BANG. It takes a couple of seconds to register that somethings wrong. I like the cobra impression with the left arm before the glove comes off. Very stylish. I`m not being evil, but if you do potentially dangerous stuff, then smit can happen. Been there, seen it and done it.

I`ll say again: NOT A HELMET FAIL.

The helmet is fitted with a visor (you can see it from the very start, tinted red).

Had the rider put the visor down, it would have prevented this impalement.

This is a RIDER fail.

The helmet is no more to blame for not being used properly than a seatbelt is for not being buckled.

This could have been a lot worse but it is not a helmet fail. The helmet is meant to protect the head from hitting the ground and not from stopping all thins from entering the helmet. I lost a cousin to the same type of accident, but instead of a branch going through the helmet the handlebar of the motorcycle did when he crashed. Accidents happen when doing things that involve risk and its not always the fault of the protection you are using.

Oh gosh, this reminds me of when I was doing clinicals for my medical class and a patient was impaled in the hand by a branch. They got a terrible infection because of it and went into a coma because of it! I hope this kid got treatment immediately and was put on antibiotics asap!

Yeah you can`t feel it cause of the adrenaline. Also, that was a helmet fail.

i couldn`t decide choosing my reaction: should i say "omg omg! that`s horrible, help him quick! eeww!.. that musta hurt a lot!!!"
or should i point him and start laughing "ahahah! he has a giant piece of wood in his mouth and looks so stupid ahahah! sir, aren`t you the beaver man? lololol"

those two opposite emotions neutralized each other and left me looking at the screen, senseless
damn thats raw. I wouldnt be that calm if i had a tree sticking out my cheek lol
You`d be surprised at what people deal with calmly *at the time*. It seems that people can be badly injured and become detached and wholly focussed on a specific goal as a result of major injury and only freak out when they`ve reached that goal.

I recall a story from my childhood that really stuck in my mind - a local farmer had his arm ripped off in a gruesome farm machinary accident, picked it up, pushed it into his shoulder that it should have been attached to (to reduce the bleeding) and walked a mile and a half in the snow to a hospital before collapsing when he got there.

I have a much lesser example from my childhood. I`d rammed a sledge into a tree, resulting in a cut from my wrist to my elbow and my head hard into the tree. I walked home, leaving a trail of blood, and then passed out. I wasn`t thinking of anything other than reaching safety.

I just don`t get the preoccupation of this type of video. He looks like he may go into shock in the wilderness and there`s nothing remotely entertaining (to me) about it. I-A-B fail.

Nothin` to do there but stabilize it and get it checked by a doc. I`m an EMT, and any kind of impalement=pad it off and let it be. Now if it was obstructing his airway then yeah, we`d yank it and bandage, but he looks fine. Rub some dirt in it man!

Ah. It is just a sliver and he doesn`t even need tweezers to pull it out. I bet once they thought about the situation, they rode the bikes back to the truck.

"Meh, pull it out. Its not near anything vital. You are not going to bleed to death from a superficial face hole."

Worst advice ever. You don`t know how bad it is until you trace the object back through the skin. Doctors don`t even pull things out until they have had a good long look at it.

Leave it in, get your ass to the hospital, and let the doctors worry about getting it out.

"I wouldnt be that calm if i had a tree sticking out my cheek lol"

Actually, there`s a good chance you would be.

Someone who knows more about it than I do could tell you about the various chemicals/hormones/etc that flood into your system when things like that happen.

All I can tell you is how serenely calm and pain-free I felt immediately after an accident where where I broke my arm, three fingers, and badly smashed my face, jaw, shoulder, elbows, wrists, knees and ankle.

The pain and the distress arrived later, shortly after being loaded into the ambulance.

I guess the body doesn`t want you distracted with the pain until after it knows you`re safe from further harm.

A 3 year old could have rode over that bump AND he wore the helmet wrong. Rider fail IMO.

Rider fail.

The helmet was equiped with a visor that would have prevented this. The rider chose to ride with the visor up.
