Yes, to the Ikea disorientation! I went to a HUGE one in Edmonton and within 20 mins of wandering I was so disoriented and nauseous that I was absolutely desperate to find a window just so I could mentally re-orient myself. (Found a small one in a corner on the 2nd floor). If I hadn`t found that window, they`d have been cleaning up my puke. On the other hand I also have a legendary LACK of sense of direction and get motion sick so very, very easily...

I`ve never been an impulse buyer, occasionally something will catch me, but my one friend is the epitome of impulse buying, the random junk they put up at registers were put there just for her.

I hate malls, because of to many people, to much noise and crying babies.

The only time I use my wallet is when I need food, but I only buy the cheapest food like tin cans and big frozen packages of fish and vegetable. the avrg cost of my diner is 5.4 dollars with is extremely cheap in my country where the avrg people eat for 25.5 dollars

and the last time I bought new clothing was last year and it was because it was on 75% sale...

no I don`t look like a hobbo, I look like the avrg guy without buying 1000 dollars of clothing.

Apparently the malls have never taken on my wife. They broke the mold on "penny pincher" when she was born.

@evanbartlett - I agree. When I have to go to a mall, my resistance to this makes me depressed and many times I leave without buying anything.

The aspects intended to force me into a store and away from the central corridor are the very same aspects that keep me away from the mall all together.

Why go to a mall?
Anything I want is much cheeper at WalMart.

Except movies. I go to the drive in for those.

mall movies are WAY too spensive

Nothing really like the overgate in Dundee, with and entire side of the building a clear-glass window. Fair enough it looks onto a church...

I haven`t been to a mall in ten years. They creep me out, sucks the humanity right out of you. There is a reason that a mall is the classic zombie venue.

Oystah -
"I have never been to an Ikea. I think I`m glad"
First you think, "this stuff is nice. And so Affordable!"
Then you`re like "where`s kitchen? I can`t find Kitchen suff."
Then you`re "All I want is a stupid wooden spoon!"
You find the wooden spoon, but when you look there is no exit!
You can`t go back, no registers.
You ask a Sales person who points you to a Short Cut but it leads back to an area you have already seen.
Hours later you find the registers and you bag your own stuff so I hope you didn`t pick up anything heavy.

NOW the fun starts.

Barriers are set up just outside the exit.
You cannot take the cart or your purchase farther than 20 feet.
You have to leave your stuff there and go get your car.
You wait in line with the other cars hoping no one stole your stuff and burning expensive gas.
FINALLY you can get your stuff. No one to help load.

D: Ikea`s my favorite store ever. I guess I take it as a direct challenge to my intelligence to see if I can navigate the labyrinth. :)

Heh, also where else in the Midwest can you find reasonably priced imported Swedish foodstuffs?

I think a lot of it, too, has to do with people`s lack of self-control. I just keep my financial situation in mind, and if I see something I want but don`t need... pass it by. The thing is, most people don`t do that, so all these sneaky ways of doing things are targeted at those types. Money speaks: stop impulse buying, and maybe our stores will be nicer places to visit.

.....people are drating sheep. When i go shopping, I go and buy what I planned on buying. I don`t see how that is so damned difficult for people.

I hate Ikea. I went once and never returned.
I hate Ikea more than cats.
I hate Ikea more than hipsters.
I hate Ikea more than CrakrJak hates bathing.

Crap! They screwed up things again with that Meebo bar I guess. I did the quote correctly. Maybe I need to go to the mall to shop and relieve some stress. No, that place just causes more stress. Which is why I avoid it as much as possible.

[quote">what the crap is mewzack[/quote">

It`s actually muzak. It`s the piped in music that you hear in stores, restaurants, elevators, etc. If you hear a recent top 20 song as a mellow instrumental, and you can just make out what song it is, THAT is muzak. Muzak

gotta agree with gerry on this, I absolutely hate going to ikea.
I literally feel sick if I have to go
doesn`t help that the mrs likes to wander around the apartment bits and I like to bypass it asap
ikea is a guaranteed argument

I don`t get it, I never have a problem finding my car, but more importantly, I never buy more than I came in for...

its the same for Ikea, if I am there for a specific item, I`ll wonder the store and play on furniture, but at the end of the day I`ve only bought what I originally came in there for.

is this just a testament to the weak will power of the average consumer?

Bacon_pie: Muzak is general known as `elevator music`, It`s mainly synthesized down toned versions of top 40 songs with no singing.

IKEA = HELL.

Their maze isn`t working either. I hated running the maze so much on my fist visit I never went back.

Don`t tell me there are shortcuts. They all lead back to a place I`ve already seen.
