The problem is if you make and exception for him, you have to make one for everyone else who is here, and for anyone else in the world who wants to come here. All what the hell, lets just tell the whole world they are legal citizens here.

the way he defines Americans makes me think that most people living in the US aren`t really Americans

He`s one of the only Americans I`ve heard from online who make America look good. The legal systems everywhere are old, and aren`t helping anyone that they were meant to help in the first place. The only thing they are doing is making old, bald, white guys` jobs easier and filling their wallets.

So, he knows he`s been in violation of the law for about a decade, and instead of trying to fix it he makes a youtube video to try and get sympathy?

It doesn`t matter how good of a person you are if you look at a law and decide that you`re special enough that it doesn`t apply to you. That makes you a criminal.

1. Ignorance isn`t a defense
2. Good story, but he`s the minority. I`m sure you`ll find tons of illegals that would rather not work hard, be proud to be in America, and not pay taxes or contribute to society.
3. He needs to go through the proper channels anyways, its whats fair and just.

slaves that ran away from their masters were also breaking the law. maybe his characterization of this being a new underground railroad isn`t that far off...

I can easily define American:One who was born here or emigrated in a lawful manner. While this man came here illegally through no fault of his own, ethics and moral character would dictate that you go through the proper channels to make things right-rather than collude with others to keep the illegal status hidden. And the fact that a state employee would warn him off is incomprehensible.
This guy says a few times here that he does not have the right papers, when in fact he has none.Just forgeries. He is not a slave; He has no underground railroad. He is illegally in this country. He may be a nice guy,he may be hardworking, but he knowingly broke the law.For at least ten years. This is not admirable.Admirable would be for him to make it right. Not expect the law to be changed to suit his situation.Check out sometime, what the Philippines policy on treatment of illegals.
If you are not legal, get out.If you want to come back,do it according to our laws.

You are more than welcome to live in America, but you need to:

1. Pay taxes
2. Speak English

IMHO.

Meanwhile at the school I teach at about one third of the kids are there illegally. The school keeps them since the sparse funding from the state comes from the number of kids in the seats. The police aren`t going to do anything since they have their hands full with violent crimes that they can`t even take care of the child prostitution rings on campus.

Typicaljerk, well considering I have summer college classes at 8 in the morning, I feel that it is inefficient to go to work at 5 only to work for 2 hours then to go to class until about 3.

And it`s not so much as me whining about it, I was using my personal experiences as a point of reference. But I guess putting in 30 or so applications in for the past 3 months means I`m not trying.

look I dont care how hard he worked or how much he pays in taxes or what he does. The law says you are an illegal therefore you are an invader into this country.
We need to enforce the laws we already have. So, yes I would deport this guy. I dont care how much good he has done. He has known since 16 that he was illegal, that was plenty of time for him to step in the right direction and become LEGAL.

@ TypicalJerk

first, you should use quotation marks so it doesn`t look like you are saying something when you`re quoting someone.

Second, It is illegal to hire illegals. Businesses do it because it`s profitable so the ONLY way to make it unprofitable is with HUGE fines.

Third, I expect the government to enforce laws already in existance.... you call that whining, I call it a lack of leadership from the government. A failure to do their jobs.

Oh boy. This one is fun.
Illegal aliens aren`t taking your jobs. You`re not going to pick peas or clean your neighbors house.
Plenty of out of work Americans would love to do these jobs, but they aren`t there. Why? Illegals being paid under the table, and getting no benefits for the place they work.
That reasonably priced food you eat may very well have been handled by an illegal but I`d bet the same people that piss and moan about illegal aliens would piss and moan about $15 chickens.
Yeah, about the same as a liberal pissing and moaning about gas prices, but then blocking oil research and exploration, and protesting the building of newer, cleaner refineries.
You cannot just get welfare without proving citizenship. My insurance pays for the uninsured, that goes for illegals and illiterate Americans.
Even if the proof is a stolen SSN or a fake green card? Yep.

illegals are not just dishwasers and crop pickers.
they are house painters and plumbers. Carpenters and landscapers. car salesman and truck drivers. They work in factories and plants.

I have been forced out of 2 careers by *#%@# illegal aliens so I speak with some authority on that topic.

As for not picking peas... when i was in high school a typical summer job was picking strawberries or pinto beans, the largest crops in that area. Unless you could get a job in town doing dishes at the restaurant. Yeah, CITIZENS do pick crops and wash dishes.-

This is what I can not stand the most. YES, I`ve been ousted two jobs by an illegal, BUT I know better than to whine about the illegals, it`s your POS employer taking advantage of the loopholes in our system.
What NEEDS to be done is regulation. Not to mention HUGE fines that would deter this kind of behavior.

Same thing with the pea plucking. You obviously don`t want it that much if you are sitting here whining about it instead of out there doing it.

Here`s a solution check his job if he pays all taxes citizens pay make him one. If not like the vast majority of illegals get him the f**K out we don`t need anymore parasites feeding off our system. Jose pouting like a baby does not get my pity.

madest, I would love to have picking peas or join a cleaning service. Yes, I`m unemployed, but I`m not on welfare, or unemployment, or social security. But I live in an area where there are few jobs. Mainly because of that blowhard Murtha and his basic campaign of "let the government take care of you".

Back to the point, I would love to take a grunt job because it meant I was working.

America is made up of immigrants. The only people that really belong here are the Native Americans.

That being said, the issue we currently have is that people from other countries come here and take advantage of the welfare and healthcare systems. The problem is not the immigrants, the problem is that the system is set up the wrong way and needs to be fixed.

In every industry illegals enter, salaries drop to minimum wage and benefits are eliminated. They force the standard of living down for everyone. A huge percentage {most?} never contribute at all, just soaking up social benefits and resources we cannot afford.

Just gonna throw my two cents in here take citizenship away from ATL1EN because he is a hipster scumbag and can`t spell for dick. 26 is the number I lost count at. Improper caps no apostrophes at all and DREADFUL punctuation further backs up that he needs to have something bad done to him. Because proper punctuation is the deference between "helping your Uncle, Jack, off his horse. And helping your Uncle jack off his horse". Normally I`m not the grammar nazi but reading ATL1EN gave me a giant case off nazism and his citizenship should be given away for slaughtering the english language.

-Canadians have univerasl healthcare
-Canadians on average get paid more and work less a year then Americans
-The US economy is screwed, the Canadian economy isn`t
-I don`t rememebr what else I said.
-I`d rather have an illegal immigrant that is a contributing member of society then a citizen that is on welfare.
-Canadians are living the `American` dream.

Sick of concerning myself with what the dumb people in America think. As I mentioned earlier Reagan`s legacy included amnesty (and tax increases). That fascist left wing loon (hero of all republicans) could never even be nominated into the republican party today.

Actually the more I read about this case the less sympathy I have for this guy. He had opportunities to become a US citizen that would not have been that difficult. Instead he allowed other people to risk their reputations and livelihood to help him. Sorry but I don`t think that is something I could do.
I definitely get more of an attention whore vibe from this guy than anything else. And he has zero credibility as a journalist to me now. You folks that are trying to defend him should do some research before jumping on his band wagon. Maybe find out why the paper he worked for didn`t have enough faith in him to print this story even though he submitted it to them first.
Lastly It`s insulting that he refuses to use the word illegal when referring to himself. And this has nothing to do with the US. All countries have immigration laws and when you break them it`s illegal. Undocumented immigrant to me just wreaks of entitlement.

Illegal is illegal... I don`t see what is so difficult to understand about that? Wrong is wrong, OK he didn`t know, but how about you fix the situation instead of dwelling on it. Whose parents on here wouldn`t have gotten upset at a school from taking away an opportunity to go to Japan because one kid in the class didn`t have his papers?

Naturalization is a process that follows strict rules and guidelines. Do you want government officials picking who has to go through the process and who can skip it?

Fun fact: The american dollar is worth less now then it was 15 years ago because your economy is screwed, much like other parts of the world, and I will stay in Canada, where I have free healthcare when I need it and on average I`ll get paid more.

But... Is his still an illegal alien? or did he get Americanized in the meantime?

What he says is true, but i don`t care if he was a Pulitzer price winner and shot Elmer fudd with a hope-to-be-president.
People who didn`t do all that could also be contributing their share but on a less noticable scale.
And THAT`s where the problem is. How do you decide if the actions of a person are valuable or not?
The person who always minds his own business but is there to shelter me from harm when i need it?
Or the person who works hard and pays a lot of taxes?
What is more valuable? Everyone will have their own thoughts about that so it`s hard to come to a consensus about who may stay or not.

I`m sorry. I call you illegal because that`s what you are. You`re not "undocumented." You`re here against the law. He was only unknowingly breaking the law until 16. After that he was knowingly doing it.

My (adopted) sister was dumped here by her parents, who left her. She was illegal. My parents, who were foster parents, worked hard to get her the right paperwork so she could stay legally. She got a temporary visa so she could stay long enough to get her green card. My father worked hard to get her green card. She eventually became a US Citizen.

I have zero tolerance for illegal aliens. If you`re here illegally, don`t sugar coat it, and call yourself "undocumented." Don`t pretend like you have a right to be here.

Ha, ya you just got emotional swept in to it with all of Jose`s tears though... his story is not typical. The reason we need paperwork requirements is not because of the "Jose`s" out there, but the fact that literally tens of thousands of felons in the US are undocumented, untrackable, and yes... still causing felonies. If they were all "Jose`s" no one would care, but the problem is, they aren`t all good actors who can get on sympathetic infomercials aimed to pass new laws that just raise funds and give positions to new political figures excited to take the seat from others.

Instead of doint the right thing when you found out the truth you done everything you can to go around the system.
I hope they kick this guy out of the country. It makes those of us who put in the effort and money to come to or stay the US legally seem as though we have wasted our time. at 16 he found out the truth, at 27 when the VT shooting happened he was still not legal.. 11 years aint enough time to do the right thing? oh wait hes still not legal and he now 29 so 13 years is still not enough time?
