why take a kid that young to the zoo anyway? I think I`ll wait, if I ever have a child, to when they can say "animal" to take them to the zoo.

let me get this straight.

the parents were laughing at the lion trying to get to the baby despite there being a translucent wall in the way... because they somehow thought that the fact it wanted to sink it`s razor sharp teeth into the supple skin of their own child...is cute?

Hm.

I had a friend who worked at the Phila Zoo, Big Cat House. And she`d always observe (and you could see it): when young children or toddlers would enter the room, the lions and tigers would all go into stalk mode. So, while it`s possible this lioness just wanted to play, I`m inclined to believe that instinct was kicking in, and her motivation was more along the lines of, "Wow. Look at all that tender, high-calorie baby fat, which would require little expenditure of energy to get into my stomach."

So sweet! They try to "rescue" the baby and he cries! Goes back to the lioness and is happy

Baby loves that big kitty!!

Don`t they carry their cubs in their mouth? Maybe she just wanted to carry him?

@Intaresting/ Cats are that size, hence the one in the video dumbass! And it looks pretty conquered to me.

The lioness was trying to play, thats not how they act at all when they hunt.

I dunno, it looked more like the lion was using her teeth to try to get through the glass, not eat the kid. Although, that could have been the lion`s true goal once through the glass.

Also, this reminds me of the Hungry Tiger from Ozma of Oz. Even though it`s a lion.

EntrE- If there weren`t glass there, the parents would have done everything in their power to protect the child from the lion. Kids take cues from their parents when to be frightened and when not to be. You can see that the kid is nervous at the beginning of the video, but soon calms down when his parents` behavior indicates that there is no danger.

Besides, even if the kid had tried to run, do you really think that ANY toddler could possibly outrun a full-grown lion?

EntrE, Why would we need evolution when we have thick glass walls?

Om nom nom nom baby
lols that was so cute xD
The lioness wasn`t being agressive though so I highly doubt she actually wanted to eat the baby.

for the baby that`s an evolution fail. it should have been scared and running away. back in the old days this kid would not have survived

People who think the cat wasn`t trying to "om nom" the kid`s head, think about it this way: If cats were that size, they`d conquer the human race within weeks. I bet what cats think about is how they could kill their masters for 90% of the time.

I think it had something to do with the stripes on the kid`s hat. Maybe they have a ball that looks like that baby`s head or something.

Maybe they toss any lost babies in there for them to play with at the end of the day.

A lioness did that to my son last year. We couldn`t find any zookeepers to ask why, though.

I wonder if they are trying to eat the child or if they see him/her as a cub and want to play or be a maternal figure

I don`t know...that lion doesn`t look like it`s meal time. Maybe she wants to treat the baby like a lion cub. Not that it would be a good idea either way.
