Deep-seated biases about skin color, particularly dark skinned women, outside of and within the Black American culture.

Don`t worry ladies, there`s enough black men impregnating white women these days, it should even up the lighter skin colors soon. All you beautiful black ladies should jump on the band wagon and hook up with us white guys, and REALLY get the ball rolling. At 44 years old, I`ve only met a handful of african american women interested in white men, compared to black men interested in white women. It`s a shame. Us white guys have alot to offer too.

am saddened that someone else from a multicultural society would have such a negative view towards what is apparently a very serious problem. Yet another canadian who does not represent the majority of us here

I`ve heard racist people talking. From what I`ve heard the main reason why they are racist is because where dark people congregate (live) it is normally dirty and dangerous and the crime is high. I think they associate dark skin with all of those things. Not sure if they all actually care about the color of a persons skin. They just associate things way too often. The only skin I don`t think is beautiful is overly tanned, orange skin, lol.

This baffles me. I recently had a chance to visit another part of the country where the "black" skin tone was on average much darker than it is where I live. I was stunned by the beauty of it, I couldn`t believe just how much more my eye was drawn to it. I openly gawked at times, feeling foolish, but the beauty was almost overpowering to me.

To think that dark skin is less beautiful, just seems so silly.

Of course I also think its just stupid to think that any color skin is "better" than any other as well. I felt almost racist simply because I felt that the darker skinned people I was seeing were so stunning... but I consoled myself with thinking that at least if I were being racist in some manner it was opposite of the normal stereotype.

Hmm - interesting. I am white though - so I can`t completely understand what they are going through. I try and see if I have those same prejudices - and I am sure I do at some level or another as they have become so built into our society.

It`s a sad phenomenon without an easy cure.

But since we developped in societies, and as a people we have adapted and taught to love and respect all other people. Yet some people were taught and are teaching their kids to judge a person by his skin color. The racsim we see displayed is not an instinctive thing, otherwise we would all have it, the racism I usually see is taught.

I do think the words "I am a racist!" and "Nigga" need to stay out of black people`s mouths. Come up with something new and not racist to compliment/insult each other.

Seeing two black people call each other slaves is not my idea of a compliment. However, don`t change the music. I do say the N word when I rap along to a song (if it`s in the lyrics of course, I won`t be singing Master of Puppets saying the N word lol) and seriously...

Creepin` down back streets on deez. I got my glock roostered cuz` nigga`s want these...
I honestly still don`t understand racism.
Since it doesn`t make any sense, you can`t really understand it. You could understand how it happens and you could understand the history of one particular variety of racism that had a big effect in the USA, but that`s not quite the same as really understanding it. It`s like other mental illnesses in that respect. Things that are fundamentally irrational are very difficult to understand, probably impossible to fully understand if you`re not irrational in that way yourself.

If two tribes of apes infringe on each other`s territory there is usually conflict, tribe against tribe. In humans, sight is the dominant sense, so even minor differences in appearance such as skin colour make for very easy tribal identification. It`s primitive ape behaviour. We should be more advanced than that.

I am authentically distrusting of people in general, I see the bad sides before seeing the good, and will dislike them very quickly. I will eventually warm up to people, but it`s usually those people that get me to like them rather than me going to get to know them.

I usually think every new person I meet is a POS who will betray his friends, sleep around on his GF, talk poo behind my back, etc... I think it`s a sign I have lost trust in humanity, but I try my hardest to think people ARE good but fail 3-4 times a day... All church going White Southern US people have NO EXCUSE to be racist. NONE. Treat everyone as you would want to be treated, love your fellow man, how can you drat up the morales and values of your own church for drating racism? It`s so drating retarded.

If I can get over skin color when judging somebody`s personality, I don`t see why everyone else can`t do the same, especially if you`re a so-called "people person".

I honestly still don`t understand racism. I`m scared of a gang of black guys walking towards me in a street, not because they`re black, but because I don`t know what the drat they`re going to do. I would be as scared of a gang of white males, or even Asians, walking towards me if they were as big and intimidating as black guys can be when in groups.

I have never thought of being black as a negative thing, nor do I think they`re dumber. Of course, you hear about a black guy at work who got caught doing anything stupid; DUI, cheating, fighting, and the first thing out of the office`s ignorant douche is something promoting negative stereotypes of black people, not that he is someone like everyone else and makes mistakes. "Dude probably went crazy when he got cut in the line at KFC".

Brilliant. They hit it on the head; this issue goes deeper than skin color or ethnic communities. We as Americans need to FIGHT for a national language to finally unify our people and put an end to barriers based on color, race or creed. We need factors to unify ourselves, not to further separate ourselves and the basic building block of this is a national language. Through this, we can elevate our impoverished and immigrant brethren by giving them the same tools, vocabulary and opportunities to fight against injustice and tyranny. It is time that we become proud of our present and our future instead of dwelling in the past and the problems it has created. It is time for us to move forward together, or to die separately.

Looking at your fellow world-inhabitants, it`s so easy to see the differences in a negative light. But to look for what`s the same or to see the differences as qualities that make the human race so beautiful is as difficult as it is beneficial and nece

I sympathized with their devastation over some of the hurtful comments and painful situations described (especially from their own family.)

I also know that were a conscious effort made to celebrate `black beauty` in this society, all of their white counterparts would leap at the opportunity to bend over and take it while moreover, rather than appearing in a documentary decrying their plight, go about it with enthusiasm in thinking they were doing something noble for the `underprivileged` members of society.

I`m not quite sure how one would go about addressing this. In agreement with many of the other posters here, I did not find most of these women attractive due to their facial features and/or choice of accoutrement, but like dreadqueen pointed out I could definitely stand to ask 1:45 out on a date (though I think 6:08 takes the cake) and even 2:56 might be worthy of consideration, were she a little less burdened by that brow-ridge.

However, as much of this as anything else seems to be about the guys. I don`t know how you can force them to move away from their seeming fascination with our obviously unique and multifaceted ethnic variety, and back toward these members of their own original heritage. It seems like according to the sentiments of this `socially conscious` video, the same argument against interracial coupling which, if made by any white person, would make them the target of relentless racist accusations, equates to a viable avenue when presented in this context.

Am i correct in that in the US, you put your "race" on your drivers licenses?
Seriously, racism is very much alive and the more you point the differences out, like the color of your hair, skin or teeth, the longer it will be around.
I was shocked about the women who talked about their own families and their racist opinions. Isn`t it a problem if darker skinned people themselves want to be lighter skinned? The little girl pointing to pictures is terrifying, where did she get those opinions?

I recently told my sister that I went on a great date with a black guy. She said, "Wow, I would have never expected that. I`m just as surprised as I would be if you said it was a girl."
She followed that up with "But he`s a white black guy, right? Like, he`s a geek or something? Not that I care, I`m just surprised."
When I told her that he`s a game tester for Nintendo, she just laughed and said "I knew it."
And I come from a `liberal` family...

People tend to go for their own race the most, white girls rarely go specifically for blacks/latinos. I`ve seen girls who go for `gangsta` types and naturally gravitate towards black guys because white `gangstas` aren`t as alpha male, and are seen as more pathetic

Why does everything have to be Black or White. In that video I only saw one woman that I found remotely attractive on her apperence, nothing do with her skin colour - The rest were physically repulsive with unattrative features, not an unattractive skin colour. Maybe that is is the problem and not racism/discrimination.

Eye opening to say the least... I personally thought there were some very attractive women in that video. Then again, skin color has ALWAYS been at the lowest of priorities on my list. And for those of you knocking peoples personal preferences in attractiveness by calling it racist... No, it isn`t racist, it again is personal preference. As racist as it might sound.. it`s not. Racism by definition is Racial intolerance, AKA "I hate you because you`re black/white/brown/yellow/purple" etc.

@ChrisMunich Not racist at all, the culture we grow up in, the diversity of people surrounding us is what defines our preferences of attraction. Simply not finding another race attractive does not make it racist. Hating another race is Racist.

Racism by definition is on a sharp decline and has been since the 60`s. I wont go as far as saying it has been eliminated but racial intermingling over the years has taught our youth one simple thing, We are ALL the same inside, and

Because of where I live, I haven`t had a chance to have a black friend since I was in grade 1-3; and I distinctly remember that my well-to-do, beautiful and smart black friend`s family (her family was from Barbados) was quite embarrassed to have me (oh, I was white trash at the time) as a friend. I wish I had a way to tell her and all black women that there are people out there (of all skin tones and races) that do like them, that do think they are beautiful and more!
Oh, and I hate the prejudiced idea that white is smart... Zombieland proved that there are PLENTY of stupid white people out there!!! (Never more embarrassed to be Canadian than when I saw his post).

@GlooStikk: Interesting point, I`m curious if women (or men) that have very dark skin experience this outside of the US as well, I`ve never really thought about it to be honest. It`s also a curious way of looking at a relationships, as starting a relationship with someone because of skin colour doesn`t seem too solid a basis.

@ChrisMunich: it`s not racist to prefer "types" but the point of this vid is that racism is so institutionalized that, across the board, people of all races have this pattern of being turned away by darkness of skin. Like the one woman said- being dark would attract a more sexual type of attention that wouldn`t be inclusive of wanting an "out in the open" relationship.

there is nothing else but to look at ourselves, be honest about what is inside, and do what you think you should do.

@zekumi: I Disagree, Having a personal preference in skin colour for physical attraction is normal. I personally find almost all black women ugly. It`s just not me, that not to say that I treat white women any better, or black women worse. I just wouldn`t want to sleep with most black women.
*Just my opinion.

If a person is not attracted to someone of a race, is that racism? I`ve always wondered about that, because in many ways attraction is not a conscious decision, so the person wouldn`t be trying to be racist, but they`d still prefer one race over the other.

Unless I read that incorrectly, what you just said is racist.

If saying that black women are UGLIER than white women is racist, then in turn saying that black women are more BEAUTIFUL than white women is equally racist. You`re making a statement that declares one woman superior or inferior (in this case, in the aspect of beauty) based on the color of her skin.

@Sprinkz ; `Europeans` didn`t teach Slavery to anyone, sadly it has reared it`s ugly head in almost every culture or civilisation. To some that may be controversial, but I suppose the US and many European nations have a different relation with their pasts. In my experience slavery and( to many extents, but not all) racism are not as big of a deal in the places I`ve lived. Perhaps it`s not given as much attention as it ought to receive, or perhaps it`s not used as an excuse for everything, I don`t know. It does mean that I find it odd that slavery is given so much attention in the US. I`m not trying to downplay the horrible nature of it, but to me it seems healthier to learn to live with the past, instead of letting it segregate the society. Then again, different societies, different problems, so who knows.

And to add, here`s a little story:

In 1st or 2nd grade, having been raised in nearly completely white environments, we had to make posters against racism, and the teacher explained what it was to us... But I kept asking questions because I didn`t understand.

-Racism is when you treat somebody badly because they look different.
-Teacher? We all look different, what do you mean?
-It`s like when you are mean to somebody because he is black.
-What did he do to make me angry?
-Nothing.
-Then why am I mad at him?
-You`re not, you just don`t like him.

The conversation went on, and I clearly remember going home that night and asking my older sister since she had done the same project the year before, and then asked my parents later that night. It took me an additional 4 years before I grasped the concept of racism, as I had moved to Montreal and saw it first hand at the black girl in my class. I had an eureka moment when I saw it.

The bias that a black girl isn`t as pretty as a white girl is completely ridiculous. There are lots of fat nasty bitches that I find just as repulsive whether they are black or white. I have noticed white guys aren`t usually attracted to black chicks, but if you can`t say you find any one of them sexy, then you`re blinded by color. I`ve always been in 90%+ white areas, so I haven`t had the chance to go out with a black girl, and would probably have been scared of talking to her a little bit more than a white girl, not because of the inter-racial aspect, but because a sexy black girl, is so much prettier than a white girl.

Way too many white girls cake on make-up to look pretty. A beautiful black girl doesn`t need as much poo to make me turn around on the the street. Girl at 1:45, goddess.

There are as many ugly black chicks as ugly white chicks is wher eI am getting, and they shouldn`t feel they are ugly because of their skin color.

African Slavery was worse or on par with the Holocaust. The psychological devastation it has left, and the legacy of Liberia (sarcastically of course) is evidence that it is one of the most evil things that humanity has ever done.

Without slavery--would we have had general butt naked and his child cannibal army in Liberia? Or general Tupac, or General Biggie? Or any of this other lunacy there? 50% of the women being raped?

That was all started by sending back our slaves which led them to enslave their own. It`s what they learned from the Europeans. We`ve created a lot of misery in the world. And a lot of black people have to be born into that misery, and that identity, and have to accept it. Because no one can see past it. It`s very hard to notice--but people are more than their parts.

That`s the most racist poo ever. I guess we shouldn`t care about Native Americans either because there are not long-lasting effects of the devastation that was left on them?

You can believe whatever you want but racism is constantly brought up by the black community even if the issue doesnt involve race at all. I brought up the jewish people for a reason, they were slaughtered wholesale, men, women and children. 6 million people killed in the span of 4 years. Dont try to compare African Slavery with that. point 1: jim crow laws. There are people alive today in the US who were drated over/ disenfranchised by the unequal application of laws because of race. There are whole communities that arguable suffer the lasting detrimental effects of this disenfranchisement. They deserve recognition and reparation for having their constitutional rights denied them by various states and localities.

point 2: Acknowledging the suffering of one people does not negate the suffering of another people. EG. acknowledging the horrors and long-standing sociological effects of African slavery does not somehow silence the voice of those who want to call attention to other persecuted ethnic groups, such as Jewish people. You can be horrified by both without disrespecting either, I promise.

point 3: whiteness is a construct that harms white people and people of color alike. I should speak french. I should also speak Celtic and Armenian. But I do not, because the social benefit

Hm, that`s pretty interesting actually. Not something I expect on I-A-B and not what I come here for. But I still liked it.

And obvious troll is obvious.

Not just Hong Kong, Oldfart. Skin whitener`s are huge everywhere. Regardless of what Angillion may perceive, we don`t live in a sterile, logical world. Skin whitening has been common for centuries. And you`re right, this isn`t US slave related, or even african related. It`s a clear cut "When I was three, I learned white is the good guy and black is the bad guy." That`s it.

Sorry your ideal world where something so idiotic can`t exist is here Angillion, but the fact is, this is very much a reality.

I was very surprised to see that one of the biggest cosmetic categories in Hong Kong is skin lighteners. I don`t think this is just a black thing, nor do I think it has anything to do with slavery (the whole house vs. field slave thing). I suspect the preference for lighter skin is common among all human cultures. The real aberration is the relatively recent desire of white people to get tans.

I agreed with you on the confidence point. However I think the point that the vid was making is that it`s hard to develop confidence when everyone seems to be telling you that you are lesser.

The clip of that little girl absolutely broke my heart :(
Does that not reinforce the concept of darker = sexual/dangerous/dirty lighter = motherly/safe/virgin? It does to me.
It doesn`t to me, which isn`t surprising since it`s a concept I hadn`t heard of before you brought it up.

People with pale skin, inaccurately described as "white", damage themselves to darken it because it`s widely associated with illness and general bad health.

Of course, I shouldn`t mention inconvenient truths like that because it conflicts with the approved racist stereotyping of how it`s all a bowl of cherries for "whites" and all a bag of pooe for "blacks", all the time in every way and it can never be any other way. Negative connotations attached to "black" skin are a horror even if they don`t actually exist, but negative connotations attached to "white" skin that do exist are...err..different, yes, it`s different when it happens to them. It always is.

Yeah, silly children`s story`s and all that, but the center idea of being afraid of the dark and feeling safe in the light has been apart of humans for quite some time. It`s no surprise these foundations transfer over to distinctions based on someone`s skin color.
It should be a surprise, because humans really shouldn`t be that stupid.

First step is to stop promoting the completely ludicrous false dichotomy of black and white. Human skin colour is a spectrum, not two discrete points.

My skin isn`t white. Nobody`s is, not even the very small number of people with albinism.

The vast majority of people classed (stupidly) as "black" don`t have skin that is black or even anywhere close to black.

It`s all obviously wrong. Not just morally wrong, but factually wrong.

Sexy is about confidence not skin color.

And why does everything with black people somehow get tied up with slavery? Asians, Europeans and middle easterners were also enslaved at one point. Give it up already.

"Not so true with this generation. All the white girls are going to tanning salons to get as dark as possible."

Does that not reinforce the concept of darker = sexual/dangerous/dirty lighter = motherly/safe/virgin? It does to me. Again, personally I`m down with any and all those aspects in a woman but if I can see that because I may have thought it when I was six, I`m sure plenty of women see it too as they`re sitting on the tanning booth.

The result is mistakes like “deep seeded.” The expression has nothing to do with a feeling being planted deep within one, but instead refers to its being seated firmly within one’s breast: “My aversion to anchovies is deep-seated.”

Really?!?! So many people have problems with so many things, but for people to say how life sucks because they don`t like their skin color... they need to grow up, and get over trying to be beautiful and just live their life.

What people like to ignore, is that tribalism isn`t a black problem. Any time anyone says them vs us, it`s tribalism.

Genocides in Russia, China, Germany? Tribalism.

Complaining about the wrong kind of immigrants? Tribalism.

Making broad generalizations about Africans, whilst ignoring the key elements of tribalism whilst ignoring all of the above? Tribalism.

Of course they`re beautiful and they generally know that, that`s not really the point.

No matter how atheist you are, you can`t deny when you were a kid God = right = white = love and the Devil = wrong = black = hate. I hope it will, because their point is just more racism and trying to get people to feel guilty for having the "wrong" skin colour and thus being of the "wrong" "race", blah blah blah. It`s particularly hypocritical in this thread.

Perhaps it`s just me here, but I fully agree with them on the idea that darker women are seen more sexually while lighter women more motherly. I feel this way across all races. Can`t say why or whether or not I`ll ever change my perspective on this, but I`d wager a large majority of men share this.

second, i agree that racism and white privelege play a SMALL part in this bias. but what people like to ignore is that some people of african descent still have tribalism running deep in their veins. it is in their nature.... a few hundred years out of their home country is not going to take it all out.

You know you could probably make a video about ANY trait that girls have, and find a group of girls who will tell you how that trait has made them feel incredibly insecure about themselves, and how other people have made those girls feel insecure about that trait.

Would be neat to know if black girls had similar issues in Europe too. The reasoning seemed to be because of slavery in the US there still is a separation going on.
But my sister had a similar experience as a child when we lived in Turkey. She came back from school one day and said she wanted a darker skin, black hair and become a muslim. Not because people were teasing us for being light-skinned and blond-haired. Quite the opposite, they where fascinated by it and told us it was beautiful: It`s just being different, and not in a good way but in a blatant way.
One of the first question always where "Where are you from?" "Germany." "So you`re a christian" "Yes." <Some prejudice or misinformation here>. The smarter people moved on without asking too much or being genuinely interested, others just wanted to make us muslims.
Maybe it`s harder for girls. But tbh I`m more attracted to light-skinned girls. I thought people are more oft

Also did anyone see what martin lawrence looks like as a female.

And wtf is up with the blonde hair, green eyes white girl complaining about. she is what maybe 1/16 black. just enough to be able to claim something like indians and casinos.
