The beginning is a very delicate time. Know then that it is the year 10191. The known universe is ruled by the Padishar Emperor, Shaddam the IV, my father. At this time, the most precious substance in the entire universe is the Spice Melange. The spice extends life, the spice expands consciousness. The spice is vital for space travel...

I`ve watched and read Dune way too many times...

V for vendetta could easily happen by 2038.

Dune starts out more than 20000 years in the future.

isn`t there a movie that took place in like 1,000,000AD or something? or am i completely wrong

...oh, maybe i`m thinking about the new(ish) Jules Vern "Time Machine" movie from a few years ago. Didn`t he end up going to like 100,000+ years into the future or something?

...ooop, just checked it out: 800,000 years into the future. Good times

The Matrix one is wrong. Morpheus reckoned it was nearer 2199, but he didn`t know that the matrix was on it`s 6th version. Considering that the war started in the early 21st century I`d say that the matrix was set in about 2800.

I think that almost all TV and films set in the future over-estimate the advances in technology that will be made by that time.

Some nice movies in there, and some bad ones.

And some I haven`t seen yet! Time to to a little IMDB work.

with the Japaneses robot development, the American mistrust of an "self-aware" robot; it MAY be possible, especially with European advances in prosthetics.
