I am not looking forward to having to move from base to base every few years.

If you just broke up with your significant other and you are friends with The Oatmeal, you`d better be prepared to pay the full going rate for a psychologist if you want any consolation from him. Friendship alone is not worth his while.

On Saturday I`m moving into a 3 flat walkup to a (surprise!) 3 flat walkup. I have 1 friend to help. I like moving... I think it`s fun, and a great workout. Trolls dolls are sweet too.

This is funny.

However, while the person who created it understands friendship and banter, she does not understand the value of a beer.

It may cost $3.99 to buy, but at the end of a day of hard graft, (i.e. mercilessly ribbing your friend about their naff possessions), that beer is beyond value.

@phoneybone
can`t you just do it to help out, do you really need something in return?

This is awesome, since I`m supposed to help my friend move tomorrow. Conveniently, my parking brake seized on my truck!

The note being packed part and the 100 pound boxes are the worst. If you`re going to ask someone to help I think you should at least try to make it easy for them. Also, Ikea furniture FLAT PACKS so you should really consider taking it apart before moving.

ha the last two times I help anybody move was my brother, it was only his prized fish tank and fish.

Moving made easy one thing, on one trip. Everything else was done by/with movers.

Lol... I have helped people move and can seriously relate to this. I myself am moving next month and have decided if doesn`t fit in my car it`s not coming with me.

I`ve decided not to move again until 1) I can afford 2 Men and a Truck and 2) I`m moving into something I`m buying. Until then, I live here. With every book I`ve ever read on my Ikea bookshelves.

Hate moving, hate asking help for it. Last time I moved, I tried to sell my unused stuff and gave something still usable to charity (no, it didn`t make me feel better than everybody else, but I got to get rid of the stuff) so I wouldn`t have that much to carry. Btw, can you get rid of things that should have meaning to you, because someone gave it to you, but you never use it anyway? I have hard time deciding so I just kept it....

Awesome post is totally true

I disagree with just about all of it except the organizing part. Organize your own crap into boxes by the time I get there. :) Oh, and help pay for gas.

I just moved. From the 3rd floor. Without and elevator. After 9 months. Had furniture worse than Ikea and packed almost exclusively in trash bags. However. I threw out the furniture (still had to haul it down the stairs). And moved 90% of it by myself.

Iam in the middle of moving actually, however Iam either giving my stuff away, burning or throwing it out...and whatever is left is going in a storage bin...a person really doesn`t know how much crap they have until they start puting it all in boxes.. :-)

Must not really be friends hah... I used to help my friends clean their rooms and they`d help me, we made it fun, especially when we found old things we forgot we had haha. Plus, there`s nothing wrong with keeping books, you just put them in suitcases with wheels ;P

If you`re friends, you help move, even if it`s not fun. Friends help each other when help is needed. It`s not nice to make your friend help you pack, but people sometimes screw up.

"I`m busy". Two words that would save him having to help his friend move and save me from reading any of this huge bitchfest, seriously if this is a man he needs to drink a tall glass of cement.

I would rather move Ikea than the GOOD furniture that my friends favor. It weighs a lot less than solid hardwood.

@nick, as long as your the complete opposite of this list, as in you tell the whole truth, are neatly packed already, and arnt worried in case 1 or 2 things breaks, then you shouldnt have any guilt at all, just be grateful if anyone IS willing to help you

So true, although riding in the back of a pick-up half-drunk, lying on top of a vomit stained mattress isn`t such a bad time really. Just make sure that he/she is cool with you throwing a party and trashing their bitchin` new apartment once the place gets all set-up and looking sweet.
