If it`s simply a new controller for the existing console, I have to say it`s not bad but it might be an accessory I`d wait awhile to purchase. If it`s an entirely new HD console with the new controller, then I`ll see what kinda trade in value my existing Wii will yield and see if it`s worth the price. Honestly, Nintendo has some good stuff. My only complaint about Nintendo is that they don`t have as many mature titles for their console. I can understand why but at the same time if Nintendo is worried about their image, they should understand that we now have game ratings and parents can make informed decisions. Honestly, I think Nintendo does well by making their DS and Wii consoles work hand-in-hand.

lord. everyone is talking about how awful the graphics are and I think it`s pretty nifty. though, I have to admit, that if there was EVER a chance on earth that mario and zelda would crossover to sony (when the world ends, lol) I would take a nice, stinky poo on wii.

dmoney, you were obviously raised wrong if graphics are that important... the Wii graphics were fine, no doubt not bad enough to make a good game bad. And also, nobody has played Wii games on Dolphin apparently.... The games look great, full HD for the most part, they just never made the Wii capable out outputting at full-HD. obviously, in the era of HD, this will come with that support and likely mean any Wii games played on it will also be to their full potential

cool idea. i have a Wii and i can personally say they suck a ss. so i`m going to say nay on this one. because they spend all there time making a `cool` console that all the game suck. maybe it`ll come with time. take Sony with the PlayStaion. the PS1 came out in 1994, and look how far it`s come in the past 17 years.

that make me feel old.

It`s a very clever idea which they are going to struggle to find a market for, espacially when you can do similar with the ipad and appleTV (albeit at twice the price probably.) It`s a piece of kit which when put into the wild people will suddenly find appication for, just hope it lasts that long.

Ok, the Wii U looks amazing. It`s graphics are getting a total revamp, the controller seems very practical and very fun to use, also, did anyone see the lineup? Darksiders Two and Assassins Creed Revalation and yes a new Legend of Zelda! This is going to be one amazing system!

I see they had to put anything popular EVER into the design, ipad, etc. This is really sad. When I was little, there was such a thing as playing outside with neighbors until it got dark. These days it seems unheard of.

Nintendo is dead. Wii U will be boring just like Wii. I bought the wii for the innovation, thought it would be cool, and it was! But playstation move is better. Also, where are the good games wii? Where are the good games!? Im not going to buy every single crappy system you release for one god damned zelda game, 100 games that are essentially the same movement oriented games with new graphics, and 3 re-releases of mario games that are for super mario brothers what madden 09 is to madden 07. I hate you nintendo. You have dissappointed me since I waited all night to get the gamecube. BY THE WAY... GAMECUBE WAS BETTER THAN WII!!! How does that feel nintendo? And N64 was the best for its time. But if i had to choose one system and its entire game collection til the end of time, (by nintendo) it would be super nintendo. Super nintendo was nintendos best system. But N64 was close.

Why won`t Nintendo die?
Since when did people enjoy screwing around with multiple screens, controllers, hand gestures, styli (styluses?), etc? I thought games were supposed to be for controlling characters capable of doing incredible things with next to no physical exertion. If I wanna play golf, I`ll go to a golf course. If I wanna hit the ball 10,000 yards without superhuman strength, I`ll turn on Tiger Woods 20XX.
Now I know why Nintendo named it wiiU, because they want to let everyone know that they really are just "takin` the piss" (look it up America) out of You! The consumer.

That`s a pretty poor mark to be aiming for. PS3 is archaic in hardware terms. It`s 5 years old!

Nintendo do innovation much better than Sony and MS. I`m curious as to how a controller with a 6-inch screen in it can be used in games.

I`m also curious as to how they can possibly meet the alleged price point here. Under £250 including the big controller/display? Seems like a tall order unless there`s next to nothing in the console and it`s a mostly dumb terminal to the net.

Also, the name.

Weeeeeooooo! It`s a dreadful name. Sounds like a cross between a horrible redneck cliche and a pig.

I don`t see how they`re going to appeal to gamers as well as their current main market, young children and other people who sometimes want to play very simple games.

I`m interested, though. Not interested enough to want one, but interested enough to see what can be done with it.

Just to clear up some of the general misinformation here (which is partly Nintendo`s fault):
-The console`s output is estimated to be somewhere close to the PS3, maybe less maybe more, but definitely higher than the 360. It won`t use DVD`s, but they haven`t announced what kind of disc they will use. It`s hard to compare it graphically right now, since no 3rd party developers have made even a demo for it yet
-The Wii was far from a "mistake" from Nintendo`s point of view. It made them billions and eclipsed sales of the competition. Just because we, as mainstream gamers, didn`t like their approach doesn`t mean they didn`t succeed.
-ATM, only one Wiipad (copyright joystiq)can be used with the system at a time. The rest will have to be Wiimotes.
-As dumb as this reveal is, they most certianly ARE being conscious of the hardcore. Titles in development include Assassin`s Creeds: Revelations, Darksiders 2, Batman: Arkham City, Ninja Gaiden 3, Ghost Recon, and more.

Potentially looks very interesting; Imagine if they made the controller open source and allowed one to run linux/mac/windows/android on it; wifi enabled, flash, e.reader or even a built in camera. But they wont. It`ll be just a controller :(

First off, the opening speech was utter nonsense.
Secondly, they made the same mistake as the first time. It`s all about the controller, which means pooty graphics, probably no internal memory and no real improvement in performance.

I`m sticking to the PC, been on it longer than I have consoles.

Its just another thing that will get accidentally thrown at the TV, or stepped on, or dropped, or flung into something else. Owning a Wii of any sort it seems means that you need to have coordination. I thought the whole reason you got a game was so you didn`t have to (hand eye coordination doesn`t count).

Also: Don`t even think they`re doing this because ``naming the successor of your consoles the same way is good, because it keeps a sense of familiarity. THUS people will buy it, because they`re comfortable with it.``

The Wii U looks so much like the Wii, there`s going to be alot of confusion and people will simply not buy it. Not just because they`ll think it`s a slightly upgraded Wii, but also because no one is willing to spend a large amount of money to play the games they can just as easily play on their PS3/X360 that they already own.

And don`t even begin on Nintendo exclusive franchises. It simply does not suffice.

I have a Wii and a DS and 3DS. But I will not
be buying this new console. It`s absolutely ridiculous that they expect people to pay for something that`s so incredibly lacking inspiration.

Almost an insult, even. Like: ``Hey tards. We have a new console. We didn`t even really try, because we know you`ll buy it anyway.``

Also:

I`m really starting to become annoyed by Nintendo`s marketing approach. Or their lack of
comprehension on what works and what doesn`t.

Fun fact: 3DS (They`re latest 3D handheld) is selling poorly. Why? 1) Lack of promoting and advertisement. 2) By NAMING their handheld the `3DS` people that are uninformed (caused BY the lack of advertisement) just assume that the 3DS is a 3D version of the DS. Just a slightly improved model capable of showing 3D images.

WHY DO THE SAME WITH THIS SYSTEM? The thing LOOKS the same f*cking way. It`s white, approx. the same SHAPE, same controllers can be used, the name `Wii U` hardly differs from `Wii` itself.

Wake up, fail company. And fire the people that work on the marketing of your products.

My PoV:

- Wii was a terrible name. Wii U is even worse.
Why not name it the `Nintendo U`. It gives people the feeling that it`s NEW and fresh. Not simply
another mildly-upgraded successor.

- The main reason Nintendo is releasing the ``Wii`` is to put themselves where Microsoft en Sony are. To appeal to the hardcore gaming public. But honestly though?

WHY would I pay 300 - 400 dollars for a NEW CONSOLE so I can play the SAME F*CKING GAMES on the PS3 I already own? It doesn`t make sense.
``Yeah, but the Wii U plays differently``. Sorry, I`m not willing to put down THAT amount of money JUST to play a game differently.

"Kinect is something totally different, and more awesome."

Yeah, it is- which is why I said that Xbox "one-upped" (no pun intended) the Wii when they introduced the Kinect. But the fact remains that Nintendo pioneered motion-sensor gaming, just like they`ve pioneered everything else. I`m not gonna hate on Xbox or the PS3 because both have a lot to offer, but my personal preference is for Nintendo. They`ve produced some of the best game titles ever. Is every Mario/Zelda/DK etc game great? Hell no. But the best of the games in the Nintendo lineup are among my favorite video games hands down.

My understanding was that this was just the controller of the new system. While an integral part of the new system, it is not the system itself. If you`ve noticed, many of the games on display were MUCH better quality than the Wii`s graphics. Another thing to note, is that it is not a motion controller, which would still be used. I`ve read that the new system will be backwards compatible as well, so if you want to, just sell your Wii to someone now before it loses its value if you intend to buy the new console next year.

Nintendo has always been my favorite. They`re constantly in the lead with innovations- Microsoft and Sony (and in the past, Sega) have always competed with brute force (i.e. more computing power) and by one-upping the innovations that Nintendo made, like when the Playstation (or was it PS2?) added analog joysticks to their controller, or when Microsoft came out with the Kinect.

Plus Nintendo`s characters have had more staying power. I can totally understand why gamers who like immersive FPS experiences prefer the Xbox, and I respect that, but that`s just not what I`m into. Honestly, if I decided that`s what I wanted, I`d build myself a PC that kicks the X Box 360`s ass.

Since I`ll actually have my licence and be working as an RN by the time this comes out, I`ll definitely be buying one.

There is no reason CoD or any other FPS wouldn`t work on the Wii U just as good as on a PS3 or Xbox now there`s dual thumbsticks. Especially as if the rumours are true it`ll be the most powerful console until Sony or M$ make a new one, and that doesn`t looks like it`s happening any time soon.

IMO Nintendo are leading innovation again, original DS lead the touchscreen wave, 3DS lead the 3D gaming market, Wii lead the casual market, Wii U is leading the market for controllers with more functionality. The name is a bit retarded, but I can forgive that.

Anyone else think that the Wii U is like a DS, the controller being the bottom part and the TV being the top part? Should make games easier to port between consoles.

Nintendo has done a lot of things right. Really, it`s up to the third parties now to decide to support them. I can see similarities between this and the DS`s two-screen setup, the controller screen could be used for something as simple as a HUD or a map in a traditional-style game like an RPG or FPS. We`ll see how it goes.
