thats why some people are not cut out to be teachers. because they don`t know better than to not spray fabric/air refresher on a young impressionable human being. go practice common social skills, ex-educator.

I cannot determine which is worse - the actual abuse of authority and trust or some of the (not so) witty comments about the curry smell. Did it occur to you that popcorn doused with butter stinks? Or perhaps the smell of burnt dead meat from all the burger joints, steak houses, diners, etc.? These people immigrated to a foreign land and adapted to all the nasty smells that are the norm in those countries, most likely without a complaint. It works both ways. Most of us (Western) people smell of booze more often than not. That is not a very pleasant smell either.

I don`t see the problem. Teachers are free babysitters. If you`re not paying me and you expect me to smell your stinky ass kids all day, you can get over it if I try to freshen them. Not like she sprayed it in their eyes or down their throat.

Hey, if you stink.. you stink. I had a college class once where the math class before me had an Indian woman who apparently didn`t understand that we have an abundance of water for bathing in American. The point? She stunk up the whole damned room for hours. Soap, water, wash cloth =`s a non stink ass body.

Well this happened in the UK, so you know the lady was undersexed, fat, indignant, had bad teeth, and thought god loved her.

see that, that`s culturalism, not racism.

ps, i love the brits, the above was an illustration of how ignorance makes you look like a bag of vinegar and water.

also, I do live around a lot of Asians that smell like curry(they smell delicious), and you might want to take the understanding that what you eat influences how you smell while you are digging your teeth into a cows a55.

I get this. I know a lot of Hindoe people (term?) who smell TERRIBLE because of the food they eat. "

Apparently, you don`t know `em. Because if you did know `a lot` of them, you`d know its `Hindu`, you`d know that`s a religion not a race, you`d know we`re talking about someone from the sub-continent who in THIS case are BANGLADESHI, not Indian.

Let alone the inside of their houses!

If I could, I would spray everyone with Fabreze
that smells bad. Curry scented or not.

A friend of mine from Vietnam was feeling bad one day after some (American) co-workers had made some harsh comments about the smell of her food after she warmed her lucnh in the lunchroom microwave. We got to talking about the issue & I asked her what American food smelled like to her. She said it didn`t smell particularly bad or good, but that after we eat we (Americans) tend to smell like ROTTEN MEAT! Ewwww!! I think I`d much rather smell like some funkay curry or seafood Pho rather that rotten-assed meat! Oh well, it takes all kinds to make the world interesting.

I know it`s almost wasting my time writing this, but... As a teacher, I can understand this. While student teaching there was a large male student we had that refused to shower and stunk up whatever classroom he was in. His smell was overpowering and distracting for both the students and teachers. The school had tried to talk to his parents about it, and the parents threatened the school with a lawsuit. It`s crazy.

@moefreak - You`re right. That`s why I said the teacher handled it poorly. But point was that this isn`t a race issue, it`s a stink issue.

Note for non-UK residents: In the UK `Asian` generally refers to people from the Indian subcontinent, rather than Chinese/Japanese/Korean/etc as it does in other parts of the world.

So this teacher was fired immediately for Febreezing a kid yet it took 2 years to fire this teacher who burned crosses in the arms of his students and taught creationism (btw he was fired for violating the seperation of church and state, not the actual assault).
What`s wrong with the world today?

meh. Pussies. People should travel more, so they don`t become pussies like this teacher. 90 % of our worlds population smells wierd. First thing i remembered when i came to India was the smells. Good, bad, funny, interesting - it`s the world :-) If you don`t like it, move to Alaska or the desert. Your sensitive nostrils won`t be bothered there.

Pixels, these children were 6 years old. It is not the job of a 6 year old to make sure they smell acceptable, that is the job of the parents. The teacher should have contacted the parents if he really found the smell of food so offensive.

I agree the teacher should have handled it differently.
But would people be more sympathetic to the teacher if the problem was a kid with horrid sweaty B.O. that didn`t wear deodorant?

@myrtheus - I guess you are not alone. An Indian family I know told me that every time they rent an apartment, the manager mentions something about how hard it is to get rid of the curry smell. They have a hard time getting their security deposits.

How ignorant. The first thing you learn about interacting with different types of people is that there`s a lot of smells out there(good, bad, strange etc). She needs to get over herself. Sack away, school!

This seems silly to fire someone over. Curry reeks. I work in property management and we have a high concentration of Indians. Every single one of their apartments stink bad, I spray febreeze in their when ever I need to fix something... otherwise I would lose my lunch.

I think it was a bit extreme but it wasn`t the worst thing that could`ve happened. Curry is a strong smell and if a lot of kids were carrying it, it could overpower a classroom.

When I was in high school there was a black chick that forever smelled like pee. Around Christmas time her home room teacher (who was also black) bought her a basket full of soaps and shampoos. After that day we never seen the teacher again.

Try not to be a moron lemmingboy. The smell of Indian food tends to stick to clothing because of the potency of the spices. It has nothing to do with hygiene.

Wow I don`t get the problem. Air freshener especially febreeze is a great way to handle smelly kids clothing. I thought this would be about the teacher maybe punishing kids by spraying them with febreeze kind of like some people spray animals with water.
