Hate filled speech is still hate filled speech even if it`s framed in the defense of a group you don`t hate.

I will say this, however. People can claim that Jews control the world all they want--they may even be right. But the Jewish religion does not require it, as does Islam. One of the major goals of Islam is the world wide spread of Islam. The same is true of Christianity. Both of these religions--which both worship the same God as the Jews, btw--want to spread their views across the globe at the expense of all others.

So, in summary: "It`s not an evil Jewish Cabal, to suggest that would be crazy, and the heart and soul of bigotry.....

ITS A MUSLIM ONE, THEY`RE COMING FOR YOU!"

.... At least he is right in that it makes it easy to spot a bigot when they make comments like that.

P.S. Only stats I`ve found show attacks on Muslims for being Muslim at around double the anti-semitic attacks

The same can be said about whites vs blacks, and men vs women when it comes to Nobel Prizes.

Israel has never accepted Palestine`s right to exist, stating this as a one sided thing is ridiculous. There is a peace option accepted by the UN that has been ignored by Israel.

Look up Islamic Golden Age. Muslims are the reason Europe recovered from the Dark ages.

Look up Jewish Golden Age too just cos you might as well.

I am Russian, Latvian, Belorussian, Ukrainian and Jewish. Jewish being not a religion, but a race. Judaism is the religion, two different things. When I was a little girl in russia, some people found out that my family was part jewish, guess what they did? They spray painted a swastika on our door with the word KIKE and DIE. from taht day on I was beaten (at the ripe ol age of 7) by older children and young adults. They tried to bury me alive while screaming ONE LESS JEW as they threw dirt on after they pushed me into a pre-dug hole. I never did anything to these people and the sad this is, just days before these people were my neighbors and my best friends. They turned on me like I was their worst enemy and yet they tried to kill me. I have never practices Judaism and still dont plan on it, but being Jewish has always made me cautious. BTW my parents arent rich accountants, they are custodians, who try to make their ends meet and live paycheck to paycheck. This man speak the truth.

Wow, what a despicably racist individual. No mention of the war crimes and human rights violations committed by the Israeli government? Is it anti-semitic to notice that citizenship, voting rights, equal access to water resources within Israeli are not extended to all people (not even to a majority)? I don`t think so. I think it`s socially responsible to acknowledge inequalities and injustices, not racist. But yeah, way to go, continuing to polarize the issue.

A gross exaggeration considering Greek expats from the fall of Constantinople sparked the Rennaisance. Besides Europe came out of the Dark Age, the Muslim world is still mired in theirs.

    @Baalthazaq
the people that fled to Europe from Constantinople and started the Renaissance were running from an empire with this flag

recognize the symbol? Ottoman Empire didn`t like polytheists (Greeks would be among those)
    ***********************************

Except you`re ignoring the minor detail that almost every major European scholar that contributed came to the Muslim world to study.

That kindof puts a rooster so far up your argument`s ass it tickles its tonsils. As does another minor detail that the Islamic Golden age was a couple of Centuries of incoming Europeans and outgoing knowledge, not some flash in the pan of running Greeks.

    Ali:

I can, and have told the exact same story regarding myself for being Muslim and/or Arab depending on the circumstances.

Attacks include arson, smashed windows (home and car), attacking my mother, chased with an axe, molestation, obscene and threatening phone calls to the house, brick to the spine (of my 5 year old sister), brick to the chest (my cousin), the loss of 8 teeth (my best friend), and lets say... 150 counts of minor assault.

This gives me weight to say "Racism is a big drating problem you dumb motherdrater" to some asses who think it isn`t.

It doesn`t give any weight whatsoever to any argument like "We have it tough, pick on the some other minority instead".

Pat is not right here just because other bigots also exist. Please see my actual arguments for details.

I`m not saying that Muslims did not contribute to European civilization. They did, especially in Spain. Just as Greco-Roman, Persian, Indian, and Chinese cultures all contributed to the Islamic civilization of the Middle East. But there is a big difference between that and claiming that Islam pulled Europe out of the darkness.

@ Captkava: You may be familiar with the name Petrarch. He was one of the fountainheads of the Renaissance he kept a copy of Homer`s Iliad that he revered because he knew no Greek. It wasn`t until end of the fourteenth century that Greek was studied in earnest again in Italy after centuries of being effectively a dead language. It was revived during Manuel Paleologus journey through Europe in search of aid. And I`m not sure what your point was about the number zero.

    Well, lets see Xq.

Was there a Dark ages? Yes.
Why was it called that? Lack of, and destruction of, knowledge.
Why did it end? Return, creation, and protection of, knowledge for the 500 to 1000 or so years of dark ages.

Now, here`s the one you need to answer: By whom? (Keep in mind here, you wouldn`t answer the question "Who won the American war of Independence" with "Steve", so please don`t beat around the bush with "Petrarch").

There are other fun questions like "Who had the most knowledge", "Where did the knowledge go during the crusades", "Why is so much of your science still using Arabic words? (Chemistry, Algebra, Algorithm, etc. Not getting into Astronomy).

I`m on fairly firm footing here with my claim.

The Greeks for one. They never lost the knowledge of their philosophers and maintained quite a vibrant philosophical tradition in the Eastern Roman Empire. Philosophy which, incidentally, was adopted by Muslims when they took Antioch, Alexandria, and other numerous Greco-Roman cities and inherited the culture of ancient Persia without which they would have remained a bunch of ignorant Bedouins.

Here`s a fun question for you. With such an incredible lead (and I do not dispute the fact that for several centuries the Middle East was likely the most advanced civilization on earth) why is it that they yielded to the West in every scientific field? Medicine, mathematics, chemistry, physics, and not to mention astronomy. In any criteria of advancement the Modern Middle East ranks around the bottom of world civilizations. Such atrophy is at least as remarkable as the emergence of Europe.

    Xquiripat:

I can`t berate I-is-bored for page stretching then answer your question.... shortform is: Failure to move from Primary to Secondary business models was the single biggest failure of the Middle East.

We never had manufacturing, everyone on earth overtook us for trade and we traded our natural resources for those manufactured goods.

This ended in... what, the 80s? The 1980s. Barely. Since the drating 700s. Most of the Middle East *still* runs on primaries (oil money is a primary business, even the distillation (secondary) is mostly foreign controlled).

    Keeping this the short answer:
    Other factors:
Crusades + Mongol effect on psychology (trend towards isolationism).
    World Wars involvement.
Rise of the house of Saud.

    Final point:
The ME is stuck in the 50s, not the dark ages.

    Sorry 2 things.

@Davymid + @Xiquiripat: If you`re listening please chime in with how much Middle East oil is actually foreign controlled for distillation.

I know it was almost all of it before the Shah was overthrown but I actually don`t know if saying "mostly foreign" is still fair post 80s.

    @I-is-bored
My example contains another pic by you that`s too big, and an example of me deleting someone else`s (Cajun`s) for being over-sized.

    @Xiquiripat:
I assume with the concession of who was top dog at the time that the mention of Irish and Greek contributions was more a "them too" than a "them instead". If so, I accept that point.

My turn for a question: Why did the Islamic Golden Age coincide with the creation of Islam and the 500 years following?

even the distillation (secondary) is mostly foreign controlled).
I wonder why that is. One would think that distillation near the source would net more money. Can they not afford to build refineries? I doubt it. It must be for some other reason...

The ME is stuck in the 50s, not the dark ages. I`m no expert on recent western history, but I highly doubt that American or European men in the 50s were throwing acid in the faces of their wives, or women covering everything out of some sort of duty, or stoning being a legitimate death penalty, or any of the other vile things we hear coming out of there.

Also baal, aren`t you making a generalization? The ME is diverse just like any other large continental region. Some parts of it are moderately developed.

It was. Like I said I don`t deny the contributions of Islam to Europe, just the exclusivity of their contribution.

Also the Crusades were never a real threat to the Muslim world. The first and second succeeded mainly through blind luck and the rest failed. One the Muslims got done dealing with internal difficulties they destroyed the Latin Kingdom with little difficulty. As for the Mongols I would argue that the failure to defend against them was a symptom of decline. Not it`s cause. Military power often lasts long after internal rot has taken it`s toll because they were still strong enough to lay siege to Vienna in the 1600s.

The flowering of the Islamic Golden Age began largely in the period of the Abbasid Caliphate long after the b

The Islamic Golden Age flowered thanks to the long cultural inheritance of Persia, Greek and Hindu philosophy, and it`s unique place as a crossroads of civilizations that allowed it to learn ideas from China and the Byzantines and build upon them.

As for the Dark Age point. I do think they are in one. Islam at the height of its power was knowledgeable, powerful, and tolerant (certainly far more than the Christians which was a huge factor in their conquest of the east. Schismatic Christians simply paid a tax to the Muslims instead of getting burned by the Emperor.) It fell behind Western knowledge and consequently power which made it very fearful and insecure. And today tolerance is not a hallmark of Islam as the rampant antisemitism and burning of churches in the Middle East demonstrates. Modern Islam is a pale ghost of what it once was. That said Dark Ages are not devoid of culture. Often they have a vibrant one, but it is usually one characterized by insularity, intolarance

@xiquiripat, I think you are confusing pre-Islamic Persian and Arab culture with what came after. All the significant advancements of those cultures came before Islam and pretty much ground to a halt thereafter. For the most part, their cultures have not advanced at all since they adopted Islam ~1300 years ago.

Can you find one single product in your house that says "Made in Syria?" How about Libya or Yemen? The fact is, if it weren`t for oil, they would all be living like Palestinians and blaming the rest of the world for their circumstances.

@OldOllie: No. The Islamic Golden Age occurred nearly two centuries after the founding of Islam and did have some very significant advancements on a Persain/Greco-Roman foundation after those two civilizations pretty much destroyed each other in their centuries long struggle and went beyond them. The long decline of the Middle East happened after that, not with the founding of Islam itself. In no measurable way can you compare the poverty of Islam today to what it was when it was at it`s cultural height and claim equivalency. You don`t give Islam it`s due.

What a hate-filled, tortured soul... Today it`s in style to hate and insult all muslims. Japanese, germans, jews, italians, irish, blacks, christians, etc already had their turn. and if this guy lived in eras when hating another group was acceptable, he would have hated the acceptable group of that time too.

I wouldn`t respect someones beliefs if it was all hatred and violence either. We are all free to hae our own beliefs and opinions but that doesn`t mean I have to respect it if what you believe in is used to hurt others.

Baal: If the muslim world was so scientifically advanced why didn`t it remain so ?

I know the answer btw, So yes it`s a bit rhetorical.

The muslim world backtracked into isolationism and fundamentalism, during the European renaissance. You could say that most of the muslim world crept backwards into their own `Dark Ages`, and in many ways, like women`s rights, free speech, and jurisprudence it`s still there.

Going out, but check back tomorrow and I`ll try to respond to Xiquiri.

    As for Lazy:
"I`m no expert on recent western history, but I highly doubt that American or European men in the 50s were..."

Followed by several one-country examples expanded to cover "The Middle East", followed by:

aren`t you making a generalization? The ME is diverse just like any other large continental region. Some parts of it are moderately developed.

Pot/Kettle Much? Yes, that was a generalization. If I was just picking Dubai I`d say it`s more modern than most of the US in many regards. Alabama is no competition to Dubai. Dubai wins.

Kuwait is stuck in the 90s. Qatar is stuck in 2000.
Saudi is stuck in the 1850s.
    etc etc etc.

Ok, Xi, this might be the last response for a while, feel free to email questions or rebuttals.

Dark ages: See my comment to Lazyme. That`s one half of my response. The other half is that it works in two ways too.

When was the first time the Burka became enforced anywhere on earth? 1990.

When was the first time it was ever even suggested women be segregated in the grand mosque in Saudi? ~2007 (couldn`t find the source, but it was big news a couple of years back, and huge protests. I put 2007 down as a "max").

Islam is a thousand years older than most stereotypes tagged to it.

If you argue that Saudi is in the Dark ages... yeah, I could accept that argument, but it`s simply not true of other places.

Actually seriously email me, I`m way too tired to answer right now and I feel like that last response was pretty half assed.

One thing I missed, but will post anyway: An entirely secular reason for why Islam was a cornerstone of the Islamic Golden Age. Doesn`t require any faith in Allah or the like.

Literacy. It is impossible to deny that Islam encouraged literacy. Prisoners could earn their freedom by teaching people to read. Prisoners were taught to read.

A 75% literacy rate in the 700s is a huge advantage over anyone else.

Baal: A 75% literacy rate may have been good back then, But today it`s pretty bad. Except for the former soviet republics, Only 2 islamic countries today exceed 90% literacy.
