as someone who studies vibration and control at university, iv seen lots of this sort of thing before and it can create such awesome stuff :D has anyone else seen the dancing pendulum one? i think thats my favourite, its got a man in the shape of a cross on the end of a long string and it bounces up and down and then twists round and round and then stops and then repeats the whole cycle.

Cool way to take advantage of a relatively simple physical equation! The time it takes for each pendulum to complete a swing is directly related to the length of the string, i.e. the balls at the long end take a little longer to swing than each one before it.

Centripital force. In this case, since they`re all the same mass, the shorter string means a shorter swing time.
