In-n-Out Burger claims to have built the first drive-through restaurant in 1948. Harry and Esther Snyder, the chain`s founders, built their first restaurant in Baldwin Park, California, with a two-way speaker to enable patrons to order directly from their cars without the intermediation of a carhop. Maid-Rite also claims to have had the first drive through window. Other sources cite Jack in the Box as the first major restaurant specifically designed as a drive-through and featuring a two-way intercom.

"uhh the chemicals are definately NOT the reason why this chart grosses me out. americans ARE sooo disgusting..."

Have you seen the way the average Asian lives compared to the average American? Also, cool air you got there, hope you like living 10 less years because of the air pollution.
coke a cola is also used to clean up blood at murder scenes
Coca-cola isn`t used to clean up blood at murder scenes. That`s an urban myth. There are much more effective products for that kind of cleaning, so they use them.

Nothing strange about the McLobster here in Eastern Canada. We`ve got lots of it to share. It`s usually a "limited" item but reoccuring each year.

NaCl / sodium chloride is also used in dyes, soap and to preserve leather. But I wouldn`t want my fries without it.

The Hong Kong rice burger is actually drating delicious. I fell in love with them when I went to the Philippines; seriously wish they`d make a showing over here. It`s the only reason I`d go back to a McDonald`s.

That depends on what you consider fast food. If pizza and kebab doesn`t count I think that number might be right.
I agree. You can make any chemical sound bad if you try. Like "contains salt, also used to melt ice from roads" or "contains oxygen, a highly combustible gas". Just a lame way to scare uneducated people and push an agenda. EVERYTHING is a chemical. Plants contain chlorophyll, rocks contain minerals. Stop blindly letting people scare you without checking the facts.
Nothing tops the dihydrogen oxide fiasco, though. A number of people, most famously Penn and Teller, have organised campaigns to get this dangerous chemical banned, scrupulously stating only truthful things about it, e.g. it`s fatal if inhaled, it`s a major component of acid rain, etc. They get people signing petitions against it.

Dihydrogen oxide is water.
and the markups.... well the numbers are obviously exagerated
I think they aren`t. My workplace includes a food and drink business and the markups stated here aren`t totally unbelievable. Staff can buy some products at cost and the retail price on dispensed soft drinks is 780% of the cost price. The markup on chips (British chips, so extra thick fries to USA people) is about 500%. Even the beer has a 400% markup from cost, and that`s cost to us delivered, not cost to produce, and our bars are cheaper than most outlets.

@RAGEMONSTER- That depends on how clean you keep your bathroom, but it`s true that most people ingest some amount of fecal bacteria just about every day. If you never ingested fecal bacteria, you`d never obtain any of the strains that you need to stay healthy (such as the strains of E. coli that synthesize vitamin K). The only data that I care about with regard to fecal matter and restaurants is how many actual cases of food borne illness actually result from eating there- most especially hepatitis A, which is transmitted via feces.

In any case, I stay away from fast food because it`s fcuking disgusting. Except Burgerville from time to time, which is amazing (though expensive).

The McDonald`s FRANCHISEES make money from soda and french fries. The McDonald`s CORPORATION makes its money from REAL ESTATE. It leases all of its locations to the franchisees. That`s where the money is. McDonald`s is the world`s largest real estate company.

lauriloo - you`re right. Just an aside though - oxygen itself isn`t combustible. Things are combustible in oxygen as combustion is a form of rapid oxidation. Anyhow!

I hate how some things always do that "these chemicals are also found in/used in/used in making/...." We have become an advanced society that did this thing called science that discovered these cool things called chemicals which do these nifty things like help w/ manufacturing of stuff, and keep food from going bad w/out refrigeration, and a ton of other stuff. So lots of folks started using it, so guess what!? They`re everywhere! Get over it! ---------

to me 3700 calories doesnt seem bad because i have an amped up metabolism. and the handwashing thing is BS because you are technically required to wash your hands after everything you do whether it could contaminate your hands or not.
and the markups.... well the numbers are obviously exagerated but the markup is very high. especially on drinks. after the price of the dispenser is recouped fountain drinks are dirt cheap to sell.
and BK sucks, that is all....

I don`t eat a lot of fast food. However, I walked into a Chinese Buffet last week and 7 out of 10 people there were morbidly obese. Want to know why Americans are Fat!? Look at "All You Can Eat" restaurants. Doesn`t matter what you eat--If you eat enough of it, you`re going to look like a fat pig

I went to McD`s the other day. The place was filled with fat people with horrible children. I watched the fat pimply manager wipe his sweaty, greasy face with a handkerchief and then serve up some guy`s fries (one of which he ate). I didn`t eat there, I just let my kid play.

I worked at an Arby`s as a teenager. Never had any health code issues. The meat was ALWAYS either in the freezer, being thawed in the cooler, in the oven, in the "sham" (like the oven but lower temp), or on the slicer. Everything was constantly being cleaned with sanitizer.

I`m sure there are a few bad apples out there but this makes it sound way worse than it is.

i used to work at mcdonalds and anyone who eats there is completely idiotic. to be quite honest nobody washed their hands ever nobody has to wear gloves. Hello?! Some of the people I worked with were picking their noses and literally picking their ass and then touching your food. for the record thought my managers and I washed out hands.

White Castle was first fast food chain in 1921, but not the first fast food resaurant.

Nathan`s Hot Dogs was first in 1916. He got people to eat substandard meats by giving them free to hospital staff on the condition they wear their lab coats at lunch giving the appearance it was all healthy.

Marketing is great! :-D

The reason it doesn`t say how delicious fast food tastes is that the only remotely positive thing in this whole graphic is the mention of how many jobs McD`s provides (usually pooty underpaid jobs but beggars can`t be choosers), everything else is a mix of pointless trivia and twisted words meant to deceive you into thinking Burger King is trying to kill you by Whopper.
Fecal bacteria?? HOW DID FECAL BACTERIA GET ON THE FOUNTAIN DRINK DISPENSERS??
Very easily. They`re hardy bacteria and can survive disturbingly well outside the body. Say, for example, a person uses the toilet and doesn`t wash their hands properly, then they touch the drink dispenser while using it. Or maybe someone flushed a toilet with the seat up, which sprays a fine mist of whatever was in the toilet into the air, on the walls, etc. That could easily get onto someone else, maybe via a surface (e.g. a handle).
