her tropical fish tank then it outgrew it so she put it in her swimming pool and built the backend of a boat to make it look like she is on the sea. THE LYIN LITTLE BITCH!!

I saw a special in which it showed great white sharks becoming docile after gorging on a dead whale. She`d probably been feeding it for a while and then started the cameras.

Also, you know how snakes use their tongue for sensory? Well, sharks use there teeth and mouth for sensory. See how he bites down on the white platform? That`s because it is trying to see if it`s food and it`ll do the same to you if you`re in the water.

Dear lord almighty. She`s just classically conditioning the shark. Nothing more. This is a powerful predator and she needs to respect that. Trying to form a bond with a wild shark?! Come on lady.

Not sure where to start... DJDoubleb, you said it perfectly, thank you.
Couldn`t help but notice that she was still VERY careful with where she put her feet, how she fed it; cautious, and not too stupid?

I`m sure the sharks` peaceful at the moment since it`s being fed and doesn`t feel threatened. Otherwise I don`t think the crazy lady would still be standing there. She should go for a swim with this shark and see how `peaceful` it is then. :s

This woman is insane. No hospital should treat her when her hand/arm gets bitten off (as it inevitably will).
She can`t "understand" a shark! ZOMG! It`s easier for humans to "understand" fungi than sharks.

"Hmm. This shark is clearly pretty hungry - it`s had three fish already and it keeps coming back for more!
I think I`ll extend my fleshy, nutritious arm to well within its reach, and trust that it`s not hungry enough to deliberately eat me with its razorsharp teeth, nor clumsy enough to accidentally bite further than the end of the fish it can barely see because of the placement of its eyes."

Wow, the balls on that women. I thought she was crazy till she said she normally would never do that. I`ve encountered random friendly animals before. Nothing so dangerous as a shark, they are rare, but some just have no fear of humans. It`s the scared or threatened ones you should watch out for.

She`s gonna end up like Steve Irwin and he was only playing with a Sting Ray- not a friggin shark! Moral of the story , these are wild dangerous animals not pets!

From "Jaws"

Quint: Cage goes in the water, you go in the water. Shark`s in the water. Our shark.
[sings]
Quint: Farewell and adieu to you, fair Spanish ladies. Farewell and adieu, you ladies of Spain. For we`ve received orders for to sail back to Boston. And so nevermore shall we see you again.

If they`re so gentle and has developed an understanding, she should smother herself in seal blubber and go snorkling with them. Me, I`ll stick to guppies.

It seems super smart to teach sharks to associate humans on boats with easy food. I`m sure that won`t ever cause a porblem.
