I still wonder about the braille on the drive-up ATMs.

Braille on signs always confuse me. Why are they needed? The blind don`t know they are there. Just sayin`.

There are alot of blind people that can see well enough to see that a sign is there, but not be able to read it. I had a friend who had a genetic blindness, he could see peripherally but not strait ahead. Try reading something with your peripheral vision.

Maybe they`re recessed instead of protruding? Otherwise, one of the worst fails in history.

Seriously, you guys don`t know by now, it is so the blind person does not have to reveal their PIN number to the driver and can enter the PIN number themselves.

Ok.. im not sure if your all just trolling or really that dumb.

ATMs are all made at the same time, they dont build "drive up" ATMs thats just happen to be where they are placed during the buildings construction. The builders aren`t going to have 2 sets of production lines, it wouldn`t make sense.

"I still wonder about the braille on the drive-up ATMs."

I actually saw something about that on "how its made". The company that makes the buttons for walk up ATMs also supplies the drive through ones. It would be less cost effective to produce brailled and non brailled versions. Thus, nearly all ATMs have braille coded buttons.

I don`t think that`s braille. It`s two repeating sets of 7 columns of dots (when braille letters are always in pairs), so it`s 3 and a half braille letters, repeating. And only the first 2 letters translate to anything.

    It`s:
    QR_QR_

(or QRB_QRB_ if you charitably call two of the dots on a single column the letter B even though it isn`t spaced that way).

(or QR___J_ if you read it straight through)

I wonder what those dots are really for - if it`s some specialized code (like a bar or qr code) or something like that.

For you idiots that don`t get it, the braille doesn`t stick out so how would a blind person be able to FEEL the dots?

That`s not even braille. Just used fatninja01`s converter and there`s a "letter" on there that doesn`t exist in the braille alphabet.

    Faille post.

Honestly it was probably a place holder in the design showing where the braille was supposed to go and somebody screwed up. As has been said, that`s not braille.

Hate to be a killjoy, but there is such a thing as braille shorthand...Most books in braille use it because it would simply be too long to type every letter.

Not saying that is what this is (As I do not read it fluently) but it is a good possibility.

Doesn`t negate the fact that it isn`t raised >< lol

went to an art museum in North Carolina where under the paintings (incased in glass) they had the title of the artwork written in Braille (the title in english was in large print) So if the viewers eyesight is poor enough to need the Braille, then how could they see the painting?
