York has ridiculous crime, a big need for police officers, and an abundance of idiots who can`t pay meters or not park in a loading zone.

cops have zones that they work in. They might be help up at a "my cat`s lost" call on the either side of their zone and then that lady calls because her husband bet the s out of her. she is no longer in imminent danger and in a semi secure location. the calls are dispatched to all available officers. Say you have an officer at your house for what you might think is important. You are doing paperwork and telling your side so something could be done then, the officer that you have at your house gets dispatched to a chick who is at a store, who`s husband beat the s out of her, but is now safe at a different location. I, as an officer (im not actually one) am going to say, "you are not as important because somewhere else someone also needs my help" and i leave you. Is that what the officer should do? what the hell do you think officers do all day? if everyone is so held bent on what officers do, call up your local police stataion or sheriff`s office and schedule a ride-

I guess people dont realize why cops gets held up at calls. people call for: my neighbor`s grass clippings are on my side of the lawn and i want him and the grass clipping trespassed, my bush has been stolen, my ex-husband is teaching my child to hate me, someone is stalking me on FB.

There are Patrol Units and Traffic Units. Your traffic unit will be giving the tickets out most of the time. Patrol Units go to your house, deliver your baby, first responders, save your life, chase a bankrobber and only if he has time and sees a moving violation will write you a ticket.

"So, it either took and officer 65 minutes to go 300 yards, or they were more concerned with hitting ticket quotas.

Just sayin` this guy kinda has a point.
"

Nooooo, if the woman did NOT call 911, then they dispatched a deputy. Those types of calls are incredibly common and in a slow day can have the available amount of deputies running eveywhere. Yes this can range from anything as simple as getting a cat out of a tree to a call that some girl is afraid of her boyfriend.

Seriously, consider what really goes on.

It doesnt really matter if you are a tax payer or not. If you have broken the law and got caught, then you get a ticket. it is as simple as that. Its not like the cop can be like "This dude ran a stop sign, but somewhere out there a bigger crime is being commited, but this dude could have killed someone or caused a crashed due to his negligence"

...Suddenly your little crime of running that stop sign doesnt seem so small does it..

This is kind of funny and relevant. Today, pregnant woman walked into my store crying. She asked to use the phone to call the police. I assume her spouse (¿baby daddy?) had hit her. She waited for 45 minutes, then left shortly after her boyfriend came by to harass her.

The police showed up 20 minutes later looking for her. That`s a 65 minute response time. On my way to the store this morning, I noticed the police running a speed-trap on IH-35 not 300 yards from my store, as they often do.

So, it either took and officer 65 minutes to go 300 yards, or they were more concerned with hitting ticket quotas.

Just sayin` this guy kinda has a point.

It seems to me that this particular type of argument makes the assumption that cops get paid commission. Is this the case?

True enough. Too many cops sitting in rich neighborhoods ticketing because they have the money to pay. Meanwhile, poor neighborhoods have little to no police presence and become crime ridden as a result.

@aliyahg

I think if you killed someone you would get a little more than a ticket. I think that`s what tickets are SUPPOSED to be for, but I don`t think that`s what it is used for. Now it`s used just so the state can suck more money out of you.

p.s. FYI: ALL COPS ARE PIGS!

that is all

@NottaSpy: +1 to you, good Sir! :-)

See, it`s kind of easy to figure out that, a) there will always be crime, b) cops will mostly do their best to fix it, but, referring to the first rule, we know they won`t ever *totally* be able to get there, and, c) if you provoke the cops, especially with wild and crazy accusations that speak to their job performance and honor and dignity, they just might eventually find probable cause to (figuratively) insert a night stick WAY up into your nether regions. I`m thinking this guy is almost there...

riiiiggghhhtttt..... so next time you do 80 in a 55 and hit someone or lose control on a turn by speeding, or... run a stop sign and kill someone that is when you`ll get the hint! duh! the tickets are there to teach you to slow the f down or follow basic traffic laws made FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY. as everyone already knows tat if they write you, the tax payer a ticket for speeding in your city they will win a brand new shiny toaster. cuz that is why they do it you know... for the toasters...
