Talibans cannot afford the technology, they aren`t government sponsored, except for the US government many years ago...oops

The people we don`t want with that information are Iran, Korea, China and Russia, you know countries with significant militaries.

I doubt that the Taliban can do anything significant with that information.

Well, since we`ve listed all of it`s relevant data (which can no doubt be found elsewhere, thanks BM) why don`t we just put the uplink/downlink freqs and crypto that it uses as well so Tommy Taliban can come up with a countermeasure?

I didn`t get my numbers from wiki; I remembered those numbers from somewhere else.

60 Million Allied losses, 12 Million Axis.

Wikipedia has pretty good numbers. 45 Mil Civilian Allied casualties, 16 Mil Military..

Whereas we killed 8 million Military and 4 Mil Civilian... And somehow we won.

Many people want to live in a world without conflict. But as long as their is evil in the hearts of men, their will always be conflict.

60 million people died in WWII; any conflicts that we engage in now could be a way from stopping WWIII from starting.

The F-22 Raptor is beig replaced by the F-35 Lightning. The F-35 costs even more.

@Scuzoid I don`t understand how drones are not cost-effective. Drones can not do all the types of missions that manned aircrafts can, but drones are definitely able to do many of the missions that manned aircraft can. The U.S. government saves a lot of money by using drones when they can. Sending a drone in to do the job of a manned aircraft is something we try to avoid.

Besides, if drones weren`t cost-effective, why would we continue to use them?

Ok so lets play a chess match to solve conflicts. This is the cheaper and safest solution.

Still cheaper than buying a single F-22. Don`t forget that the F-22 is so expensive and they don`t want to risk losing one in enemy territory so bad, that they don`t use them to their full potential in a theater of war.

Electronic Counter Counter Measures

@Angry_Youth : Being able to type coherent sentences and choosing not is what bugs me about bad spellers. Complete retards, I let them get away with it.

"This is false. If we`re comparing manufacturing, operational, and maintenance costs of raptors to hornets, sure, but raptors are nothing like existing fixed wing jets."

RQ-1 / MQ-1 Predator Unit cost ~ $4.5 million
F-22 Raptor Unit cost US$150 million

Add to that that the maintenance is super cheap, many if not all the parts easily swapped, and that you can afford to have 15 taken out without a single friendly casualty, and still being cheaper t

that`s my dream, but that would mean no need to fight ether, because it`s only robots and yeah China, Japan and Korea would hold the balls of the rest of the world since they are the one actually producing the parts :P

see this video, I don`t know if it was posted here, but it`s a beautiful song.

"Drones are extremely cost effective. A drone is much cheaper to acquire and to operate than a manned aircraft."

This is false. If we`re comparing manufacturing, operational, and maintenance costs of raptors to hornets, sure, but raptors are nothing like existing fixed wing jets. They`re essentially helicopters. They`re slow as piss and easily taken out with SAM`s. Comparing them to black hawk`s, and the singular, albeit substantial, benefit in using one for a mission a black hawk could`ve performed is the lack of service member risk.

@LazyMe484 You can not confirm that there are no existing threats to the national security of the United States. Additionally, a standing army is a deterrent against aggression from others.

I love how you pretend to know about things that you know nothing about.

Drones are extremely cost effective. A drone is much cheaper to acquire and to operate than a manned aircraft. It also costs over a million dollars to train a pilot to fly manned aircraft. The usage of drones is an effort to save money.

P.S. You can learn a lot about a person by the way they write. I`m not just referring to the content of what they say; I`m also referring to how well they write. Your sentence structure and grammar are pathetic.

If English isn`t your first language, this is forgivable. However, if English is your first language, you should be ashamed. When people want what they say to be taken seriously, they articulate what they are saying well.

First off... war is bad, no matter what.

Next, America you spend way too much on your military, and I mean waaay too much. There exists no threat to you existing, potential or theoretical great enough to justify the expense.

Having said that, I highly approve of this unmanned warfare, drones and the like. It is a great leap forward to be able to fight and win wars without ever risking the lives of actual people. It points to a bright future where in wars just don`t happen or they happen at a purely automated level where the first one to run out of unmanned drones surrenders as to not endanger actual people.

And what a devastating effect this could have on underdeveloped extremist militants! To think that not only are you outgunned and outnumbered, you never actually get to fight the enemy.

If there was a movement to turn all armed forces into robots, I would be behind it in a heartbeat.

Oldfrt what you say can be right but who is the good guy, who is the bad guy? Who decide that? And what happen if the supposed bad guy take control of this toy? And if all start to have this toy in the hands?.........Skynet?

@piperfawn, I await your unleashed wrath with anticipation. :-)

Maybe you are looking at this from the wrong perspective. If it is easy to target and kill bad guys with limited risks, maybe the bad guys will think twice before doing bad things. It`s not just the ability to wage war from a distance, it`s also the ability to be more accurate. If the bad guys feel like they have a target on their backs, they will be motivated to be not so bad, hopefully avoiding a larger conflict with more widespread death and destruction. I would hope that anyone immature enough to say "Look, a cool gun! Let`s go shoot someone" would not be in a position of power to be able to do so.

I`m by no means an expert, but generally when you program something you make sure all errors are addressed appropriately. IE: an error would occur if the drone lost connection and an appropriate action would take place to recover the drone. Everything is hackable, obviously, but I doubt many people (if any) could do it in the time necessary to take control of it.

@Oldfrt

Allow me to kidding a bit....
I`m just waiting that anti piperfawn bandwagon is full to unchain my drone and bomb you all from my desk.XD
In any case beyond a rifle or a spear in battlefield there is allways a man,who control the drone is not in the battlefield. I think that this kind of military equipment can only create more wars cause if we get used to remote control war will be more easy for us to accept and spread wars.Far from the eyes far from the heart.
@Batmanners i`ve ever sad that terrorists are not cowards?

Drones. I wonder how long it will take some innovative desperate people to make a ecm or some kind of jamming device... to disable the device. One could always use the independance day way, but that would require a mac, a virus AND a captured UFO... but jamming? Could it be done?

RdDan-You know what else does? A knife. It`s not the weapon you use, it`s the accuracy and discretion with which you use it.

piperfawn- War isn`t meant to be a competition to show who`s got the biggest balls, it`s meant to stop your enemy from killing your guys or the people you`re protecting.

This thing is nothing compared to the Boeing Phantom Ray stealth attack drone. Capable of Mach 0.8, has a ceiling of 40,000`, and an operational range of 1,200 miles. Also, it can do everything from taxiing, takeoff, mission, and landing without a human interface; just plug in what it needs to attack and away it goes.

Go ahead and join the army and go rushing at an unseen enemy with a sword, since you seem like one of those kinds of people.. hope you had a nice life. If you already were in the military, I`m assuming you fired a gun. COWARD, you were attempting to kill something by pressing a trigger. Why didn`t you go punch it to death? Oh that`s right, because you`re a pussy by your own logic.

Just to jump on the [email protected] bandwagon:

So when they invented rifles that could kill at a distance, were they used by cowards? When they invented spears that could reach longer than a man`s arm, were they used by cowards?

You could say that we have a VERY long tradition of increasing our coward quotient, but I would say we are making it safer for our own soldiers. The purpose of war is not to earn bravery points. It`s to kill people and break things, so that bad stuff will stop happening.

I`m not 100% sure if it can be controlled by an AWACS actually (the drone) but I am pretty sure JSTARS can. I could be wrong, it`s all USAF stuff that they don`t like to tell me because I`m Canadian, and don`t have a need to know.

A lot of technical mumbo-jumbo... but Link 16 give the military (Land, Sea and Air) to coordinate all data across secure means in a theatre of war. It is EXCELLENT for accurate situational awareness and planning.

Basically, say a Navy F-18 off an aircraft carrier sees 3 planes in the distance, well he has the ability to display those three targets to everybody on the link, and if a radar (TPS-70 Mobile radar) sees targets that the plane cannot, it can display the target to the plane. There are thousands better examples, I`m sure, but this is a very basic one.

Link 16

I give the Wikipedia entry, because I am 100% sure I know stuff about this I shouldn`t say, and I am not 100% sure what it is I shouldn`t say (usually only specifics, but better safe than sorry)

Could anyone guess that this is part of my job?

"So this just mean that now war is done by "cowards" that kill people with a remote control. Really no honour."

Yes, we`re the cowards who strap bombs to kids and have them kill the soldiers who give them water. We`re also the cowards that put IED`s on roads and landmines all over the place just in case a soldier should happen upon it. We`re also the cowards that kill thousands of civilians by crashing hijacked planes into skyscrapers to make a religious point...

If you`re volunteering to actually go, on foot, to the places this drone has the ability to go, and then destroy it as effectively as the drone and return home, then I believe you simply have a death wish.

The data a drone has the ability to get for soldiers on the ground is outstanding. Even better? It can be controlled by someone in an AWACS.. a plane flown by a plane... who`d a thunk it?
