An Emirates Airbus A380 was hit by lightening twice just moments before landing at Heathrow Airport.

Garu, slightly delicate sentence, but you made me chuckle there.

the plane actually acts as a transmitter for the lightning if u notice the lightning hits the tail and then travel to the bottom of the plane on the opposite side

Planes are designed for that. When I was an aircraft maintenance apprentice i dealt with lightning strikes all the time. They mostly just melt a little piece of metal that its supposed to melt, then it goes else where

Tangential question:

A car with the usual metal frame will protect people inside it in the same way, but what about cars made of lightweight materials, such as carbon fibre?

I was not aware that there are humans on this planet that do not know the concept of a Faraday cage

Planes are built with a pass through electrical system. Basically, they have an "UP" wire, and a "DOWN" wire so the electricity goes around the skin of the plane to the ground.

Happened to me landing in Chicago from Frankfurt, people started screaming like the engine had fallen off, pilot came over PA 20 seconds later to re-assure us-still scary as hell....after researching it apparently happens to 1 in a 1000 flights

"A reminder of man`s powerlessness in the skies."

Is it really?

We`re flying: 1-0 to man
Get hit by lightening and nothing happens: 2-0 to man.

Cool shot, but the fuselage of the plane is made from aluminum, which is highly conductive. Lightning will always take the path of least resistance, so it will flow through the hull and right out the other side. Additional measures are taken to protect sensitive electronics from lightning strikes. In other words... nothing to worry about, although I`m sure it is spooky for passengers.

"Another reminder of man`s powerlessness in the skies...... thankfully though, planes can handle it"

A little contradictory aren`t we? Its stupid statements that make people afraid to fly.

AMAZING! There wasn`t even a scratch on the plane!

Everybody knows how bad electricity scratches!
