I never worked in fast food proper, but I did work at a pizza place during high school. I wasn`t worthy of making the pies so I was relegated to cutting and boxing them.

When I got a delivery order from a jerk, I`d `forget` to cut the pizza so when they got home, they`d have to cut it themselves. Yeah, I was a passive-aggressive little bugger then.

I`m still in high-school (graduating in 7 days. Hooray!) and I got a job about a month ago at Steak N Shake. Sure it isn`t wonderful but I`d rather have a slightly sh*tty job then no job at all .-.

The only reason I ever get pissy at this job is because of the customers. I seat people, and cash them out. That`s my job. However, they feel the need to come and b*tch to me about things that honestly just do not matter and have nothing to do with me whatsoever. Like on Mothers Day, when we had a 20 person waiting list and people were complaining to me about not getting food fast enough. I was just like "Well, sorry to disappoint you but as you can see it`s VERY busy". It amazes me how rude people can be. I am never that rude to people at restaurants .-. Even if the service is sh*tty.

Worst job...a few years back I moved to a new city and got a job doing door to door milk delivery (seriously, didn`t even know they still did that) in the dead of winter in the middle of the night with a disgruntled worker who I was hired to `phase out`.
It was approximately 13 hours (9:00 p.m. - 10:00 a.m.) per night in a milk truck with a guy who absolutely HATES you whilst driving on slippery roads and running up icy sidewalks in the middle of the night in a new city. Its dark so you have no point of reference, you have no clue where you freaking are and wouldn`t anyway because its a new city (and this was before all our phones had gps maps in them) and oh yah `no passenger seat so I was literally sitting on a milk crate in a fridge, in winter, warmed only by hate for 13 hours every night. FUN!

In school and working - that`s me. Working as a dog groomer. Yep, I squeeze dog buttholes for money. I shave dog crap out of dog hair. I shave dogs that have lived in their own urine for the past 6 months. I shave dogs who have maggots, fleas and ticks all over them. Dogs pee on me. Dogs bite me. Once I saw a dog spray diarrhea all over this girl`s face. I didn`t like her, so that was pretty cool.

I worked as a claims adjustor for a year. You can guess why it was bad, but the main thing was my boss. The man was the walking epitome of every single one of my pet peeves. The worst was he wouldn`t let you leave until he had said the same thing in 3 to 5 different ways.

Hmm. My worst job ever would be one of the few I did at a golf course. I first worked as a cart boy (cushy for the most part, so not that one), but I also worked as a ball shagger, the guy who gathers golfballs off the range while people hit at me. Most shaggers get a cart with a picker on the front. I got a handheld ball bag, no protection. I got nailed by countless golf balls, mutilated by ants, even got attacked by a coyote. All for a wonderful $6 an hour. Then moved to ground maintenaince. HAAAARD work, lots of heavy lifting, digging, just plane back-breaking stuff. Still got paid $6 an hour. Found out all my coworkers (75% of which were illegals) were getting paid $9 an hour...

i just accepted being poor, i never had any spending money but then neither did any of my friends so it was fine. we would generally be the really sh*tty kids who would nick alcohol and food from the shops and then go to a party, we never did anything productive. i remember we would have like a fiver a week for lunches, and we would spend that money on cigs and not eat.

and now my life is lame and im doing mechanical engineering...how things have changed

Prior to joining the military, I worked for agricultural production specializing in kidney beans. We would take the beans from ancient burial grounds (such as king Tut`s tomb and the Aztec empire) and plant them in a test plot. Due to the sensitivity and rarity of the beans, they all had to be worked by hand. Hoing 13 acres of beans by hand every day after school into the night, followed by hand picking the male flowers for pollen and spending 18 hour days pollenating the female flowers we had to bag individually with a portable microscope that got REALLY heavy after so long in the heat... All for $6/hr and one assistant that routinely hoed down some of histories` most precious legacies....

I was a gravedigger - though most of the work is just mowing the lawn. The thing that got me was that apparently the cemetery is the place for sexy times. Cleaning up (with long tongs) used condoms and skivvies of both sorts from the bushes on multiple occasions was not much fun.

    Burying people was alright, though.

My worst job was working in a museum gift store. The museum was busy during the summer, but the winter would only have 5-10 people per day. I only worked weekends there, then weekdays at Papa Murphy`s pizza. If you counted 8 classes a day as work hours, my senior year i worked 100+ hours a week. Not the worst job ever, just a crappy situation.

My first job was as a grocery store bagger. The worst part had to be pushing carts during all sorts of weather, possibly for hours and working all weekend. Now I work as a library aide. People think that my job must suck, but a consistant schedule and only having to work every other Saturday from 9am to 5pm isn`t so bad. They`re really flexible with my schedule because I am in college. Apply to work at a library while you are in college. Working for a university or a public library are both really good jobs. The people at libraries are all some of the nicest people you will ever meet.

Picking runner beans. No minimum wage in those days, so they paid me very little. It took me 6 weeks of full-time work to save up to buy a ZX Spectrum, which had just been released (so it must have been 1982). Original 48K rubber keyboard model, cost me £180. Hard, hard work, picking from ground level to full stretch overhead for 7 hours a day. I was 13 and with all the suppleness of youth, but that made me hurt. I had to cycle 5 miles each way, too. But at least it wasn`t uphill both ways :)

Worth it, though. My computer, bought with my money that I`d earned.

I did a bit of work in a frozen food store as well, a few years later. That was cold work.

I love my summer job. I work in a garden centre. Get to be outside all day with plants. You don`t see many stressed out gardeners, so every customer is pretty nice.
I don`t mind lifting heavy bags of soil either. By the end of the summer I`m going to be tanned an well toned. Pffft to self tanning and lifting weights.
Sometimes the weather sucks, but if it`s raining we stay under the tent. Unless there`s an important job. But that`s what rubber boots and the rain jackets are for.

Also, worked in a bakery. A guy calls to complain about the cake we made. It was an ice cream cake, as he ordered, but he was upset because it melted from being left on his counter overnight because he does not "baby" his cakes by putting them in the freezer

My first job was McDonald`s. Much like the Lifeguard, my duties included cleaning poop.

Story time: I was the guy working the lobby shift, cleaning tables, picking up garbage, mopping. Well the city was doing some work on the sewage system which somehow caused the sewers to back-up... So the back of the restaurant and the bathrooms had an inch of putrid smelly sewage, and it was apparently MY job to clean it. Well I told the manager to stop making food considering there was SEWAGE WHERE THE BURGERS WERE BEING MADE! And he said no....so I told all the customers, which gave the manager some work, and then I quit and told him to go eff himself...I was 17.

I was a cashier. wait no, i was a sales representative. wait no, i worked at the printing section... oh thats right i worked ALL the jobs, I was a cashier, tech specialist(i didnt know poo about any of the computers or printers so i made things up), furniture specialist, stock ect ect . Did all that for minimum wage and worked enough hours to get benefits but when i asked about them they said "we`ll look into it" and they did, so they cut my hours. The managers were non-nice individuals and once you started doing good in one section (i.e: selling insurance or discount cards)theyd say "congrats, but you suck everything else, your numbers should be better here" then i would say "but theyre just as good as you want them to be" and they would say "NO NO NO THAT WAS LAST WEEKS GOAL SINCE YOUVE REACHED AND GONE OVER YOUR QUOTA YOU NEED TO DO EVEN BETTER" which made me think "why dont i just do the bare minimum so i dont have to do so

It sucked, i remember how they made me sweep the entire storem and this isnt a small store it was bigger than some walmarts and you would think "what dirty people would poop on the floor of an office store. Ohohoh youd be surprised. id have to move heavy tables and packages and i couldnt ask for workmans comp cause id get fired from "missed work" and i did get hurt, busted my foot and worked through the pain. It was horrible. I worked at a festival in my town where i had to pick up bloody pads and id still rather work there than that store.

Grocery Bagger at Albertson`s. Not my worst job, but funniest story. I had been sent to help clean up a store in a seedy part of town. We were cleaning years of accumulated junk from the front doorway. I chose not to wonder what that "stuff" was. Anywho, about halfway through the job, a young pimp and two scandalously dressed young women stepped over me. As they passed, one woman said to the other "sheeeit, some people will do anything for money..." I`m not sure if she appreciated the irony. Or maybe that was her point. : )

I started as a busboy then moved up to a barback (help the bar tenders, restock the coolers, changing kegs, etc.) at large and very busy restaurant/bar.
I would spend at least an hour a night rotating stock in the walk-in coolers. By myself. "Oops, sorry manager, I knocked over a six-pack and `broke` a couple."
A major golf tournament came through once a year; there was so much goddamn beer flowing... I took all the bar trash out to the dumpster... my car was parked right next to it... you get the idea.

My worst gig was picking up litter that had blown over the fence at a Goddamn land fill. It stunk, and as a result I stunk and of course the fence was patrolled by effing bears trying to find a way in. I was given a pointy stick to try and shoo them away.

I worked as a dishwasher in a "fancy" Mexican restaurant all through high school, and they were always understocked. I was only 15 so I couldn`t drive, but every time they ran out they sent me to the store, a mile away. And every time, without fail, I`d be yelled at for taking too long.

I`d also like to add that there should be more of these!

My worst was kind of my best, too. For a few years, I was in the Navy, in the nuclear power program. Fresh out of high school, and directly into one of the toughest schools in the country for 18 months. We had to learn every facet of nuclear power, then apply it all before being sent out to the fleet. I barely made it, since I couldn`t figure out how to balance that with a social life. Needless to say, the psychological part was torture for me, but after being in the fleet on a sub for a couple years...it was worth it. I got to do some of the coolest poo...we even sank a ship. It was being made into an artificial reef, though. I made some pooty decisions, though, and I was fired back in `07. I definitely learned a LOT about life, though.

Had a job for a day cleaning the holds of the oyster farmers boats at the docks. pooty part was they didnt store oysters they just used the hold to store their garbage (yogurt cups/beercans/banana peels etc). The fruit flies so bad all you could do was jump in holding your breath with eyes closed and pray you find the knot to hoist them out with the boom. Virtually impossible considering it was 7 feet deep and only had a 1/2 inch lip to put your foot in while climbing out. So..of course my eyes opened and them suckers caked in my eyes so bad i was instantly blind took a breath and even just one exhale and inhale I could feel the fly meat crunching between my teeth as I closed my mouth lol. Win? :D

Worked at a private golf course as a bag room caddie. Picked up balls on the range mostly. Didn`t help that it was the most poorly designed range ever. It was open until 8 PM, offered an unlimited amount of balls, the range was surrounded in forest, I had to pick up every single ball before I could head home for the night, and the members were all snooty old people who shanked balls constantly. I could have picked up balls in the woods before closing, but I like to not receive concussions from horribly placed drives. So many a night was spent in over an hour of pitch darkness trying to find and handpick balls in the middle of a forest that is a breeding ground for nuclear mosquitoes. Also it was practically minimum wage and I was constantly stiffed tip-wise.

Most likely working some kind of retail job this summer, thank god. Same pay but at least it`ll likely have A/C and be mosquito free.

i worked as a "sanitation engineer?" (janitor) for a couple weeks with a janitorial contracting company when I got laid of from my job. I worked all hours of the day in various retail and grocery stores, 11 pm to 2 am here, 5am to 11 am there 2 pm to 7 pm elsewhere. my stores and shifts would change every couple of days and i got paid $7/hour less than i did at my previous job. I spent a week and a half at Circuit City until the manager called my boss five hours after they opened and told him I didn`t clean the bathroom. I drove a half hour out there for minimum wage to find a piece of paper towel on the floor. I got fired a few weeks later for god knows what (another piece of paper towel in a public bathroom maybe?) the owner didn`t even tell me that i was fired i heard it from someone else after a couple weeks and they paid 2 months back so i got my first paycheck after i was fired. I got my old job back almost 2 years ago now but they pay me about $8 dollars an hour less t

My worst job is worst now. I work at a bulk foods grocery store that doesn`t have grocery carts. We have flat boards (a foot off the ground with wheels and a handle). Instead of a long counter to put groceries on, we have a short stubby one, where we constantly have to bend down and around the counter to lift 25#-75# constantly from that cart to another cart.

Then we get to go put freight (of the same magnitude) away between sales. We get great health plans however for everything... except it doesn`t cover chiropractors. But at least it pays nearly $20 an hour.

Oh, and as we later discovered, he paid us too little as well.

my worst job wa when I was 18. I was working in a betting shop (legalised gambling FTW UK) and was treated like crap on a stick by the other staff for minimum wage. one good thing though, I was on a 5 hour a week contract, so the fact that they kept sticking me in for 12 hour shifts every day meant that one week I actually did 44 hours, 39 of which I got paid for at overtime rate. unfortunately, they realised and soon cut my hours back to my contracted 5 hours so i went from £226 in a week down to £21.25.

Why you ask? The hours, (4am-11am), the back pain from constant stooping to pick up cigarrette butts, condoms and underwear, and the weekly rollercoaster bolt cleanup duty, which is not what it sounds like. Once a week, we had to go underneath all the attractions and pick up all the nuts, bolts, washers and other debris that had fallen off them. I am never riding one of those again.

I`ve only really had two jobs while I`ve been at uni - working in a bookies and bartending.

Bookies was easy - even if you can`t do quick maths, the computer settles 99% of the bets for you nowadays anyway - and I got to watch all the football. Plus once I got a £30 tip from a single punter which doubled my earnings for the day :D
But I was 18 and usually in a shop with one other 40-year-old manager so there wasn`t much chat. And a lot of the customers absolutely stank.

Bartending was much more fun - I had such a good time with all the other staff, and we would go out after work into clubs still in our uniforms and get drunk :P Plus I enjoyed making roostertails a lot more than firing off betting slips.
But the pay wasn`t as good, and tipping bartenders is nowhere near as common in the UK as in the US. And the hours were a lot less sociable so I didn`t get to see my other non-work friends as much.

"if I had money to do these things and the ability to make people around me happy with the money to spare....I`m pretty sure I would have bought happiness."

I think that`s what it`s all about, to be honest.

Last month I spent 1/4 of my take home pay (after tax, before bills) on gifts for family and loved-ones, and the previous months this year have been similar.

In so far as money can buy happiness, it`s about the closest I think it gets.

KFC. I only worked the night shifts, and got spat on, bled on, and threatened with a lawsuit after a drunk woman spilt coffee on herself. Drunks would fall asleep in the restaurant, and kicking them out at 2am was no easy task, especially for a short, skinny, 19 year old girl. The boss would make us stay in the store after closing whilst he counted the money for the day, even after we finished cleaning, meaning we had to sit around in the kitchen for up to 2 hours, meaning I would often get home at nearly 5am despite closing at 2am. And it was only after I quit did I realise they were paying me below minimum wage.

I was a cashier in a cafeteria on the campus of the University of Florida.

Rude students...for some reason they thought it was ok to be nasty to the staff in the lunchroom. I had a student just... come up to me and vomit on me once and walk away. It didn`t help that I had dropped out of school a few years before this and looked at them and thought my life was over.

I had an awful boss as well who constantly nagged at the cashiers and, after the student vomited on me, yelled at me for the mess.

So glad I went back to school and have a nice, decently paying desk job now in a field I find interesting. Yay. Go back to school, kids!

My worst job was my first one while still in high school, working as a dishwasher/busgirl at a truck stop. Along with washing the dishes, I had to put them all back where they belonged. This included lifting heavy platters over my head to put them in the cook`s station. I never got any breaks at all (though I was working 8 hours a day) and I was paid minimum wage. One waitress told me, on my first day, that tomorrow muscles I didn`t even know I had would be aching. She was right. I even started having nightmares about the place, that the buspans were full and I was being chased by waitresses and customers. I lasted all of a month. :)

might sound easy enough when you don`t know that i stood in a trench and that the pressure that was released when i smashed the pipe ended with a hugh beam of sewer shooting several meters straight up befor raining down on me and quickly filling up the trench.. for a moment i thought that was my last minute on earth.

Speaking as a former plumber that sounds like your co-workers may have set you up on your first day. Normally you`d run a snake line through a drain to unclog it before smashing it. I take it you were replacing this pipe. Although they may not have known it was clogged with pressurized turds(probably did though construction workers over here like haze the new guys).

I worked on a "Honey Wagon" when I was 17. For those who are not familiar with the term a "honey Wagon" is another term used for a Porta Potty cleaning truck. One day we got the contract to suck all the poo out of the potty`s at a large outdoor concert which I really wanted to go to but couldn`t afford the ticket. Thinking that I was not only going to see the concert but also get paid for it, I figured it was going to be a half decent day. All that changed when halfway through sucking the poo out of this one disgustingly over filled potty something very large got stuck in the suction pipe/pump. Not normally a big deal, but when there is a huge crowd of people around and your trying not to cover everyone with poo and urine it can be a little nerve racking. I managed to remove the obstruction which turned out to be a backpack full of clothes, fired up the pump and then BOOM poo was flying everywhere. I had forgotten to tighten a clamp on the hose and the pump was in r

Fisheries Lab. I manhandled thousands of live and dead salmon and whitefish. I often killed them by whacking them over the head, and gutting them (first the eyes, then the gills, then a slit to the belly). Hour after hour after hour.

You were lucky. We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t` mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi` his belt. I used to work at GameStop in the Mission Viejo Mall. What I really hated most was when parents would up and leave their children alone in the store for hours at a time.

I would go up to them, crouch, and gently ask, "Hey there. Do you know where your parents are?"

They`d look at me with those soft eyes, as if they were going to be in trouble or get yelled at, and answer "No...", "She`s working..." "I dunno..."

So if you want a kid, and I mean you -really- want a baby, head down to any GameStop equipped with a game demo station in a mall and take your pick of the litter, obviously their original parents don`t want them otherwise they`d be there with them, right?

See? Easy child army, there ya go. Have fun with that. You can recreate Oliver Twist or Little Orphan Annie.

I worked at a bakery (it was my first job) and my boss was a south african bloke, now I`ve always been a bigger girl and at the time I got hired another girl got hired too she got put on front counter (which is what I wanted to do) and I got put out the back cleaning **sigh** everything I did was never good enough it was always wrong!! anywho one day skye (the girl I got hired with) had to work out back with me I was getting good at bringing the hot pie racks out, that were usually extremely heavy, the boss comes in and says Skye has to reload the pie ovens, so she starts pulling them out, she is a tiny girl and she starts to wobble with the first pie tray its way too heavy for her literally she throws the bloody thing at me, I catch it without thinking, most of the pies have slid off the tray and landed in a mess on the floor, the boss comes out sees the burns on my arms from the tray then counts the pies on the floor and deducts that from my pay... skye got away scot free...

Thats not the worst though... my south african boss locked me in the freezer one day the shop was in a shopping complex he locked the freezer and everyone else had gone home, thankfully the cleaner heard me shrieking and came in and rescued me, I`d been in there for an hour by that time... god I hated that job. I quit that day.

I am a lifeguard. It`s the worst but it`s kinda bad. I have to clean up after the bratty kids that swim there, they splash me and think it`s funny and I tell them to stop but they don`t. I`m not really allowed to kick them out because my boss doesn`t want the rich parents to get mad at the club. They parents don`t watch their kids and let really young kids go into the pools by themselves when they shouldn`t be left alone for a second.

I`m a fisherman with a long line fishingboat.. i`m at sea for 2 weeks at a time without any sign of civilisation, home for 1-2 days, then back out. there`s not one machine onboard that can`t kill you, or at least take off your arm if you`re not careful.. we work in two shifts, 6 hours on, 6 off, round the clock.. However, we`re one man short, so every 4th shift is a 12 hour shift, with still only 6 hours off (that`s 18 hours out of 24).. we mostly fish between the Faroe Islands and Iceland, in the middle of the atlantic, 200 miles from land.. You can not imagine how bad the weather can get out there in the winter.. 80 mph winds and 25 foot waves... Oh, and there`s fish guts everywhere :S

My first job was my worst job. Right out of HS (1961) I worked as a painter`s helper in a shop that finished aircraft parts. Every piece had to be wiped down multiple times with a solvent that ate through every kind of rubber gloves I could find, then it started working on my skin. Chapped hands? You don`t really know chapped hands like I do.

I joined the Navy, where I learned Electronics and that totally changed my life. 46 years continuous employment with five employers -- no breaks except for paid time off for vacations and an occasional sick day. All the job changes were my choices. Funny thing, too: I joined the Navy not knowing what they were going to have me do. I had two semesters of Electricity in HS and that qualified me for the Navy School. You never know what`s going to pay off for you.
