"...Juvenile Diabetes is TYPE 1 DIABETES. Which is not at all caused by eating crap food or soda. It`s a failure of the pancreas due to all sorts of different reasons. (I myself have Type 1 Diabetes.) Type 2 Diabetes is caused by obesity and eating crap. So what you said is stupid.
But anyways.. whatever. :P"

^TRUE DAT BRO. I`m pretty surprised so few people have realized this. >.<

As a Type 1 Diabetic myself, I always find it INCREDIBLY irritating when people fail to know the difference and just make the word "diabetes" synonymous with "OBESE LOLOL" when, in fact, that`s not the case with Type 1.

Personally, I`m nowhere near "obese," and very few Type 1 diabetics I know are, either.

IN SHORT: I highly recommend you get your facts straight before making comments that are not only offensive, but completely untrue as well.

This is a good idea. I also think that cigarettes, instead of being taxed about 3$/pack because of the countries insensitivity to smokers, and the fact that we arent going to quit no matter how much they tax it, we just may start to steal them, perhaps the U.S. Govt should add 1$ to the price that goes straight to lung cancer research, this is something every smoker can stand behind, right?

I`m kinda tired of this "America, This is why your fat" I live in West Michigan and I rarely see people who are more than 25-30lbs overweight. Same goes for when I lived in Arizona and North Carolina.

"the whole world is getting fatter, stop picking on us"

Maybe so, but only because fat people convince themselves that being fat is normal. And don`t feed me that whole `I diet and exercise and can`t lose weight` bullpoo either. I have 17 employees at my job and I`m the minority. Why? because I exercise. Because my resting heart rate is lower than some of my co-workers BMI`s. It`s not so much the US(world) is getting fat it`s just that everyone`s just a lazy ass.

"The whole world is getting fatter"

Not sure about that one. People in Haiti were eating clay just to keep their stomachs open. Clay! I ate some of that poo in nursery once and it tasted like crap, and that`s the stuff they make all sanitized for the kids. And those people are eating it! In their stomachs! Don`t think people are getting fatter, it just seems that way because they`ve started putting more fatties on TV because it`s becoming the Western average, and people want to see people like themselves on TV. That`s why I wish they`d brind Worzel Gummidge back, I don`t feel skinny, pasty skinned, big nosed gingers have enough representation.

How much is a mega jug? A liter? Must be that tops.

And they want three bucks for it? I laugh at that. You can get a 2L bottle for half of that at costco.

Gothmo, there`s two kinds of diabetees, type 1 and type 2. They are practically unrelated. Type one is genetic, you`re born with it, and if you eat too much OR too little sugar you`ll have a goddamn seizure. People with type 1 often NEED to have high amounts of sugar. People with type 2 need only to cut back sugar and it`s much more common as a result of being fat.

Thank for that deeply retarded comment. I forgot that people who smoke (including me, I hasten to add), don`t do it in public. Also, a toothbrush? Really? Even if I was English I wouldn`t be offended. Must try harder.

Unless you were being clever, in which case I salute you. Sheesh, after all these years, it`s still hard to tell over the internet...

Therefore, the more people that have diabetes, the more people will care about it, and more funds will be available for research. Brilliant.

Luke - how is it the governments fault that KFC has large sodas cheaper than smalls? If you so want, buy the cheaper one, and don`t drink it all....

THAT is the problem with us Americans. Its never "our fault." I`ll just push the blame on someone else.

simbha: As I noted before, Type 1 diabetes although named `juvenile diabetes` means the child was born with the disease, It`s a genetic cause not environmental.

In fact some people have the genes for type 1 diabetes and it didn`t surface til they became teens or adults. As there are children that get type 2 diabetes as well.

0
Reply
Male 51
@Crakr: Not Quite. You`re not born with type 1 either, but it`s true that it has nothing to do with what you eat or how much you weigh, as opposed to type 2.

Nowadays it`s kinda pointless calling them juvenile/adult diabetes. I wouldn`t be surprised if there are now more fat kids/juveniles with type 2 diabetes than unlucky ones who got type 1.
0
Reply
Male 416
CrakrJak: While Type 2 diabetes is far more common in adults, its incidence rate amongst children is rising. This is strongly correlated with the rise in childhood obesity rates.

Yeah, JDRF stands for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Juvenile diabetes is known as type 1, meaning people with it were born with diabetes, Type 2 is known as adult onset diabetes. So the $1 helps find a cure to prevent kids from being born with diabetes that has nothing to do with soda or being fat.
