I have loved this poem for ages- very VERY funny- and sums up much of my disbelief at the rubbish people will believe.

Funny, I`ve endured such evenings as well, it`s torture to not scream "You`re SO stupid it`s contageous!!!" at some ignorant bint.

I liked this, and very good way to put an opinion across.
Faith is not belief despite evidence, it is simply any belief without proof.

That includes everything from Jesus, to evolution, to LHC time travel. It is the basis of every inductive leap, and every empirical reasoning.
No Baal. The important adjective from the Wikipedia page you linked is "confident".

Your definition of faith would include every hypothesis. Just because someone suggests something doesn`t mean they have faith in it - that`s where the "confident" part comes in.

Love Tim Minchin, love this poem. I`ve hoped for a while that someone would do something like this for it. They`ve nailed it in my opinion.

Tim Minchin is amazing. Look up "If I Didn`t Have You" or "Not Perfect."

Both just simply stunning songs. One hilarious, one just beautiful.

@baalthazaq, Faith to accept evolution? Faith as the basis for "every empirical reasoning"? Oh boy. We need a little lesson in science and philosophy don`t we? I know it`s useless but, you really shouldn`t speak of things you know nothing about.

I didn`t find it hilarious. But I DID find it incredible. So good.

People need to find the common sense to overlook everything that can be explained by faith

Some people here on IAB remind me of Storm quite a bit. I won`t name names. You know who you are.

Even though he`s a bit ignorant, and bases his convictions on a lack of knowledge, and comes off as arrogant, I think the poem is downright brilliant. Case in point: "show me how it works and why and I`ll change on a dime", but if he doesn`t accept how or why, then I doubt he will change his mind. He will just be as blind and with the kind of faith that makes him so annoyed.

Faith is the denial of observation about as much as science is stabbing of monkeys for fun.

In the words of someone who`d be quite brilliant if he didn`t abandon everything he holds dear as soon as he feels threatened: "Does the idea that one afternoon on wikidratingpedia might enlighten you, frighten you?"

Faith is not belief despite evidence, it is simply any belief without proof.

That includes everything from Jesus, to evolution, to LHC time travel. It is the basis of every inductive leap, and every empirical reasoning.

Seriously, why the drat does nobody understand the difference between blind faith and faith, and the difference between evidence and proof anymore? These are cornerstones of epistemology ffs.

Great clip! Wish I could take this with me to certain types of parties, and just let it run in front of some people. When they`re done, rewind, replay for the next poser.
