Meh. Dumb. Being thin is more physically advantageous. That kid could probably out-run and or beat the crap out of all the other ones, just because they`d get tired.

@DrProfessor: I disagree about the `beat the crap out of all the other ones` part. A fat person always beats a thin one in a fight, unless the thin person has so much better technique that overcomes the weight advantage. There`s a reason why boxers and MMA fighters etc are separated by weight.

BMI is a load of crap anyway... It doesn`t take into account muscle mass. A lot of muscular people would be considered obese because muscle weighs more than fat... It also doesn`t take into account fitness level. You can be overweight and exercise more than a skinny person and technically be more fit than them, just not "skinny".

@gothmo- BMI isn`t a load of crap when it`s seen for what it is- a very rough estimate of how heavy a person is for their height. Nobody`s claiming it can tell you anything about body composition.

@alk3v- MMA fighters and boxers usually aren`t fat. They`re usually extremely lean, and even if they`re not have very high muscle mass. Being heavy alone doesn`t give much of you an advantage in a fight. Having a lot of muscle does.

Exactly, which is why I don`t think this scene will ever happen (unledd you`re in a certain bunker during a certain nuclear war, in which there is a certain social experiment going on with fast food and soft drinks).

However, the "Ey, skinnywimp, get over here!" or something to that nature, will happen if the overweight trend continues. The skinnier kids won`t stand a chance when pushed, for example, or when a group of people hold him down or carry him away.

"Hmm, I play lots of games.. eat when I can.. and yet I remain at ~ 165 lbs, which is underweight for me.. am I broken?"

    Rapid metabolism.

To push fat people, gain 10kg and say: "If I can gain 10kg with a rapid metabolism, fat people can lose 5kg with a slow metabolism. Forced eating is a lot harder than not eating."
    And it will be true.

"BMI is a load of crap anyway"

It is a good basic indicator of body condition, but it`s not the ONLY indicator.

It`s only a "load of crap" if you`re too stupid to realise that.

Hang on, if it`s only below the 95th percentile, wouldn`t that make the thin one the norm? If being fat was the norm, the thin one would have to be under the 30th or so to be insulted.

BMI is only a poor indicator of health when 1) a person is naturally a very muscular or big boned individual (think Norse God) or if a person, through exercise, has significantly decreased their body fat and increased their muscle size (muscle weighs more than fat)

For 95% of the people (illustrative stat only), it is accurate.
