25 Sports Legends Who Aren`t Really That Great

Submitted by: fancylad 6 years ago in Sports

Controversial for sure, but think about these names: Bradshaw, Ronaldo, Pippen, Beckham. Aren"t they just all hype?

Pippen was a defensive juggernaut, 10 time all defensive team, won the All Star game MVP in 94 and 2 olympic gold medals....bad reporting is bad

BLEACHER REPORT HAS THE WORST WRITING EVER. Seriously, do they just take whatever garbage freelancers email them? Every single one of their articles is a bunch of uninteresting, biased BS

I have to argue with his inclusion of some of the older quarterbacks in his list. It was a different game back then. Most offenses until the 80`s were run based. If you use his criteria, you`d probably have to add Bart Starr to the list, since Lombardi used to mainly run sweep plays. Let`s not also forget: Bradshaw, Namath, and Blanda all called their own plays! There were no headphones in the helmet back then. That has to count for something.

unlike most of the lists that call certain people overrated, this list actually uses facts instead of anger and personal opinion. 4 stars

Beckham was possibly the most over-rated sportsman of this generation. Never saw him do anything even vaguely notable. Sure, he could pass the ball. He`s a midfielder, that`s what he`s supposed to do. Hell, I can wipe my own arse after I have a poo, but there`s no accolade out there for great arse-wiping skills. Sorry, never saw the attraction. He was better than average, that`s all. Give me George Best any day, thank you.

I`m sure I`ll be berated that I missed those games in which he called down the wrath of heaven and performed individual miraculous feats worthy of Jesus himself, but I`m afraid I missed the vid on those. They`re probably out there on Youtube somewhere.

i agree, pippen could hold his own, if u took him off the bulls, then the overall team defence wouldve sucked, cuz god knows jordan wasnt all that great defensively, jordan was offence, pippen was defence, who had some offensive capabilities... those 2 guys made the bulls great for quite a few years... look at dennis rodman... he definitely didnt add much to the team

Oh youve got to be pooting me.if ronaldo is poo for not playing well in big games, then messi, kaka and rooney should also be in the list(when was the last time you saw those four fckers score in the world cup?). and for beckham, yea, hes overrated, but look at the english national team without him...

Stats shouldn`t be the end-all-be-all that so many in sports tend to take them as now-a-days. The kid who compiled the list wants to be a sports columnist writer. I hope he learns that when playing next to another great, both stats are more likely to decline in different ways. There`s so much more going on in sports than what raw statistics project.

Eh, I thought it was a crap list.

The only one I`ll comment on is Beckham though: the man has ONE-HUNDRED-AND-FIFTEEN CAPS! You don`t captain England for 6-odd years by looking pretty.

In fact, considering what a crappy coach/talent evaluator Maradona turned out to be, I`d say his criticism works in Beckham`s favor ;)

25 - 20 are 100% correct!
21 Bradshaw? He`s a legit great, IMO. (and @Handys, apparently)
The rest? Yup, they`re over rated for sure. Either their TEAM was great or they never faced real, top-rate opponents.
Good list. IDK about the baskeballers really, but those here sound pretty lame (compared to Hall Of Fame status and such I mean)

Agree with Beckham being overrated. He only had that reputation since he is English. No more.

Oh and Cristiano Ronaldo? He`s 26 FFS. He has at least 6 more years before he retires. He`s won the UEFA champions league, Premier League, FA Cup and countless individual awards (Premier league player of the year, ballon d`Or, scoring leader,...).
Pippen: Complete bullpoo. Pippen can hold his own, and made the all defensive team consistently and won the Allstar MVP the year Jordan was out.
Seriously, this is a such a bad article.

This article made me rage like no other. This is a KID whose most favorable memory in basketball history was LAST YEAR.

Also, I am very much in love with the way Aikman played and I was severely butthurt.

Glad to see Gretz wasn`t on the actual list. It really wouldn`t have made sense if you look at all of his numbers and records.

Bullsh*t on the Bradshaw assertion. Hell I`m a Cowboys fan, and have deep respect for him. He is a 1070`s all decade team QB, 1978 NFL MVP, and 2x Superbowl MVP. He won 4 Superbowls as quarterback and no others can make that claim, and with different players. The only reason his stats are not padded like some dinosaurs is his elbow injury forced him into retirement at an early age. He was a leader on the field and a great general in making the right audibles and throwing decisions.

Crap I wish the Cowboys had him on coaching staff to teach Romo how to lead. I can`t believe I`m defending a Steeler. However respect is respect. He earned it period and all others can STFU!

OK, read on and a lot more of these are just ridiculous. David Beckham is arguably the greatest ever crosser of the ball, one of the greatest passers in general and has one of the best free kicks in the history of the game. he also captained his country for a long time and is one of the best players in Premier League history, the fact the article quotes a fat cheating druggy scumbag and a sleazy French pervert as sources only discredits it further. Pretty boy Floyd`s arguably p4p the worlds greatest, going by their reasons for him Manny Pacquaio should also be on the list. And the reason Andy Roddick dpesn`t have more Grand Slam victories is because he peaked at the same time as the best player ever. Theres no shame being second best to Roger Federer.

Beckham does what Beckham is paid to do... Bring people into buy tickets and/or merchandice.

I have to agree with fancylad on atleast one account, Beckham has far too much hype surrounding him. He wouldn`t have become as popular as he is solely for his ability as a soccer player; he is totally Hollywood.

On the other hand, Ronaldo is worth his weight in gold and then some!

I can`t comment on the American sports legends because I don`t watch their sports, but as soon as I saw the first footballer I lost respect for this list. Cristiano Ronaldo "really that great"? The man has 50 goals this season alone!!! Thats not even including internationals.

While I don`t agree too much with Ronaldo on this list, I never saw what the big deal with Beckham was.

It just seems like this guy`s whole argument is based on stats. There`s more to greatness than stats, bro.

Ronaldo was world player of the year, he has had an insane goal return for about 4 seasons now. That page on him looks like it was written about him and 5 or 6 seasons ago.
