Submitted by: kitteh9lives 5 years ago in Entertainment

Fox is a "news" organization, and Comedy central is a comedy organization. Does Wallace get that?

i disagree. Jon Stewart satirizes the media, colbert satirizes the right wing.

I would love to Colbert join in the conversation, I noticed how they don`t attack him even though he does exactly the same as Stewart.

Does Wallace really not know that the company he works for is run by one guy with friends in high places, much like all news networks. The difference is, you don`t hear constantly about other news sources getting facts wrong, or flat out making poo up. I know they do from time to time, but no where near as badly as Fox News does.

The beauty of freedom of choice is that you choose what you see. If you didn`t want to see then don`t.

The ugliness of freedom of choice is that I have to read people wining like yourself, because I don`t know what your "message" is about until I read it...

Any European can see an American "news" channel and laugh a little, we have issues with our news channels but the bias and sensationalism you put in your news is amusing.
Unfortunately that concept of "news" is spreading to our continent and its getting harder to see unbiased news everywhere...

Its sad but the "check for yourself the facts" is more and more a truthful and unfortunately it is getting harder and harder to do.

to everyone playing the fox-news-isnt-biased-look-at-msnbc card: saying that is like arguing that you arent wearing a red shirt because someone else is also wearing a red shirt. jon addresses this when talking about how his viewers tend to be people fed up with all the biased news. which makes sense because all the daily show does is make fun of those biased networks. fox news more than other because honestly its easy. a group so easily offended and so steadfastly wrong and so paranoid. its the reason people play with fireworks you know that if you light it on fire eventually there will be an awesome explosion.

Because of its success the other networks have scrambled to copy their model, turning television news in an unwatchable morass of punditry and polemics with BOTH sides paying lip service to journalistic integrity while creating elaborate webs of fear and half-truths to ensnare viewers. That`s why I read the Christian Science Monitor instead.

I do not believe Fox is evil.

No news organization has a perfect record, None. Singling out one, Fox news for example, and no others, is certainly evidence of bias and reveals the liberal agenda to discredit them.

True. This thread was about Fox so I talked about Fox but MSNBC has its own fair share of problems (Keith Olbermann to name one). But Fox is the most egregious.

Still Fox News beats all other news outlets in the ratings and that`s why the liberals continue to relentlessly jump on any perceived miscue. But you never see an apology when they themselves get it wrong.

That is not necessarily a good thing. In the hunt for ratings they ratcheted up the anger and the scaremongering with deliberate misinformation. It was a brilliant business move that made them the most powerful network

"So go right ahead, believe his crap and those he pays to spout more crap, So that h can enrich himself even more while sending the majority of Americans into the poor house."

I see you have no evidence of course. But that`s beside the point. This conversation was about Fox and its many flaws, not George Soros your pathetic attempt to duck the issue not withstanding. George Soros may indeed be what you claim, but that does not excuse Fox News which is the issue at hand. Besides, your assumptions about me and where I get my news are completely off the mark.

Soros is shorting the dollar right now (betting the dollar will fall in value) on one hand and is leading the effort to destabilize the government so that he will make billions of dollars more on that money bet. He`s already done the same thing to other countries and even broke the bank of England.

So go right ahead, believe his crap and those he pays to spout more crap, So that h can enrich himself even more while sending the majority of Americans into the poor house.

davymid: I`ve watched BBC America for quite awhile, It is one of the most left leaning media outlets, except for MSNBC, that I`ve ever encountered. the BBC has re-reported some outright falsehoods told by liberal news here in the US, as If it was gospel truth.

Now I know why you believe conservative Americans are crazy, you`re being fed that crap from the BBC.

@Crackrjak: Just because information comes from somebody who has an interest in it doesn`t automatically invalidate the data. For instance, tobacco companies fund studies that dispute the effect of second-hand smoke. The fact that the study was funded by a group that obviously stands to gain by the study does not, in and of itself, invalidate the data. So the study was funded by Soros. So what? Same with your own link from Andrew Brietbart`s website, whose obviously not a neutral source. To disprove it you have to do a little bit more than that like pointing out a methodological flaw. Seriously, this is basic LSAT stuff. And I notice you didn`t mention the second link which is a handy reference of Fox lies. And you didn`t answer the issue of Fox`s duty to journalistic integrity vis-a-vis its viewers at all. You just made a stupid statement about a nonexistent conspiracy. Fox would be proud.

Not that Europe`s a Utopia (it`s not), but the political bias in News reporting is strictly an American phenomenon. Seriously, we don`t have that in Europe. We just report news. I get my news from the BBC for a very good f*cking reason. Why the partisanship?

If I had a dollar for every time I`ve expressed a vaguely left-of-centre view on here, guaranteed I`d be called a "libtard", "kool-aid drinker" (no idea what kool-aid even is, but it sounds medical), or that I have watched too much Olberman or Madcow (Seriously, I don`t know who those people even are). Literally never watched a segment, don`t give a f*ck. I would suck as team member in a pub quiz on "name that political commentator".

Here`s a crazy idea: How about journalists just report facts, without the bias? Isn`t that what we pay them to do by buying their newpapers/hitting their webpage, whatever?
Nice try, Mr. Stewart, but the MSM all have biases. This, actually, is a good thing. The pretense of dispassionate and disinterested reporting of the news has always been a bit of a farce. You can`t keep biases out when you`re deciding which stories get reported and which don`t (let alone the content of the stories), it`s human nature. If more news orgs. were honest about their biases, I think they would end up with a more loyal and possibly larger audience.
Oldfart, I disagree entirely. Journalism should be completely unbiased. It should report the facts, heck, the News. Clue`s in the title. You say MSM (Main-Stream Media) is just as bad, and maybe you`re right, I have no idea. I assume by MSM you mean the likes of Maddow, Olberman and others, and their news channels.

Does it not have a duty to its viewers to deal in facts rather than misinformation and half-truths if it claims to be a legitimate source of news? And isn`t the failure of this duty all the more egregious in light of the fact that (as Fox itself consistently likes to boast) they have the largest audience of any cable news network? And it`s failure is only compounded by its hypocrisy.

Stephen Crowder`s manager submitted his work to producers at The Daily Show. A senior producer wrote to the manager to say, "Steven is definitely a talented guy," but "we never book conservative pundits." Crowder then made one of his weekly YouTube Videos in which he displayed the letter and discussed the incident.

At this point, according to the next video the Daily Show producer who wrote the letter went ballistic at being publicly exposed as a political blacklister. She furiously phoned Crowder`s manager and upbraided him for showing Crowder her letter. The reaming was so bad, his manager, feeling he had to protect his business and his other clients, dumped Crowder.

nubblins: Beck tells people on his show, "Don`t believe me look this up for yourself." all the time.
Beck is a political commentator, He admits he`s biased and tells people why he is. Beck calls himself a Libertarian, by the way, not a Republican or Democrat. But at least Beck has sources to back up his claims and many times shows video/audio directly from the politicians he comments on.

Maddow, Oblermann, and Stewart have all shown text attributed to conservatives posted by anonymous bloggers, that have no accountability, that later turns out to be false, twisted, or taken totally out of context.

That sort of `Rumor Mill` journalism has even made it`s way into media outlets like ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS.

At least I`ve never once seen Beck rely on a source from an anonymous blogger, So who really has more integrity ?

John Edwards is the one whose production staff bully upcoming comedians isn`t he? Comedians who are rejected by his show because they are right-wing, and then publicise the reason they have not been on, so John Edwards`s production staff then have a screaming fit at the comedian`s agent, forcing the agent to dump the comedian?

Right, great man that Edwards. He has a President who is the greatest target for satire and humour ever, being so full of himself, having set himself above everyone else (remember the "lightworker"?) only to turn out to be a complete idiot once in power. And what does Edwards do? Oh, he doesn`t do anything with that material.

Oldfrt, I think they want you to think that these vast chasms exist, but really they don`t. They`ve got us all arguing with each other over issues like abortion and birth certificates, it`s insane. It keeps our attention away from the fact that lawmakers on both sides of the aisles serve the interests of their corporate sponsors and lobbyists, not the public they`re elected to represent. We live in a very plutocratic society, and unless some kind of campaign finance amendment is made banning the buying of political legislation, the status quo will continue. Meanwhile we`ll sit here arguing over congressmen`s wieners and tax cuts.

@DrProfessor, I would agree with you if politics were really a spectrum. Using the terms `right` and `left` causes problems because it implies that there is a middle. Unfortunately, the progressive and conservative movements are so different in visions and assumptions that there really isn`t a viable middle. It`s not Coke vs. Pepsi, it`s more like bicycle tires vs. a banyan tree.

@crakrjack- based on what data?

@oldfrt- I think you`re wrong. In a VERY big way. A big problem with biased news outlets is that they polarize their viewers. If you consistently feed people one side of the argument, they become misinformed, and don`t get to fully explore an issue. You are, in a sense, brainwashing them by telling them exactly what they want to hear, and shutting off any dissenting or cautionary voices.

I may lean left, but that doesn`t mean I should blindly assume democrats are always right, and that anyone who opposes them is an idiot.

Polarization is the death of politics.

There is bias on CNN and MSNBC. MSNBC is moving more towards Fox as of late with withholding information and for skewing the facts to fit their own agenda. But Fox is the king when it comes to withholding information, and not so much as glaring to the left for ideas or concession. Fox is the most biased and hateful organization that exists, it is not even worthy of being called news.

As for Jon Stewart, I do believe he does hide behind the "I`m just a comedian" aspect a bit much, but he is right. The Palin commercial comparison to a herpes commercial was just for laughs, it was not implying anything that wasn`t immediately obvious. Stewart is first and foremost a comedian, yes he has liberal views and shares them, but he isn`t a news source either. If he was, he wouldn`t have interviews and dedicate segments to one story or another. He would have a much longer show, and a show that covered all the news of the day. But he doesn`t. It`s for entertainment, not for infor
