Sometimes, The Graffiti Should Just Stay Up [Pic]

Especially if the graffiti is more like a mural. Otherwise, the people revolt.

I`m sure the artist was aware it wasn`t permanent when they did the piece.

Still, I`d be sad to see it go. It was pretty nice work if you ask me. :P

end of the day, it`s not the artists wall and stuff thats on it is not permanent. Thats the nature of graffiti.

If you don`t like that element then paint your work on a canvas and hang it on a wall.

@taylor_stone That makes no sense at all. If your a professional artist - someone who was contracted to do a painting - then whatever subsequent owners decide to do with the piece is their business. You`ve already been compensated and have no claim to ownership! Besides the person who painted it should have known that they didn`t own the wall and something along these lines could happen to it. I certainly don`t blame the new owner for not necessarily wanting a slutty Alice in Wonderland painted on their home/business, whether it is "art" or not.

"I find it stupid to bitch about the lost art on a wall/canvas the artist never owned in the first place. Graffiti is not permanent, nor should it be, that is the very nature of it."

well spoken.reminds me of the Tibetan Buddhist and sand mandalas.takes a week to make them, and when they are done, they sweep them away to remind themselves of the impermanent state of all existence.

Normally, were it genuinely graffiti, I`d agree with you. But the art in the top pic is in the graffiti STYLE, but is obviously a contracted piece of artwork requested by the original owner of the building, or the latest leasee... It isn`t something some random kid with a few cans of spray paint did overnight to piss off the community... This was a well thought out piece or art, so the artist DOES have a right to bitch when the new owner/leasee decides to paint over his work because it was something he put genuine hard work and planning into at the request of the previous owner...

What an odd concept. That somebody should be allowed to do what they want to with something they own.

Nice art, but as evidenced by the `For Lease` sign the owners of the building decided to paint over it, Which is their right to do.

Beautiful. I think that pieces like this should automatically qualify for a full job at the municipal community, decorating and maintaining all the city`s white and grey world.

But somehow, it seems that the people working there have a certain affection for white, grey and dirty. An much less affection for color and art.

They make a good point. A wall covered in graffiti is usually one helluva lot better looking than the more-often-than-not concrete or plain wall it covers. Plus, if it`s in a "tagger" neighbourhood, the tags aren`t as visible, and some will probably be discouraged if they either have to tag something elsewhere, or tag artwork. OK, so that last point was vague, but graffiti on most walls where it occurs is an improvement.

This was not done in the dark, it is most likely a mural done. The building was under for sale in the second so they probably painted it to sell it. Probably a tattoo parlor.

I despise tagging, but am amazed at what some people can do with a sack of spray cans, and usually in the dark.

@Buck176 When one is defacing it with art, then it`s art.

I like Rome. It has a ton of graffiti everywhere, most of it looks really cool, and adds some color to some areas

I`m pretty sure the areas are the same: if you look in the bottom left of the art on the first picture you can see a little bit of that blue rectangular box thing that is more easily visible in the second picture.

@SkyeDragon

it does, you just have to be observant. The sign post is gone, but the two parallel pipes are still on the wall. On the far right you can see the same two things holding up something, idk what they are... the first one is just a close up of the lower half of the wall, possibly cropping out the sign post.

Did it look that good when it was repainted or had it been tagged? I have seen street art that looked good at the start but soon was tagged by gangsters. Roosters or gang tags, it is a shame to rune street art.
