Seagull Steals Video Camera, Flies Away

Submitted by: eddlvnv 5 years ago in Misc

I don"t know--could a seagull even lift a video camera? If this is faked, it"s the best I"ve ever seen.

The camera had clear shots of what was a nearby hotel or such - somebody found it, saw the shots (or other useful info on there) and took it back, it happens.

If it was real, the odds of finding the camera again would be slim at best.

This is the gopro (the camera name it the title)

Im pretty sure a seagull could lift that, so this is either real, or a gopro viral ad.

"The fact is happen in Cannes Cote d`Azur (France) the owner of the camera is a tourist. He see where the seagull go ( not so far indeed). So he climb the ancient tower and take back his camera. This is what news say about this situation."
@pumba62"Also I lived in a east coast town for many years right on the ocean and I never saw gulls flying at night ...at least as far as I can remember." I was in Cannes some time and i assure that cause of many lights and night life of this city also birds never sleep. They have a frenetic life in night cause they try to pick up what lot of turist leave on the way while they walk in to the "Promenade".

Would have to be the GoPro with GPS, otherwise there`s no way they`d find it again. They are pretty small and light cameras so being carried by a bird this size is possible.

Just a little odd that it carried it so well.

A little fishy that the seagull was right there when he put it down and he didn`t wave the bird off. Seems like a setup, but if it were real that wouldn`t surprise me, gulls are sneaky little shyts

What was that guy doing, creeping around a neighborhood like that in the middle of the night, anyway? I`m skeptical.

I am calling fake and here`s why. When the guy reacted with, "hey, hey, huff," the seagull appeared to already be in the air. How come it sounds just as close? If I were a betting woman I would say it`s a commercial. Apparently, GoPro has used viral marketing in the past.

There is no way in the world that this was fake. I just don`t see how something like this could possibly be faked.

for people that say is impossible cause of weight... so can you explain me why praglider that is much more light than a human body allow us to fly? The answer is that the weight is not so relevant, more relevant is the air lift capacity.

Well you would first have to find out the air-speed velocity of an unladen seagull.

I was half expecting for it to either poo on the camera, or take the camera into some sort of bird society

First, as a couple people have pointed out, you have to determine the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow...

"It`s a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut."

GoPro Weight: 3.3oz (94g) incl. battery, 5.9oz (167g) incl. housing

Average seagull weight : 7.7 pounds

actually you cant really argue if it can or cannot carry the camera cause you dont even know what kind of camera it it. for all you know it`s the camera on an iPod nano. I`m guessing it`s an ipod touch, or an iphone wish GPS tracking so it was able to be located.

It`s a GoPro camera, they weigh under a pound... I bet it`s real

Seagulls have a very large wingspan so the problem is not about weight is about air lift. And i think a seagull can carry a camera without problem, they can take also big fishes out of water so a camera in the air is not a problem.
P.S hey IAB when you think to post again my links, i`ve submitted this video like 3 days ago whit a bunch of others.

@Nayrbarr Theres a huge difference between faked and staged. The bird definitely picked up the camera and flew, whether the guy planned it or not is a different story, however.

Possibility: he put like a piece of meat inside of the protective case and tracked it later with gps maybe?

It`s fake. The seagull may well have flown off with a very small camera, but it looks like it was planned by whoever owned the camera.
