This is bollocks! Genetics is just that! Some girls are incredibly lucky and have a body like this without trying, some quite lucky and just have to be a bit careful with what they eat and exercise, some like me - do not look like this but go to the gym 3 times a week and are fit and healthy but not skinny. Others...well they don`t care.

This is actually highly false, it`s easier for men to lose weight by not eating. Reason being the male body has more muscle.

Muscular athleticism is good for you and undereating to maintain fashionable skinniness that very likely isn`t natural for you is bad for you.

I think women still get the shorter end of the stick on this issue.

Also, you can attain a fair degree of muscular athleticism without constant attention to the most efficient diet and weight training. You only need that if you want to maximise your results. You need it to look like this photo, sure, but you can get surprisingly good results with a much more casual approach.

Also...is that photo fake? His head doesn`t match.

hah! calling bullcrap on that, like most other peep.

Breast size and shape is like penile size, you don`t have a single thing to say about it. Girls, once pregnant, will have to work REALLY hard, put tons of oils to prevent their belly from becoming a warzone. Girls have to work even harder to have their muscles showing. Not talking about orange peel skin and other subtleties of the girls anatomy.

And most boys don`t want to have six packs. Most boys will look "all right", like girls, when not really working out nor shaping up.

losing weight is 20% exercise and 80% diet. you can kill a ~1500 calorie pizza in 20 mins but it would take you ~3 hours to work it off. easier and healthier to just not eat it in the first place. just dont want you wasting your time.

    poppins4:

You live in a country where men are under-represented in politics and sexism against men is not only legal but in some cases mandatory.

Nor are such countries unusual (I also live in one).

Feminist fantasy land is not reality. Reality has never been as simple as that. Except, perhaps, in suppressed submission fantasies.

You know how some people rant against homosexuality because they`ve suppressed their own homosexuality and it`s become warped? I think that`s also true of people who rant about women being oppressed everywhere all the time, blah blah blah, i.e. deep down their sexuality involves dominant men and submissive women and by suppressing it they`ve warped it.

Nowhere in feminist fantasy land are women paid less than men for the same job, as in both the US and the UK. Also, men are underrepresented in politics? Gosh, you`re so right, I`ve lost count how many female presidents and prime ministers there`ve been. I hope you`re a troll.

I bought an exercise bike with an estimated calorie usage function on the computer mounted on the handlebars.

After what felt like several hundred miles of exercise (but perhaps wasn`t quite that much), I flipped the display over to the estimated calorie usage and found that I`d used about a biscuit`s(*) worth. That`s just not fair.

Not in reality. You`re still in feminist fantasy land.

Also, men are underrepresented in politics? Gosh, you`re so right, I`ve lost count how many female presidents and prime ministers there`ve been.

You`re a feminist, so you judge people on their sex.

I`m an advocate of sexual equality, so I judge people on what they do.

Since women have a higher priority than men in politics, that means men are under-represented.

But you won`t understand, because all you can do is count penises.

Sad, really. But sadder for humanity that you`re normal and I`m a weirdo.

I always thought that estrogen was hell bend on making us girls as fat as possible?

There are downsides to both oestrogen-heavy and androgen-heavy hormone mixes. The former results in a higher proportion of body fat, but it`ll be more distributed. The latter tends to result in it pretty much all going on your belly. The former also helps a lot with cholesterol and reduces your risk of a heart attack.

    Win some, lose some.

For consistency, `oestrogens` should be `gynogens`. That`s always niggled at me. I know English is often inconsistent, but it still niggles at me.

Weight and body shape is about 25% to 75% genetic. Just by "not eating like a hippo everyday" will not work for most women to be able to look like that. Also, it is easier for a guy to build muscle and to lose weight than for a women so stop complaining!

and booze, if i didnt restrict my self id be going through ~500ml of scotch a day.

If you did, then you`d soon have bigger medical concerns than excess fat.

I was surprised when I found out how rich in calories alcohol is. Good job it`s not my cup of tea.

I`d just been diagnosed with a genetic disorder that messes up my metabolism, which is a bummer. Explains a lot, but I`d rather have had something treatable. Bottom line is essentially that I need to be fitter than average in order to function at average fitness. So two rooms of my house are now a gym and I`m going to have to change my diet. Pain in the arse, but it sure beats the alternative.

Lets see... to look like that guy there I`d have to go to the gym, lift weights, pretty much do what it says there.

If I were female, I`d probably have that sort of body type naturally. I have the metabolism of a Bugatti Veyron.

So its conditional, but still a true statement in some instances.

A couple of days ago, I saw the cover of one of those "buy our products to look better, you ugly bastard" magazines aimed at men. One of the "articles" inside was about getting 6-pack abs by breathing.

I was tempted to buy it because of the sheer absurdity of the claim, but I didn`t.

This isn`t a comparison between how much effort it takes for guys to LOSE WEIGHT compared to girls. It`s how much effort it takes guys to LOOK GOOD. I can drop weight no problem...most of that weight will be muscle, and I`ll look like Jack Skellington. To get a 6-pack and large biceps takes quite a bit of effort

Come back and say that when you`re 30... When I was in high school, I could eat an entire large pizza to myself WITH an order of fries and not worry about gaining weight. I was 120 lbs on the dot no matter WHAT I did until I hit about 27... Now I weigh 220... In your first 20 years, your metabolism is naturally insanely high...It drops off REAL fast at one point and you arent even aware until its too late.

    i can never get a 6 pack.

with men it depends more on body % fat then muscle definition. try and hit under 10% body fat and you`ll most likely have abs. that means no fast crabs and not sugar and a PEGG stack and constant moment when food hits your blood. not worth it IMO. just have a good personality ane you`ll be fine.

Actually my dad was an natural body-builder (the only supplement he took was a protein shake) in his late teens early twenties, and actually won a few competitions and competed in the Australia wide competition to represent Australia.

But anyway, the key to getting big without steroids or hormones is to exercise once a week and rest the other days (The rule is generally wait until it stops hurting, then an extra day or two).

The reason is the fact that when you do weights you actually cause microtears in the muscle, which the body heals up. This works like scar tissue, it will heal it completely, and then compensate a little more to reduce it happening again, in other words you get bigger. Overtraining usually has the opposite effect, as your body retains energy, meaning you`ll get smaller, and have more fat.

And as long as you don`t eat like a baby hippo, your increased metabolism should burn some fat as well.

it`s probably harder because the definition of `good` is different for male and female. notice the male having a lot of excess muscles to look `good` but the woman has little excess muscle.

only because the average guy is heavier then the average woman so more of him means more cells that need to consume nutritions to maintain life. that and pound for pound muscles consume a metric ton more then most other parts.

don`t eat more then you need, work out once or twice a week and you are fine.

or do what i do, eat fastfood 4 days a week but always be active physically(doesn`t have to be the gym, get creative) and still lose weight.

Hard bodies like that gross me out *shudders* I prefer men who are big and bulky, but not ripped.

It`s funny, a guy I know spends hours in the gym and drinks protein shakes and looks all ripped like the guy in this pic, and yet my husband is stronger than him (he has a large build, quite a bit of muscle and a bit of a gut)

Plus I`ve found that a lot of really ripped guys tend to be really full of themselves, which is a instant turn off for me.

Men tend to have more muscle than women. more muscle = a higher BMR and allows you to burn fat more efficiently with less effort

This is the biggest load of crap I`ve ever seen. Granted, there are some men and women who are lucky to have fast metabolism and are naturally athletic, so they don`t have to put in any effort. That doesn`t mean every woman who doesn`t look like her is a disgusting pig who eats crap.
I`ve been going to the gym a long time, it`s full of girls like her. They all work hard to get there.

@cobra The reason you weren`t seeing any muscle definition was because you were over-training. That`s a great start on a diet (the chicken, water, soy milk ect.) but your body needs rest for the muscle to develop. Three days MAXIMUM!!! of working out. Workout then take a day off and keep repeating that. Also, a lot of people make the mistake of focusing on working out a certain body part; once it`s the way you want it to look, you run into the problem of looking "uneven" (basically ripped abs but little arms and shoulders) It`s best to do a full body workout...

    Okay I`m done haha

The thickness of your skin has a lot to do with how toned you can become. If you have thin skin ,like me, you can get glorious abs by only doing 100 sit ups or less a day. Those with thicker skin will have to work harder and may never have the abs they want.

Drinking a lot of water helps a lot. After all, muscles are about 70% water; I don`t think anyone is stressing the importance of water enough.

atlasotus, thanks for the pointers, but i cant exactly do that. I have a strict training regimen (muay thai), so i cant exactly slow down on my training. its 6 days a week (4 days minimum), every week. There are a lot of guys (and ladies) at my gym who do the same regimen as me. The ladies (smoking hot by the way) even get more definition than me. So, for now i think I will stick with my blaming it on genetics.

I think most of you are missing the point.

The point is that most (note the usage of the term "most") men find the standard of women beauty to be simply skinny ones, something that requires only mental strain to achieve, while women consider the men looking-good standard to be buffed (even if slightly), something that requires both mental and physical strain.

I`m not saying I concur with said point, but at least I got it, laughed and never thought of complaining about something which is clearly not the point on this comment section.

I agree with moefreak. Some muscles are okay/good but as many as this guy has is a turn off. I`d rather a guy have no muscles and have a bit of fat on him than to look like the guy in this picture.

And as many have said already, it`s definitely wrong and it depends on the individual. I can/do lose weight by eating healthy, but the alternative isn`t "eating like a hippo". And eating healthy alone wont allow me to look like this girl. There`s definitely effort involved, and it`s even harder after having a kid.

Yeah but see the issue here is muscly guys (see picture) are drating gross. If men like the skeletor look, then cool, but I`ve got say actually that starving yourself is a bit of work-- to actually be FIT (since this had fitness in the title) isn`t sitting around starving and eating lettuce. Working out is working out. I don`t think anybody should go super nuts with it, since all those muscles are not the epitome of hotness. Lanky guys with no muscle tone: hot.

I agree with HtF. It`s proven that it`s infinitely easier for women to put on weight, compared to men, and a lot harder to take it off. I`ve fluctuated between a 10 and 6 my whole life. And whenever I`m at that six, it`s hard work to keep it. Thus why I swim like two hours a day and do at least twenty minutes weight training.

My boyfriend is built like that guy. In the past, I haven`t preferred it, but he`s very healthy & he works hard to stay in shape. It`s true that I don`t have to work nearly as hard, but I also don`t have a six-pack as a result. It`s not even a matter of starving myself- I eat what I want, when I want. It`s just that most people want fast food all the time, whereas I can`t stand the stuff. I`d rather have some sliced strawberries with cream cheese dip over french fries & a soda.

a.) women don`t necessarily dig guys that look like they spend more time looking in the mirror than at their surrounds, and that you`re okay to have a normal body shape,

@rheaonon and trudenter - there is a huge difference in calories burnt between the two extremes of swimming. On the one hand there is ripping up and down the fast lane, dredging the baby pish up from the bottom, and on the other hand there is stately gliding up and down the slow lane like a continent adrift.

Being a crap swimmer I produce more splashing and waves than the former, but at the pace of the latter.

6000 good calories a day + almost no sugars, fats, sauces or flavours and I still cant break 145 lbs >.< As a labourer I developed a resiliency to "shocking" muscles into shape but find that lower weights with extremely high reps give far greater results in stamina, strength and buff. Instead of jogging I replaced my leather skipping rope with a 3/16 steel airplane cable and do about 50 - 60 reps per muscle group alternating daily finally bringing some gains.

My gf on the other hand gave up bread lol.

Headaches are either withdrawal because your body is basically addicted to your poo eating habits or you`re cutting out water and getting dehydration headaches...
The only reason you have trouble losing weight is you aren`t just cutting the bad foods, you`re cutting all foods. When you starve your body it flips out and stores everything you consume and shuts down everything it can.

Guys burn 26.5% more calories than women do. Also, women`s breast size changes depending on exercise plans. For example, unless you want a no-ass, boy-chested woman, the girl will have to eat regularly and work out in the abdomen, arms, and thighs region. Also, it`s not "Don`t eat like a drating hippo", it`s more like "Don`t drating eat at all. Seriously. Go look at what a legit starving African kid eats and eat like 1/4th of that. That`s your meal for the week."

I`ve seen at least half a dozen women in this thread saying "this picture is rubbish, men can lose weight more easily than women."

LOOK AT THE PICTURE. Both parts. Yes, not only the woman. There`s a man in the picture as well. You`ve obviously ignored him because he`s not a woman, but look carefully and you`ll see him eventually.

    Noticed him at last?

Does he look skinny to you?

    (Clue - he doesn`t).

Well drat me, it`s not a photo about losing lots of weight and being skinny. Unless you are so dismissive of men that you can look at a photo of a woman and a man and see only the woman.

Alternatively, I suppose you might be so monumentally ignorant of men that you really think that all any man needs to do to get a figure like that is cut down on sugary drinks, nothing more. Since maintaining such a ludicrous degree of ignorance would require utterly ignoring men and not thinking of them as human, it`s much the same attitu

Also, if the man starved and dehydrated himself he wouldn`t have that much muscle definition.

It`s far from unknown for bodybuilders to dehydrate themselves *for a competition*. Not all the time.

It`s bad for you and it makes you weak, but it also makes your muscles stand out more. So it`s done.

Hey, Angilion, relax. All we (since I guess any woman is a representative of all women to you) are saying is that it isn`t somehow significantly easier for a woman to fit into the current standards of beauty than it is for a man. Sure, men "need" to be more muscly than women do. It is much, much easier for men to build muscle. It is also much easier for men to lose weight. Women`s bodies are naturally much more shapely and full of fat, and neither of those things fit with the current ideals of beaty. Not only that, but women are judged far more harshly for not fitting in with the current beauty ideals. So, I guess what I`m saying here is: stfu.

Actually it doesn`t take "years" of hard work. One year of following the workout of someone who knows what they are doing while eating a proper diet and you can look like him. The ideal that you have to spend 20 years to get in that good of shape is false. The problem is most men workout every single day of the week, and that slows down muscle growth so people who constantly work out develop muscles slower. If you know what you are doing and follow that routine you can be built like him in 1 year. Though you still have to work out to maintain the body, but it doesn`t take as long to get to that point as most people like to think.

Moefreak, it is NOT easier for a man to lose weight than it is for a woman. Consume less calories than you expend during the day and you will lose weight. This applies equally for men and women.

True, but since the average calorie expenditure for men is a fair bit higher than the average calorie expenditure for women (because of the average difference in size and muscle mass), it`s a bit easier. Not the vast amount some people are claiming, but a bit.

No, you don`t. You aren`t stupid enough to believe that "at least half a dozen women in this thread" means "all women", so you can`t believe that statement. You must be lying in order to defame me.

Of course, it will work to some extent. You must have known that too.

    Shame on you.

Or maybe you`re so sexist that you think women are all the same and that as a result you think that a reference to some women who do something is a reference to all women. Still shame on you.

All we are saying is that it isn`t somehow significantly easier for a woman to fit into the current standards of beauty than it is for a man.

Also an untrue statement. That wasn`t what the people I referred to were saying. Not only is it not all they were saying, it`s completely different to what they were saying.

How dumb do you expect me to believe you are?

Also, note this from my first post in this thread:

    Thursday, May 26, 2011 12:27:56 PM
I think women still get the shorter end of the stick on this issue.

If you and the others were actually saying what you ludicrously claim (above) to have been saying, I wouldn`t have been arguing with you.

Go to a shop and see if you can buy some honesty. You need some, badly.

Yes, I`m being harsh on you. You made a very nasty attack on me and I hold you in contempt for it.

Raptor Hawk you fail to see the point of this is BEAUTY, when a guys skinny hes not attractive when a girl is, she is a attractive. We have to work to get attractive and they just put on make up, have periods, get pissy, have birth(which probably equals up to all the workout pains ive felt) dont have a right to say its harder being a man in this world. Women opperssion and poo is another story so leave that topic out thank you.

Sort of true so far, although it`s a description of social norms and not as absolute as you state.

But then you`re off into the territory of trolls and ignorant bigots:

We have to work to get attractive and they just put on make up,

If it was that easy, almost every woman would be an excellent match for whatever the norm for attractiveness was where and when she lived. You`re obviously wrong.

    have periods, get pissy,

Oh yeah, everyone knows those are key factors in being attractive. You`re not making any sense.

have birth(which probably equals up to all the workout pains ive felt)

I`ve never known anyone need an epidural to cope with workout pains.

Urgh... just on the surface, girls have to work out (depending on your body type), dress in fashionable clothing, pluck their eyebrows, shave legs and underarms and bikini line, wear heels or uncomfortable shoes, wear make-up, teeth whitening, dye hair... sometimes even bleach hair. Tl;dr beauty is pain and you have to work for it, doesn`t matter if you`re male or female :/

Girls don`t need to wear make-up or shave their legs or underarms or bikini line. We don`t need to dress particularly well or wear uncomfortable shoes or do anything special with their hair to get a guy. I would know cause I don`t do any of that ever and I had a boyfriend for two years which only ended cause I chose to end it and guys hit on me all of the time and I would say I spend less time than a lot of guys getting ready in the morning.

Yeah women don`t have to exercise as much to be considered super sexy, but women have to do a lot more to be moderately attractive.

However, as someone else said, looking like that is super easy for some people because it is mostly genetics...like me. As the guy earlier said: bwahahahaha!!!
