i have called the police a couple times on people who have done this. nobody has ever wrecked right in front of me, but a few cars merged without looking and nicked cars, as well as just swerving dangerously in general. i followed one drunk driver for about an hour, because i felt like he was going to hurt someone, and even though i called the police twice they didn`t show. i hope they were already arresting a drunk, because that one sure as hell got away :(

Moral of the story: "Dont text and drive, video tape and drive."
Im sure someone already said this but I am too lazy to read the comments.

No that guy was impaired or suffering some sort of attack, nobody keeps texting after almost driving off the road and into traffic a few times first. He just got progressively worse and couldn`t seem to re-find center.

And his recording the incident was any better?
I`ll wait until a stop sign or light to text. I`ve actually pulled over to text, too. I just can`t manipulate the phone and my steering wheel at the same time. It`s not a coordination issue, it`s just the position of the steering wheel and its size. That, and there`s nothing happening outside of my truck that`s more important than driving.

No proof of texting and driving but I work for the coroners office and I see it all the time. Unfortunately there are are usually multiple victims in these types of accidents. As others have already said, don`t record this crap, call the cops.

it seemed more like a drink driver than a driver texting
also it wasn`t terrifying, he just swerved off into a field. i mean sure it could have ended worse, but terrifying is not the right word

if your gonna drive and do anything (text, talk, record a video, etc) call the damn cops and report a drunk driver.

the correct thing to do would have been call the police and report it.

and reckless driving does not prove texting while driving.

"people make mistakes" This isn`t a mistake, unless you have been living under a rock you know that using your phone and driving is dangerous. If he killed himself doing so that would be one less idiot in the world, but what if he killed say a father, a mother, a family, how many people would have to "learn" from that mistake? i dare say enough people learned from that mistake to make it illegal in the first place. I think it`s sickening to see idiots like that toy with other people`s lives and not get sent to jail.

kid had it coming. didn`t deserve a car like that and doesn`t deserve to be alive. i hope his insurance skyrockets.

He had it coming and doesn`t deserve to be alive?? that`s kind of drated up seeing as how he didn`t injure anyone else. Even if he was drunk, he deserves to die? really? people make mistakes. poo happens. Espically if he was drunk, and young, I highly doubt he`ll ever drink and drive again. Sometimes it takes a situation like that to open your eyes and make you realize it`s time to wake up. No one deserves to not be alive from making a mistake that`s drated up. But people are non-nice individuals so it`s kinda expected nowadays.

If you are busy texting you won`t have time to shoot video of the drunk guy almost killing people.

"Second, the driver who was filming wasn`t paying attention either if he was focused on recording the other driver. So the second driver is just as much of an idiot."

Seeing how it`s only one lane, he really should only worry what`s in front of him, in this case being an intoxicated driver.

First off, how could he tell the driver was texting if he was that far back? It could have been a lot of things, but the driver would have stopped texting after a few swerves.

Second, the driver who was filming wasn`t paying attention either if he was focused on recording the other driver. So the second driver is just as much of an idiot.

There`s no way that was from texting. Any reasonable teen would realize "Hey, I`m swerving 5 yards out of the lane repeatedly and almost hit a truck. Time to stop." Guarantee the guy was drunk or falling asleep.

@a1butcher considering the man pulled over and got out at the end i would assume he knows the situation and @limphotdog you do not have to look at the camera to make it work and 1 hand is more than enough to control a vehicle on a highway such as that

@ LillianDulci.." The kid was texting. Considering the video was posted by the person who recorded it, and that person stopped to help and had informed the police and everything, I`m guessing he knows better than you.. "

he said "I don`t know what`s going on, but he was like, swerving" (0:08 - 0:11) .. So yea, I`m goning to guess even the video-maker did not know

It`s good that he recorded it, but I think it`s also a bit hypocritical... If he had a camera, pressed "record," and left it on the dash board that would be one thing. However from the looks if it he was using either a camera phone or a camera and was holding it the entire time while driving...

And for the people who couldn`t be bothered to read the desc on youtube, the person called 911 before filming, and then gave the video to the police. Anndd for the people comparing his "recording and driving" to the idiot texting and driving; there`s a difference. All you have to do is press record and point it at the road. It takes less effort to start recording than it takes to dial a phone number [depending on your phone anyway] and it takes less effort to point the camera at the road while driving than it takes to hold the phone to your ear and chat with someone. So if you`re complaining about him recording the video, then I guess he shouldn`t have called 911 either.

Mouichi...you are completely wrong. Texting while driving is quickly becoming one of the leading causes of traffic accidents, approaching DUI status. Just because you`re one of the dumb asses who do it, doesn`t mean you should try to defend the "safety" of it. I`ve heard plenty of drunks claim they drive better when impaired too. It`s so damn ignorant of you.

While we don`t know if this person was actually texting and driving, I`ve seen the results of that first hand. I heard an awful sound outside one day; a girl had swerved and hit our neighbor`s mailbox, lost control, and slid across the road. She was texting and driving, by her own admission. I can`t understand why people do this. No text is that drating important. If you think it is, then pull to the side of the road and park before you answer the damn thing.

I think this goes beyond simply texting and driving. When people text and drive they`re still aware of the road in some sense, and capable of accurate correction when they make a mistake. This was influenced by something else, I think, if he or she was even texting at all.

Jeez you guys are uptight. You don`t have to look at the screen of the video recording device. Texting (for most) requires to avert your eyes constantly from the road. Clicking a button or two and holding it steady as you drive to record is far less dangerous. None of you have driven with one hand on the wheel and the other out the window, or a manual car?

And he called the police and then started recording according to the description in the youtube link.

I agree texting/using phone/filming while driving is incredibly dangerous and stupid. But I`m still pissed off at the fine and 3 points I got when I was in London Rush hour traffic, because I`m really going to cause an accident when I`m moving 2 metres at 3 miles an hour every 5 minutes :( but law is what it is :(

driving with a camera is much better than texting on a phone because he was actually looking at the road. I also seriously doubt that was a camera phone. Many people keep cameras in their car just in case they see something they want to record.

I`m not sure who`s more annoying - the driver swerving all over the place or the driver recording it. The swerving one is more dangerous to people nearby, but the recording one is annoying to a far wider group of people.
What ever happened to just being plain drunk? These kids and their fancy gadgets...
When I were a lad, it was all fields! :)

If this is real (and I`m not sure that it is), there`s nothing to say the swerving driver was sober. They swerved out of their lane several times before crashing, several seperate times. Their judgement would have to be seriously impaired to continue texting after such obvious signs it was making them drive dangerously. Assuming they were texting at all - can`t see from the video.
