Unless you`d rather play your real instrument in which case you`d look down on the iPad owning dink.

Deviros: @trippyhippy9: show us the reasonably priced all-in-one app that makes it happen (and does it well) please.

How about Solo Virtual Guitar?

Lots of others out there too. And I don`t even have to junk up my computer with iTunes.

Garage band is a nice program to use as a stepping stone for music recording. Garage band`s music doesn`t have to be all computer performed music. I used a usb cable called "jamlab" which lets you plug in an electric guitar/bass via cable and eventually, even got a seperate USB mike just so I could get a decent acoustic guitar sound. I ended up getting the next step up which is their program "Logic", which has more options and is more for advanced recording. Regardless, if I had the choice between recording on garage band and being in a garage with an 8 track tape, I`d use the 8 track.

I hope some scientist finds the "hater" gene in people and we can figure out why folks be hatin` so much.

GB is a great tool for your average joe to make music with. Iv made lots music with it and had fun doing it. I can play guitar, bass, keys IRL (not very well though) and GB is an easy way to make a track quickly. Sure a real guitar is better for the feel and harmonics and stuff like that but whatever. I can`t put a guitar in my backpack along with drums, bass, organ, and recording device.

My guess is the haters are mostly crappy `musicians` and PC fanboys. Non-musicians and highly skilled ones should see the benefit of this device/software. You can make amazing music with just a cheap guitar and a cassette 4-track and you can make total garbage with a $3000 Martin and ProTools. Personally I make quicky hip-hop beats on my iPhone while riding the subway so anytime, anywhere I can make music. Can`t do that with an MPC.

Haters are just being idiots - you couldn`t play g/b this well if you didn`t know how to play the instrument up to capacity.
the gutar and bass anyway...

@liberalirony: Really? It`s not like anyone can pick up an iPad and start playing it like this - it still takes a significant amount of skill and knowledge of music theory to be able to actually play the device this way. I`m not usually one to do this, but, please, show us that this is so easy, by making your own.

This is impressive - one guy (apparently), using multiple takes, essentially playing with himself (hahaha ok, joke`s over) as the rest of his bandmates, resulting in a pretty impressive track. He`s basically being Trent Reznor right there.

@Liberalirony I was thinking the same thing, but what really constitutes a "real instrument" these days? I mean, he played his ipad and out came music so wouldn`t that make it an instument? I don`t know, I personally don`t like the way things seem to be heading these days

For those of you who are saying its "Better to play the real thing". Imagine you are riding in a plane or on a train, when suddenly you get this sweet musical idea. Well now you have a way of recording these ideas easily on the go. Don`t assume those who use this program are being "too lazy" to learn the real thing. Chances are they might be a seasoned professional. It`s a pretty sweet tool for composition.

pretty cool, but I`ve got no need for it. I`m in a band and we can do that too, but...You know. With real instruments.

Still, that app is pretty cool. I was surprised it could do bends. I think I`d have fun with it.

"From watching him play the guitar solos, I`ll bet he knows how to play a "real" guitar, and quite well."

Agreed, nomnomnom. The bending and slides s/he was employing weren`t random and they weren`t just imagined by someone who`s never played.

Ditto on what @shinu wrote.

Even though these weren`t "real" instruments, this took a lot of skill and musical ability. From watching him play the guitar solos, I`ll bet he knows how to play a "real" guitar, and quite well. And, even so, it would have taken some work and practice to play so well on the iPad.

I like Garage Band a lot; it`s a fun piece of software that is very easy to use.

But as good as Garage Band is, the experience of using it doesn`t even come close to the experience of learning to play a real instrument, writing your own songs, and teaming up with other musicians to perform live in public.

I`m all for hating on apple, but I don`t understand the comments about learning to play "the real thing" or "real instruments." that guy still wrote and performed his own music, and just played it on an instrument, it just wasn`t a physical one.

Nice interface, and, I asssume, it`s got a way to plug in analogue or digital instruments directly via USB or Firewire? I wish there was a nice, easy interface like this for PCs. Maybe there is?

It`s pretty cool but the thing about playing music on something as Novel as a Ipad is that there is no emotion to it. Just Bit`s and Byte`s
