Imagine walking into a store and buying everything--I think the little old shopkeeper appreciated the sales.

Burton Ian if you went to the site at the end of the video you would see the true purpose of the hipsters. Their selling the stuff they bough as so called art for ridiculous prices.

I find it strange that hipsters can do a truly kind act, and it appears to the rest of the world that they are douchey; or is it that it is not our perception, but they who make it douchey.

hmmm

what jerks... now that old guy has to restock that old guy has to restock the whole freaking store, they coud have just donated the profit he would have made from selling all the stuff and saved him the trouble, it`s not like they are gonna use all that crap they bought

Unless someone in this group has a rich uncle who is going to bale them out, they`ve ruined they`re lives, credit wise, with cash advances. Many credit cards charge over 50 per cent interest on cash advances. And these people have income? If they have income, why didn`t they get a loan for this endeavor. I don`t know, I think it`s dumb. But I am happy for Hercules, he`s a cute little old man.

That didn`t look like nearly enough money. I handle a lot of money for my job and that looked like maybe $5000 at most. Seems a store like that should have twice as money product as what they had money for.

I will not go to their site. Not even to find out what the total was. Although I really, really want to know because it is so fascinating.

"reselling everthing they bought at literally 5000% profit and calling it "art." effing hipsters"

countered by

"They are then selling the items as `pop art` at ridiculous prices with proceeds going back to the shop owner."

sooooo.... ? If the latter is correct, then the former is just a douchebag.

It`s a modern art project where they use the stuff they bought "to challenge peoples perception of value" argh.

That is a sweet story. So what if they resell the stuff as art. This helped an old man go out of business in style. Look at the look on his face. Imho, i call that a very good deed, indeed. :)

wow, these are just a bunch of idiots plotting a get rich quick scheme by reselling everthing they bought at literally 5000% profit and calling it "art." effing hipsters

The store in the video was going out of business, the owner was going to have to start selling at large discounts to remove inventory. The hipsters walked in with $10,000, although I am not sure if they spent it all. They are then selling the items as `pop art` at ridiculous prices with proceeds going back to the shop owner.

It will actually save him money. Makes inv easier to tally. stocking everything all at once will take less time then slowly restocking the inv over the next month. Plus he just got in the black for the whole year!

oh, extra thought, instead of making stupid art out of it, this story should have ended with them giving it all to the hungry homeless.

That was a really nice thing. They bought everything at full price so he didn`t have to mark down anything, and he can go out of business with a little more money in his pocket.

"I wonder how much (extra) it will actually cost him, in time and money, to restock everything.
it took 5 people 3 hours to buy everything, wonder how long for 1 person to stock and inventory everything...
they may have "helped" his store for a day, but not for much longer."

You guys are retarded

This reeks of fakery and bullsh*t.

Terrible, just terrible. Visiting their site is the last thing I`ll do. It looks like I won`t miss much.

I doubt there exists any situation where buying everything in stock at a store would be a good idea.

Also they didn`t tell us the total. BS, BS...

when you are going out of business, you don`t restock anything.

For those without google.

The store owner is closing after 40 years and was selling everything. So these "artists" bought it all to make art.

Only in America...

Also, what about anyone else who planned on going shopping there today?

What are they doing with all the stuff they buy? Donating it?

They were so smug. "This is what we`re doing with our lives."

@Kane132, It looks like that guy owns and works the store. He is completely reliant on his sales. Right there he probably covered rent for a few months ahead of time. That and havent you seen movies where people say they want to buy the whole store. I doubt that happens. This group just made it happen.

Awesome. AND some good music for a change. ELO ftw!

I can see some problems, however - he`s gonna have mad customers while his shelves remain empty for a day or two.

I hope they donated all that crap to charity or something. They didn`t look like hipsters, but they could still make `art` with it. :/

What`s the point?? I don`t get it

Male 39
If they wanted to be charitable, couldn`t they have just given him the money and not taken the stuff? That way, he makes an actual profit (instead of maybe a 20%(?) profit on every item) plus he doesn`t have to spend a third of his remaining life re-stocking! :D
Either way, it`s just nice to comment on a non-JDKIAB post, ha!

Note how they don`t let you see the final total? That`s because they don`t want anyone to know how much mark-up they make when they re-sell everything as "art" (check the site at the end). Seriously, $50 for a bic lighter? $150 for an upside-down can of coke? And I bet the old guy doesn`t see a penny of their profits.

Haha, that shop owner is Greek. Lots of Greek stuff on here lately. Well at least one Greek is doing good business, somewhere in the world. Cause we are being looted to all drat by the IMF and ECB here in the motherland.

How can we be sure that they really bought the whole store. They might have paid the old man for acting and after making the video, put all the things back on shelves.

I`m surprised that no one has mentioned how they misspelled everything in their signs. Anyway that was pretty awesome, but what was the grand total?
