If Fox News Existed Throughout History... [Pic]

Their news reports would probably look something a lot like this...

@randomxnp, there was a time in history when republicans actually fought for what was right, "Republicanism is the political value system that has been a major part of American civic thought since the American Revolution. It stresses liberty and inalienable rights as central values, makes the people as a whole sovereign, supports activist government to promote the common good, rejects inherited political power, expects citizens to be independent in their performance of civic duties, and vilifies corruption."

So much for believing in inalienable rights and vilifying corruption when Republicans are pretty much all for corporate power and taking away anyone rights who don`t happen to be christian, white or male.

Wow. How historically ignorant is this? Guys, it was the Democrats that opposed freeing the slaves and who delayed the civil rights legislation.

Yah Yah... we got it. Democrats are kind caring and work for everyone and Republicans are evil warmonger racists.

Now, if you really believe in such a generalization as that, get a seeing eye dog and order "Dreams from my Father" in braille.

It is not that simple nor is it true.

The Republican party`s thought process is built around selfishness; Republicans are the party of self-interest. They will also never win in the long term. Social change is driven by much more fundamental forces than Fox News and presidential elections. There simply is no stopping social evolution.

Some people here seem to be confused.

Conservatives have always been against equal rights.
Liberals have always been for social change.

What seems to be confusing people here, is that the Democrats used to be the more conservative, and the Republicans used to be the more liberal.

That was back in the day when the Republican party was against segregation. Then eventually the democrats became the liberals, and you had people actually move over from the Dems to the Repubs (like Strom) because the Dems just weren`t racist enough.

lolol! you make me laugh... someone needs a good history lesson. Conservatives=equal rights to anyway. White male is good, anything else baaad. Back then it was viewed for race, now it`s more sexual orientation. To say that conservatives are more accepting is to call historians liars... conservatives (in general-of course there are individuals who are different) have never been accepting... Check out Fox`s 1/2 Hour News Hour. There was one segment where all it did was bash on people who don`t believe in god.

sbeelz,
Strom walked out of the 1948 Democratic National Convention to protest the inclusion of pro-Civil Rights language in the party platform. Democrats have been pro-labor and pro-rights for a long longer than the post-WWII era.

"It should also be noted that Fox news would be more likely to support Dr. King`s radical thoughts on equal rights than say CNN."

That`s a laugh, because all I ever see is them toss the word socialist around whenever anyone advocates for social justice these days- which is EXACTLY what King`s detractors said about him.

If this is how you honestly think Fox presents its news, you need a history lesson. Infidel`s last supper? Not really. Terrorrism? Don`t think conservative politics ever is in favor of that. It should also be noted that Fox news would be more likely to support Dr. King`s radical thoughts on equal rights than say CNN. As a conservative group, Fox would have seen the Constitution`s "All men are created equally" as including blacks and whites. To say otherwise is to call historians liars.

Now, it is true that the Democratic party has a history of defending slavery and segregation. Many members of the Klan in the South in the 60`s were Democrats. Outspoken segregationist Strom Thurmond used to be a Democrat. The party has shifted significantly since then (Thurmond became a Republican in the mid 60`s), and now is the party of Civil Rights, in that it does a fantastic job of paying lip service to civil rights.

NO, the "civil rights movement" was not an amendment. The "civil rights movement" usually refers to the grassroots movement of people fighting inequality in the United States, using marches, boycots, and civil disobedience as their primary tactics. They won many political battles- but some of their largest victories were not won in the legislature, they were won in the Supreme Court, such as in the decision of Brown v. Board of Education, which declared the segregation of public schools unconstitutional.

I`ll just do this quick (feel free to fact check me, not 100% on this).

While you`re right it wasn`t a bill, it was an amendment, which requires an even larger majority of votes to pass through the House and Senate than a bill does, and I`m sure that`s what toastertown meant. And by "republicans passed [it]" he probably meant (again, not sure) that Republicans had control of House and Senate at the time, and therefor it was within their power to pass it or not.

Context cuthere2. The above quote is where you incorporated the racism slant in response to madest`s claim of party switching. You can`t claim context outside of this thread unless you are assuming that I have knowledge of it, which is the case since you later said I must not be aware of it. It`s a cheap ploy to try to win an argument, but you can`t have it both ways. Either you proved nothing within the context of this thread or you assumed knowledge. Even with the expanded context, I still maintain you haven`t proved squat.

That is my last comment on this. I think the comment history says it all, and I`ve stuck with this far too long.

That`s when I stated that you must not be familiar with his usage of that link/claim in the past, and reminded you why you should not make assumptions.

You made the strange post of asking if I assumed you were aware of his past claims? (Where did I make that assumption? I merely chided you for drawing conclusions about 2 people in the middle of a post. Something you`ve already done many times in this thread - ie: Claims of rage and hate. lol

Notta: "You haven`t proved anything. So unless you can show that there are more racists Democrats than Republicans, it doesn`t forward your argument one bit."

cuthere2: "you`re making a straw man argument since I NEVER stated that my argument was "how many racist republicans are there vs. democrats. Never."

Notta: Also, I don`t see where madest said what you say he said.

cuthere2 - "Then you`re not too familiar with his past, nor my previous discussions with him."

NottaSpy - "so you assume I am familiar with your past arguments with madest?"

cuthere2 - "When did I say that?"

How is that in anyway "mis-representing"? Go back and read, and try it in chronological order.

Wrong again. Please stop mis-representing. Not what I said. What I said was that you were unaware of my former conversations with Madest which showed HIS position and claims.

This does nothing to change the fact that I clearly stated my position, and what I was arguing against, and you completely ignored this and created a straw man argument claiming I was arguing something that I never claimed.

cuthere2, so you assume I am familiar with your past arguments with madest? You also bring an off topic argument with you into a new thread? Then you criticize me for it? I have noticed how your tone has softened since I called you out on being insulting.

I am familiar with madest. I often disagree with his intensity (he exaggerates) but more often than not there is a core of truth in what he says. There is a racist element in the Tea Party, Republican Party, and conservative movement, but there is also a racist element in their rivals. I split with madest in that I am not confident that I know how racist the Republicans are since I can only go by my impressions. I do not see how madest, or you, could possibly know.

See, the link Madest posted has been used before by him in previous arguments, and he continues to maintain that the Democrats and Republicans "switched sides." It`s a common fallacy used by Progressives despite history proving that claim as B.S.

But as you can see, facts matter very little to Madest. As you can also see, he loves throwing insults at me as well - Thus I don`t mind throwing in a few barbs of my own just for fun.

That`s why your claims of rage and "hate" made me laugh - Because I view this as more of a funny exchange than anything else.

Am I passionate about the topic? Sure. Do I let it get to me? Nope. Words on the internet - Perspective.

Why search for polls? No one in their right mind would want to answer a "yes" publicly. I didn`t need any polls to prove racism on the part of Democrats. Just search for:

- Party line voting

- Personal voting records

- Past affiliations

- Deeds (A la Byrd)

Pretty simple to be honest. And the Democrat history says far more than any poll could. The voting records right smack in the middle of the civil rights movement, all the way through it`s end showed who the racists were. Guess who continued to try and block the civil rights legislation? The Democrats. More Democrats voted against than Republicans.

Interesting seeing as how by the end of the movement, this mysterious transfer of racism was supposed to be hitting the Republican Party - Yet still more Republicans voted to push through th

You know, I tried to find a poll indicating that those who are racist identify as "conservative," but I couldn`t...and then I realized why: that wouldn`t make any news. Of course members of the KKK are conservative. How many of them would vote for universal health care, legalization of marijuana or extending benefits to same-sex partners? Madest - Still waiting. Replying to my question with rhetoric will not work. Where`s your proof? See, you made a claim, and you stated it as FACT.

If it`s a FACT, then it should be easy to prove. I`m still waiting. Remember, you claimed one side was "more aligned with racism" than the other. If that`s a fact, then I need to see the study, or comparison of instances.

If you cannot provide this, then you`re spouting opinion, and rhetoric - Nothing wrong with having an opinion. But if you come in here and state it is fact, then that`s intellectual dishonesty.

I don`t understand your point. Robert Byrd said in 1995 "I know now I was wrong. Intolerance had no place in America. I apologized a thousand times ... and I don`t mind apologizing over and over again. I can`t erase what happened."
So what? he`s dead. Were there racist democrats? sure. Was the party most aligned with racism republican? Yes. Why is that hard for you to admit?
Here`s another nugget for you about the party you so admire. Larry Craig was a gay republican senator that voted against gay rights. Shocker? I don`t think so.

"In case you are confused, Democrat and Republican are just names, and say very little about what the parties believe politically. You can scarcely judge a party against itself 30 years ago, let alone 100."

I agree with you Lemuria. Both parties are full of self serving, lying, sacks of crap for the most part. There`s only a small handful of politicians that get respect from me. The rest are crooks if their records have anything to say.

Ha - Funny Nottaspy. I find it interesting that you`d attempt to call me out for cherry picking, yet you give a free pass to posts such as this OP that does just what you claim I am doing - But without the benefit of facts.

However, I was not demonizing anyone, but rather proving MADEST`s claim wrong - Because it is. The "switch" of racist Dems to the Republican Party is not backed up by a single fact. It`s easily proven a lie, and quite telling that people such as Madest must perpetuate this lie.

Heck, I`m no fan of most Conservatives either! I feel both parties are full of slime bags! Heck, I could list plenty of Republicans I have zero respect for and wish would disappear. (Beginning with McCain) - I`m not a Republican either. Liberals on either side are bad news. (Depending on your definition of Liberal - `Progressive` would be a more accurate term)

So try again. Fact remains, what I posted were facts - More than can be said of Madest, the ori

In case you are confused, Democrat and Republican are just names, and say very little about what the parties believe politically. You can scarcely judge a party against itself 30 years ago, let alone 100. There use to be a classification of Democrat called a "Southern Democrat" who opposed any sort of racial integration, and were quite racist. That changed in 1964 when the Democrats advocated the Civil Rights act, which delivered all of those good ol` boys to the Republican party. So there you go, as the political landscape changed, so did the parties. Claiming anything else is either disingenuous or stupid.

Oh hey, there are some of cuthere2`s much vaunted "facts". Cherry picked to demonize liberals while ignoring the failures of conservatives as if that proves anything. Do you understand that we see clearly what you are doing? Shall I find instances of evil doing by conservative so we can have a great battle of wits? Seriously, you hate liberals, we get it. You will never accept that you could be wrong, or that liberals could be right, or anything else that would challenge your world view, so what is the point? You are full of rage and it shows in your posts. Truth is, both liberal and conservative are both good and evil.

Uh no... You failed to read my post, and the evidence that the racists REMAINED Democrats... Trouble reading? I await your evidence.

Ok, Thanks for the 1800`s history lesson. You still haven`t explained why democrats and republicans switched philosophies. Could it have had something to do with the civil rights movement?

Lestor Maddox - Democrat - Brandished axe handles to keep blacks from

George Wallace - Blocked black children from attending school, and announced "Segregation now, Segregation tomorrow, segregation forever!"

I could go on, as the racist history of the Democrat party is a long and shameful one.

How about Robert Byrd? You know, the former Klansman who preferred to see the AMerican flag dragged through mud and dirt than a black soldier? Yea, the guy WELCOMED to the Democrat Party?

What do all these men have in common? They all remained Democrats until the day they died... No party switching. Push the myth elsewhere guys.

Continued: Hayes-Tilden Compromise was proposed by the Republican Party because Democrat lynchings of blacks was growing. This attempt to stop the murderous ways of the racist thugs met with mediocre success BTW...

Jim Crow/Discriminatory Black Codes etc --- By whom? Democrats!

In fact, democrats fought against nearly every piece of legislation put forth by the Republicans. Observe:

1892 - Democrats gained control of COngress. First order of business? Oh yea, to REPEAL the new Civil Rights legislation put forth by the Republicans! It took the Republicans nearly 60 years to fight back to the point of launching legislation again -Fought against at every turn by the Democrats.

Republicans founded the NAACP in 1909, and continued pushing for civil rights.

By the time we turn the corner to the Civial Rights Movement, we have:

Eugene Connor -Democrat - Loved turning fire hoses on blacks to keep them in line

@cuthere2, I didn`t say I was a liberal. I expected you to assume that. Once someone is identified as having a different opinion than you, they must logically be a liberal, right? Your posts are lacking in those facts you are so proud of, but full of slander and insults. I do hope you realize that insults do not fall under the definition "facts".

I found it amusing how you quoted something that doesn`t appear anywhere in this thread. Is that an example of how your logic works? If your facts are quotes that you make up, then I see how you think you are the guardian of truth.

So far your claims about your own superiority have fallen flat. Sorry, I wont be worshiping at your temple of knowledge. You have shown yourself to be nothing more than a conservative with an agenda and a bag full of quips.

let`s keep the facts going:

Democrat Party billed itself (Even in advertsing) as the "Party of the White Man."

Republican Party was founded in 1854 with a mission of anti-slavery

1861 - Democrats began attacking blacks in the North. By 1863 they brainstormed their "4 days of terror" campaign against New York blacks... google it to see the brutal results.

QUIZ TIME!!! Which party was it that used this slogan repeatedly? "Willing to fight for Uncle Sam, not Uncle Sambo?"

Did you say DEMOCRATS? Ding ding ding!!

Let`s continue:

Had the Democrats left things alone, blacks would have enjoyed freedom 80 - 90 years sooner! Instead, the Dems had to go on a racial rampage:

1866 - TN Democrats founded the KKK as a social club. Other racist Democrats loved the idea so much, it exploded in membership and spread throughout the country as a psuedo-militant arm of the Democrat Party.

Ah - Nottaspy, is that part of your liberal math? "Out of the 110 posts you`ve made, I`ve seen 4, and none had links - Thus I draw a definitive conclusion." Brilliant! Math failure too I see?

Here`s some facts for you and Madest. Madest, here are some that REMAINED within the Democrat Party. Do a little digging on a few of these guys and see just how racist some of these beasts really were.

Orval Fabus
Benjamin Travis Laney
John Stennis
James Eastland
Allen Ellender
Russell Long
John Sparkman
John McClellan
Richard Russell
Herman Talmadge
George Wallace
Lester Maddox
John Rarick
Robert Byrd
Al Gore, Sr.
Bull Connor

Look em up! Madest, your link was laughable! Really? Showing regular party switching proved what? Happens all the time, and the fact that the racist nut bags REMAINED within the Democratic Party is quite telling.

OK cuthere since I was such a failure as a history student. Why do you think it is that during Lincoln`s presidency all republican states were in the northern part of the country and all the democrats were in the southern part of the country? Did the republicans just move south? Democrats move north? You act as if you paid attention in school, show us how smart you are.

@cuthere2, so far you have 4 posts and not a single link. The last post I remember reading from you before this thread was basically the same thing. You are simply trolling for a Liberal vs conservative fight. You have presented no facts. I`m confident that your links end up at conservative propaganda sites. It looks like you have no interest in facts or reality; you just want to try to bloody the nose of some liberal. My guess is that for you to be that fanatical you must be rebelling against your past wicked ways. So either you use liberal bashing as a way to feel good about yourself or you`re off your rocker. Either way, it`s not really about liberalism, it`s about you.

Oh, that`s right, the KKK wan`t FULL of DEMOCRATS, eh?

Also: Fox is more `pro-Christian` than the others, since the left hates Christianity, so the Last Supper and Crucifiction ones are teh stupid...

And Kent State WAS the site of MANY VIOLENT anti-war protests, including the arson of the ROTP building the night before the "massacre"...

SO the majority of this bit is just: "Faux News is stupid!" Small wonder the libral IABers think it`s funny. Did I say "liberals think?" Lolz! Now THAT`S funny!

Ah - Madest - Promoting your usual lies I see? You realize that this tired old myth has been smashed to pieces so many times, it`s laughable to hear you still promoting it? It`s called "Dixiecrat" You must have struggled in U.S. history to believe that old myth... lol

Notice if you will, all the RAGINGLY racist Democrats (Byrd, other Klan members, those who attempted to block the Civil Rights movement) stayed with the Democrats now didn`t they? All but one... Interesting... I wonder why that is?

I suppose if you`re the party who had a hand in founding the KKK like the Democrats did, you`d be quite motivated in perpetuating the myth huh?

Lol thats funny because people claim that O`Riely is way too conservative, but here he likes slavery. Lincoln invented the modern republican party, and during the time of slavery, the south was called the "solid south" because they would always vote DEMOCRAT--the democrats like slavery, and the republicans wanted to abolish it. Could you people really be any more stupid?

Perhaps you didn`t realize that`s what they were - I mean, seeing as how this must be a new concept for you. Facts, data, evidence. Why not Google the terms and enjoy a crash course in reality? Enjoy!
