oh. I missed a part.

I do it because I think its funny*, so I`m playing.
Dogs play so its possible it is playing.
Taking into account of my reasons for doing it, I then have more data saying it is playing than it is not.If more people compare the behaviour and shares the data, The more variables you get.

Can go onto saying it helps if the two things being compared shares some attributes.
Human and dog=sure
Human and bug alien=ummmmm

Humans play.
Dogs play.

lets bridge this behaviour, by looking at my two statements. We know humans play by being human, and we have observed dogs playing.
Now It so happens I partake in a similar activity as this dog does, tho against both felines and canines. Wile it differs in some points it generally has a similar build-up and initial reaction. The outcome varies but are generally less aggressive.
Now that I have compared our behaviour and noted the similarities I can go on to explaining why I do it. This way of labelling actions would require: more references=more possible outcomes and more specific or broader connections. And the conclusion is only an estimation.

I do it because I think its funny*, so I`m playing.
Dogs play so its possible it is playing.

*That`s as far as I digg in my reasoning.
The further into your reasoning you go the less general the connection gets.

@BBJellyfish: And if the dog had torn the guts out of the cat, would that have satisfied your curiosity?
If that dog had wanted to kill the cat, that bite would have been lethal. It`s obviously a pregnant mom trying to make the cat go farther from where her puppies are
I love when idiots try and analyse animal behavior :P

If it was defending its puppies why would it STALK the cat.

Dog`s are weird creatures as they are pretty much just mutant pet wolves. A lot of the time you can`t tell poo about why they`re doing what they`re doing because its genes and instincts have been tampered with through successive generations of selective breeding.

Best guess - it was just in the mood to harm another creature.

You people are taking this too serious. "Oh no! Save the cat! That guy is a jerk for not honking the horn! >:O"

"Dude, stfu, it`s nature at work. Hunt or be hunted."

Both of you stfu. It just a dog and a cat.

Personally I wouldn`t have done anything just cause I would want to see what would happen.

Maybe the cat did something to the dog and the dog was looking for some revenge.. You can see how the cat is meaner than the dog anyway.

I`ll have to agree with everyone on this one, the dog was definitely looking to kill the cat, good thing he couldn`t though, or else this would be a very gruesome video.

if the dog was looking for `noms` it would of picked the cat up in it`s teeth and shaken it till it ceased to move then eaten it. it wouldn`t of nipped it then immediately let go and backed up.

@Serpentchick & @JaundiceCake : I agree. That dog was most definitely not playing. Dogs are not subtle...when they want to play they make it obvious.

My cat and dog play all day every day. The cat was just pissed cause the dog got one up on him.

The way the dog bit at the cat was NOT for fun. It was an attack. I have a cat and a dog that play with each other. when dogs are playing, they pounce. They don`t try to bite the whole cat.

The dog wasn`t "having fun". That was a predatory stalk. Probably because she has puppies near by.

Spay and neuter. Especially you, Waremonger. I hope you don`t have dogs.

kuietpsycho is absolutely right - the dog was just having some fun and meant no real harm to the cat. Even if it had, that`s nature at work. That cat was smart enough to take off when the second dog arrived to join in the fun.

gerry: cats may suck, but in this case the dog was a sucker
for believing he could get to a cat.

The dog was playing. If it wasn`t, the cat would be dead. If you watch the dog after the initial contact, it was playing.

Dog behaviour 101 folks :)

@Fuego "the same kind of moron who films nature documentaries and doesn`t intervene."

So, who intervenes with nature when there is no one filming? You don`t interfere with nature. No one should ever "play God" and alter the course of what`s to be. In this case it`s very plain to see that the dog poses no threat, it`s a dog being a dog.

Who`s to say that dog wanted to play? By the looks of it, she was either pregnant or just had puppies and was probably very hungry.

the same kind of moron who films nature documentaries and doesn`t intervene. It sucks for the cat, but no more than it does for the birds, rabbits, squirrels, etc. that cats take out.

Personally, I`d have honked the horn. It would have freaked out the cat, dog, and maybe the old lady.

My guess here is that the dog is a stray. The teets show she`s nursing. Put that together with the stray guess, and she`s in search of food.
