Looks Like Borders Is Still Pissed At Amazon [Pic]

I guess we all would be too if Amazon made us file for bankruptcy too.

@GreenBatman- Guess what, none of the employees are happy about doing that, either. Unfortunately, that`s the liquidation company`s rule, and unless we want to be out of a job sooner we have to do it. If a small line through the barcode on the back of a book isn`t worth the enormously high markoffs that Borders places on the liquidated books, then go to a Borders that isn`t closing or Barnes and Noble and buy the book full-priced so they won`t make a line through your precious barcode. Simple fix.

I went to a Borders recently and found that they were putting black marks on the bar codes of the books they sell during their close-out sale. I`m not buying a book just to have the cover ruined because they`re paranoid about returns. They won`t be getting any of my money so long as they do that. I`d rather go to Amazon.

But I love Borders! Where else can you get books, films and crappy coffee?

@Djer - E-readers you can read right away and not pay shipping. For what i buy online the shipping cost is outweighed by the fact that i don`t pay tax (they`re usually in another state). Plus there is no line when buying online.

@PhoneyBone - because you don`t have to pay shipping fees, because you have honest-to-god human interaction, because you can start reading your book immediately and not have to wait 8-10 days for it to arrive...

Do I need to keep going? Yes, online stores are good, but there are things about going to bookstores that cannot be duplicated on the online market.

"Fixtures, furniture, and equipment? Sound just like Border`s to me..."

That`s there because the store is closing, so they are selling all of their shelves, and chairs or couches, etc. You see these signs in any store that is closing...

it`s not Amazon`s fault their business model is obviously superior. Store front based business need to understand more and more commerce is going to the internet. Seriously, why go out to shop when you can have it delivered?

I work at one of the Borders stores that`s closing (ironically, not because of sales, but because the landlord was a non-nice individual and decided to give the lease to another company). My coworkers and I have talked about doing something like this, though we`re still debating what to do.

If Borders execs actually had the gall to do this for real, I`d probably take the time to go there, just out of respect for their awesomeness

actually, WalMart is more of a threat than Amazon. WalMart sells its books at a loss just so that it can steal book sales from Borders and B&N

@Cartunze: Exactly!

Amazon is my favorite store. Things change, suck it up Borders.

This was a long time coming, and not only because of Amazon. For the longest time, the coporate exectutives were focused more on the price of the stock than on investing in the store itself. They are finally realizing that investors aren`t in the market for bookstores, and that they are going to have to start focusing on ACTUALLY SELLING BOOKS! Golly!

Right! Because it`s completely Amazon`s fault that Border`s has always been over-priced.

ummm. I do shop at Amazon.com and it turns out that the restroom is only 8 steps away. I think Borders is on to something here.

Online shopping has been hard on a lot of stores. We may have future cities with a decent number of empty commercial locations.
