    Aw, a cow would be so much cooler and friendlier. Horses suck. They`re like swans - bad-tempered, boring and bite-y.

    Very old school. Cows used to be the main working farm animal, which included riding them at times. Horses were too expensive to buy and keep for most farmers. Horses were the main large working animal for only a few hundred years.

    The cow doesn`t really "leap" so much as it just kinda lurches over the pole.

    I don`t think so... I`m pretty sure for it to be a jump, all 4 legs have to leave the ground.

    I`m no bovine expert but I wouldn`t be surprised if it was physically impossible to get a cow to actually jump.

    Dammit, now you`ve made me curious. That question will be stuck in my head until I find an answer. I`ve read that elephants are the only animals that can`t jump (surprisingly not because of their weight but because of the construction of their legs).

    Hmm...a brief look online found a couple of farmers laughing at townies asking the question and saying that cows can jump a little if they`re moving, a clumsy clearance of a small obstacle such as a log. Nothing detailed to back it up, though, just anecdote.

    Any experts on cows here?

    I wouldn`t go as far to say leaping. More like a step over.

    @Angillion
    Bovines can jump if you want to call it that. It`s more of a result of generating momentum from kicking such as bucking and all four feet leave the ground. If your thinking of in context of a leaping jump such as show jumping by horses then no.

    BTW IAB it`s a myth that the elephant is the only animal that can`t jump.

    The general consensus of opinion is that many mammals cannot jump. These include elephants, sloths, hippopotamus and probably sea cows and various burrowing rodents plus a few bat species. You can add several species of snakes such as Anacondas. You can also add that I have seen many humpback whales breech the surface, but never fully clear the water surface. Therefore not technically a jump.
