Why You So Racist, Mattel? [Pic]

Submitted by: orange_panty 5 years ago Misc

Not too long ago, Mattel introduced the world to the Barbie. As you can guess, this Barbie was pulled from the shelves.

@Steelgrid "Black History Month, Asian History, Mexican History....Cool.... White history month is RACIST!!!!"

Really? Every month is White History Month, even when they`re called "Black, Asian, Latino, etc. History Months". History as a field itself is biased towards white history in the U.S. because we`re a white centrist society... but wake up. The "minority" groups are growing and soon whites will be the minority.

Meaning that in the future, there just may be one month of the year dedicated to White History only.

But for now, even the "minority" history months are chalk full of white history as well, as we`re inexorably connected in this country. ANY history--regardless of any cultural biases--can teach us ALL about ourselves and our other brothers and sisters.

There is no white history month, not because it would be racist, but because all 12 months are white history months. That`s the bottom line. I like

"In the African-American community, when a black person does something considered "White" (Doing good in school; going to a museum; ect.), they are called an Oreo, Black in the outside, white in the inside. Stupid, I know, but sadly, true."

@Steelgrid,

I wont even copy what you said and put it in this post because of the immense ignorance that radiates from it.

You posted against racism, and then you profile against republicans? Really? You`re just as bad as a racist. Saying that one side of the political spectrum has members that are all the same is the exact same as saying all white/black people are the same. For being 30-39, you`re pretty uneducated.

i think people like you that think different colors should STAY different should be shot. Although, that would compltly kill off our Republican side of the Government wouldnt it.

@redelle: Thanks for your explanation. We have a similar term in the Netherlands: bounty (yup, like the chocolate bar. Stupid, I know)

OP is trying to spur a racial debate. I won`t bite. It`s also stupid because this so-called scandal happened back in 1997.

@Neoptolemos
In australia and I believe many other countries if an aboriginal/African-Amercian etc. doesn`t do the stereotypical Aboriginal/African-American thing people of their own creed sometimes call them a Oreo/Coconut/Kinder Surprise because they`re black on the outside white on the inside. For Example in many Aboriginal communities if an aboriginal actually gets a job or strive to work/study often the aboriginals in the community will critize them calling them a coconut for example because they don`t conform to the whole on the dole thing, or they ask that particular person for money as they are their brother or sister (even though they are not blood related) Its really sad I grew up in a community like this, a best mate who was aboriginal got called it regularly because she always came top in class.

the thing about racism is it exists only because people let it, on both sides of the fence. If people start seeing it for ignorance, which is what it truly is then racism and its other form reverse-racism will finally cease to be.

No, he`d be a "wannabe".
Or nowadays we`d just call him typical as all the white kids want to talk and act black.

Know what bothers me about this? Why the hell is any kind of Barbie doll dressed up in an oreo-themed costume? Where is the logic in this, except to sell oreos? Did some one seriously think kids wanted an oreo-themed barbie at all?

What kid would specifically ask for an oreo brand barbie? Racism aside, this endeavor seemed doomed to failure.

Come people. It`s not hard to figure out.
`Oreo` is not just a mixed-race 3-way.

In the 70`s an `Oreo` was away for one black guy to insult another. Black on the outside but white on the inside. Meaning they had abandoned their culture and were the stooge of "the white man".

Famous Oreos are Dianne Carroll and Sammy Davis, Jr., and my favorite Carlton!

shizzamX,

"Oreo" is slang for a black person who is "black on the outside, but acts white on the inside". Or in other words - someone who wants to fit into the white community by not acting like a "black person should" according to the black community.

Don`t put the Oreo with the white Barbie either. White cream filling + white barbie = instant racism. As a matter of fact, Don`t including anything with any toy. Black Barbie with a notebook; White pages = racist. White Barbie with pink shirt with a white stripe = racist. Liberals should burn

Why don`t they mix all the white doll plastic and the black doll plastic into one `shut the f-ck up, whiny liberal` color and make ALL dolls out of it?

... I personally know there was a "white" Barbie version of this, so... how again is this racist? Wouldn`t it be "racist" to not include her? What about all the oreo-eating,dark skinned girls that like their dolls to look like them? Are they racist for wanting it? WHEN DOES IT EVER STOP?

there`s also a white barbie version, with
the exact same outfit.

It`s only racism if you choose to see it.
