this crap happened in my stupid hometown. bottom line is:
YES- she was stupidly arrested and it was incorrect.
NO- you do not deserve anything special for that.
YES- you or i would have been arrested or at least deserved an ass-kicking if we broke out faggy pink rulers to prove our point, like the cops did.
NO- you do not get anything else but a "sorry you got arrested" for all of your troubles.
YES- cops made themselves look foolish after the fact.
NO- nobody should be suspended/fired.
and if you, EMILY GOOD, are STILL complaining about being arrested just be glad you didn`t get called for dratING JURY DUTY.

also, thanks to i-a-b for killing it all the time. nice work. you are a valuable ally in my weekly info gathering.

It should never be illegal to video tape a public servant performing their job, unless that job is of a classified nature, the video taping compromises national security, or compromises the safety of the public servant involved.

Time and time again cases of police misconduct are only brought to light due to video evidence captured by an outside bystander.

Police aren`t evil, nor are they modern "brown shirts", but due to their accepted responsibilities to uphold the law, they must be accountable for their actions, and if those actions are criminal, or outside the boundaries of their authority, then this must be addressed.

A mistake by the arresting officer? Yes, absolutely.

@xCYBERDYNEx

So let me just clarify to make sure I understand your position: you are saying that a t-shirt saying "food not bombs", which I understand to mean that we should be providing food for people instead of blowing them up with bombs, is a bad thing?

You are quite happy to say that you consider the public expression of an opinion that feeding people is better than blowing them up is "douchey"?

Haven`t been searched one time since I`m 16. Don`t know anyone else who has either.

Seems like a joke to call America the land of the free. I feel that police oppression is rampant. You can`t travel anywhere without having to deal with the distinct possibility of being searched. It`s not just planes either.

No... I just spout information that scum should not leach on those who actually make the world work. If you are so damn stupid that you cant get a job or do anything that actually helps improve the world, dont think those who do should be forced to support your eating and pooping.

No, @AJ, they asked her to move off the sidewalk (which is illegal to do, she has every right to stand on the sidewalk, eh?) and she DID SO!
THEN he placed the suspect in the back of a cruiser and attacked her. Sickening.

OMG! I`m agreeing with Dr.Professor and Musuko42! & Steelgrid too! Aaaa! (lolz)

(Just goes to show I personally am NOT a (fill in the blank))

YES! The Police MUST control the populous! Arest and detain ANY who oppose you! Civil rights? Human rights? They mean NOTHING if you feel "threatened" in any way! You are the Thin Blue Line and must never bend!

Police are taught to have control over any given situation. If one challenges that control by not compliance to any order,no matter how illegal that order is,you`d be a fool if you don`t expect them to arrest you.
This woman says she studied peace and justice, along with community health. Is peace and justice a curriculum?I can see community health-barely.While she was within her rights, she comes off as something of an ditz.

You dont like it? Take your ass to North Korea or China. The you can be free to live in oppression and fear of the cops while we "[email protected]@@ing entitled liberals... Blab Blah Blah" enjoy our freedoms and the right to protect them.

I say we all pitch in and send this douche to one of those countries, say for 3 months, like an exchange student.....Only we are exchanging douchbags.

Those cops had no business telling her to go inside. Sure, she might have said somethings before filming, but ignore it and go on with your job. As the person in authority it is better to be the "bigger person", as they say.

I wish the right to film cops would come before the supreme court, if it hasn`t already. I don`t see how it could be any less constitutionally legit than speeding cameras...

"Hmmm, Lady should have been charged. On her own property, yes, but, she could have filmed from inside rather than making a deliberate scene. We have the freedom of speech, but, we have to use it in a respectful way to those who protect us. "

A deliberate scene? No this woman`s actions are the culmination of years of police atrocities. its not about freedom of speech, its not about making a scene, its about exposing the "God-Complex" police officers that do nothing except piss people off. They arrest the wrong people, they plant evidence, they think everything should be private when you rare a PUBLIC SERVANT!!!!! Remember that? Its on the side of your goddamn car..."TO SERVE AND PROTECT" not to "Contain and Harass" which is EXACTLY why they arrested her and her supporters.

Good on her, we need to be taking the cops more anyway. They tape us all the time, time to turn the lens.

Standing up for your rights is being "entitled"?

Technically, you`re correct, but not in the derogatory sense that you mean it.

@xCYBERDYNEx

"it`s obvious that this b*tch is a complete douche. Look at her T shirt for f*cks sake!"

Are we looking at the same video? In what reality is the statement "food not bombs" a douchey statement?

I hope she gets cashed out for this.. why should she have to get in her house just cause a cop says so.. she did nothing wrong.. If you had to do whatever a cop tells you they would be even worse then they already are.

Okay, I can appreciate the fact that she has a right to film them from her own yard, but here`s what I have a problem with.

First, she didn`t start filming the moment she went outside. She started poo, went in and got her camera, and baited them.

Secondly, they asked her NICELY to return to her home. I would have complied. NOT because I am some sheepy wuss, but because I have the sense to realize that THEY are the ones dealing with a situation I may no nothing about, and in their judgement, I MAY BE IN DANGER (which is why they asked her to go inside) or I may, with my constant barrage of smartassed inquiries and pointed baiting remarks, be interfering with official police business, which is a crime, and would get me arrested.

That said, Yay for her. She got off. BFD!

Meh, good thing the charges were dismissed.

AuburnJunky: Cops are not Gods, they are people who have been given an excss of power over the citizens they have been made to protect. This power is often abused, leading to brutality and unjust arrests. If all Police did their jobs properly and professionally, they would have no problem being filmed, and these recurring videos would not keep surfacing on the internet.

A police is not a walking talking judge, nor is it a ticket/fine dispenser. A police Officer is purely someone who will put himself in harm`s way to protect the citizens from any situation that may come up.

@AJ, The charges were dropped because the video showed there was no risk to anyone`s safety. Doesn`t matter anyway, she was on her own property. She can film a rats ass there if she wants to. I`m shocked that you`re such wuss when it comes to authority. The government loves spineless patsy`s like you.

I tell you the lawsuit is coming now. Stupid cops just don`t care and get it. I would have fired the retards. as it`s going to cost the taxpayers money to defend them alone. When all they had to do was not give a crap about Emily video taping. The lack of common sense is just frankly appalling. Unless the cops did have an agenda and resented being taped hmmm?

@BrittanyBear Just so you know cos you are new and I thought the same thing when I was new, the people here aren`t using `drating` on purpose, they are swearing and there is a filter changing them - you will see the word `poo` used a lot as well which has replaced another well known swear word.

That is excellent. I wouldn`t be surprised if at some point in the near future we see new laws over this subject though. I think more and more people are standing up over the issue because it is literally the only solid defense citizens have against police misconduct.
