Submitted by: kitteh9lives 6 years ago in Entertainment

Females in video games often seem unprotected for battle, compared to their male counterparts....It"s the naked truth.

I think the real problem isn`t that female characters need more armor, it`s that male characters need LESS armor. ;-)

"We can use that to justify all of this."
That WAS the justification.

In the past, female characters were primarily long-ranged
attack magic and medical magic users.

The skimpy outfit just fit into the whole
"What kind of female wants to lug around 50lbs of..."
I can`t do it: I just wanted to watch the chain-mail moving
with her ass.
That is why people play games like "Tomb Raider," isn`t it?

Yep. We can use that to justify all of this.

Her armor works better because men would be to busy checking her out to fight. Actually if she was topless they would be rendered completely helpless and unable to defend them selves.

World of Warcraft female armor covers everything, except everything looks smaller than the men`s armor. *cough*Shoulderpads*cough*

Warcrafts armor has really been doing well towards this subject, the epic armors are really not much different at ALL from the male versions, they are just cut to show a bit of boob sometimes, by sometimes i dont even mean alot either.. as for gears of war, its not exactly a FANTASY GAME now IS IT?! its not like warcraft or diablo, dungeons and dragons, lord of the rings, ect ect. its just another War Military re-tread with cooler ideas. (i do admit the locust horde is amazing, and id even be happy being in the Cogs) but you cant really call it fantasy

as long as all the happy parts are protected, that is all she needs.

@green_batman that is true, but it`s also optional and even some of the guys are wearing skirts (like zevran). I do realize there are characters in those games with more..revealing outfits (Morrigan or even Miranda), but I think it`s still better than lots of other games out there.

I think gears of war 3 will fix this

The funniest part of the whole thing is that the female medieval warrior is wearing a modern bra clearly visible. I love that they didn`t bother to try to conceal it, it makes the video funnier.

Maybe she adds her Charisma bonus to AC, and the Armor adds her Charisma bonus to her Charisma?

(2 internets for anyone who gets the reference).

@BloodyCanker: Sort of. The female warriors and rogues still have their legs uncovered an awful lot of the time in the Dragon Age games.

well, there are exceptions, thankfully. Like female Commander Shepard, the warden in Dragon Age, female Hawke in Dragon Age 2, if you play a female in Oblivion...those are from the top of my head, there`d be more if I actually thought about it..but yeah, 95% of the time it`s like this.

Shouldn`t she be in the castle taking care of her husband`s children instead?

i point to the old addage "sex sells." most gamers are men, and seeing a male character in a really spikey suit of armor with a huge 5 foot sword swung around with one hand reinforces the notion that men are supposed to be the protectors, while they have the female characters wearing skimpy armor purely for fanservice. Thats all it is, fanservice....

There seems to be a shortage of a realistic middle ground for both sexes in a lot of swords and sorcery type fantasy. It`s either leather or chainmail underwear or overly ornate full plate (usually with spikes on it) and a 5 foot sword (carried casually in one hand).

Video games do seem to lean towards the leather/chainmail underwear for women more than for men, though. Probably expecting the market to be predominantly male adolescents.
