Oh Fox News, only you could make the correlation between Obama"s speech last night and a student suicide.

@Shadow I love how in the comment about how Fox twists things you manage to get the facts wrong. Somehow managed to skip over the very obvious pointing out that it was a coincidence. Seems to me that you are the one trying to twist things and bashing those that you dont like. " trying to hurt who they dont like... which is pretty much anyone with a brain or a democrat... so republicans are fine " <- Yeah other people must be the problem, not the fact that people don`t see a middle ground.. People like you.

Shadow: How do the words `tragic coincidence` smear Obama ? Seriously, That`s a hell of a stretch and Fox news did not `Run` this story it was a blogger Kelly Chernenkoff that wrote it.

Fox actually zeroed in on the fact that Biden fell asleep in the front row during that speech, and did not mention the suicide, at all, in that piece.

CrakrJak, where your wrong is the fact that we twisted it that way, fox news associates two things like that on purpose to downgrade obamas image, of course noone is gonna say obama caused it, but this is one sneaky little way fox is trying to hurt who they dont like... which is pretty much anyone with a brain or a democrat... so republicans are fine

subliminal messages are subliminal

This `story` never even made it to the front page of Foxnews.com, which means someone had to `dig` to find it.

Not unsurprisingly doing a search of the terms "student suicide obama speech", The number one result was not from Fox news, It was from HuffPo, Demounderground, and DailyKOS were also in the top 10 of the search list in google. In fact a direct link to the Foxnews.com page could not be found in the top 100 search list of google. Even the 12 items listed under "News" did NOT include a direct link to the story.

Seems to me this `story` was cherry-picked for the sole purpose of ridiculing Fox news. The `story` was on a blog of Kelly Chernenkoff of Fox news, Which mean it was never "News" to begin with, and the story has since been removed from the blog/site.

So what really happened here ?

[cont] A HufPo blogger scouring deep into the Fox news blogs discovered a blog citing only mere `coincidence` and decided to twist it into "Fox News ties suicide to Obama speech".

davy, I wouldn`t be so quick to throw around "lemming" so easily. Articles published in the Columbia Journal Review(vol 48) and Social Science Quarterly(vol 88) [I forgot the rest] show that Cable News networks AS A WHOLE have become far more opinion based. Part of the problem is they put "opinion" news programs beside "actual" news programs and, at least I hope, they assume their viewers will be able to tell the difference. But if emergence is any indication, they can`t really.

There have been some studies that show Fox as most biased of the Big 4, others that show MSNBC. It is kind of difficult to get the methodology correct to account for nuances associated with bias though.

The point being; yes I do believe it is fair to call Fox biased, but you would also have to accept that all other networks are biased as well.

You know - I keep reading and re-reading that headline and blurb, and I just cannot see what the big deal is. I keep trying to find the major issue with this, but it`s not there.

Obama was giving a speech. The speech happened at a school. While he was there, some kid committed suicide in his dorm. Obama speech - important, even if only marginally so. Kid dead by own hand, also newsworthy. Obama speech and kid`s dead at same school - news story. If one reads this and assumes that the kid killed himself because of the Obama speech, well, that`s a really foolish assumption, solidified by the fact that they expressly state "tragic coincidence."

Pretty sure this is just a case of reporting the news.

Politics is stupid.

vv Musuko, did you just question the journalistic integrity of Fox News? Shouldn`t have gone there dude. Yusuksomuch is about to call you a lemming. And then something about jumping for treats, little lemming. May even get in "Lib-tard" thrown in for free, if you`re lucky.

Just a heads-up. Davy.

"I hate to side with Fox news but I have to admit that a suicide happening at the same time on the same campus is an unusual coincidence."

Suicides happen all the time, and coincide with a lot of things. Why did they feel the need to point this particular coincidence out?

Two seperate stories, the speech and the suicide, with no hint that there`s any relation between them, yet they chose to mention them together. Why?

Call me blind but I see absolutely nothing in the above press release indicating that "Obama Killed a Student". I am by no means a supporter of Obama, nor do I support Fox, but this is a stretch to interpret the article as it was. I read "obama was making a boring speech, meanwhile across campus a kid took his life." nothing more nothing less. bad juju IAB, bad juju

30000 Americans commit suicide each year. That`s 82 a day or 3.5 an hour. This has probably happened already happened multiple times to Obama and most other presidents.

I hate to side with Fox news but I have to admit that a suicide happening at the same time on the same campus is an unusual coincidence. I think the suicide would have been news regardless. If there had been some other big event going on at the same time maybe that would have been included in the article instead.
Point is I think people might be reading too much into this one.

Countless suicides happen every day, yet none of them make national news. However any chance Faux News gets, they will will take it if it means painting Obama in a negative way. It does not matter to them how much of a long shot it is.

i-a-b, you are retarded.

the only reason they made the correlation to a suicide and obama`s speech is because they happened at the same time and the same place. it`s not blaming obama for it, nor is it saying that they are related in any way other than the coincidence in timing and location.

tn11 hit it right on the head. They are stating fact here, plain and simple. The discovery of the suicide coincided with the President`s speech. No connection is made between the two that we can see, other than they took place at the same time on the same campus.

It`s pretty damn obvious that fox is trying to establish a connection in reader`s weak heads that the two are related even though they don`t state it clearly. As Gerry says, the timing is off, which by itself removes all credibility from this.

But does it really matter? So what if FN is subliminally suggesting the speech caused the suicide? FN`s viewers/readers are stupid to begin with. It won`t change anyone`s mind.

And EVEN IF the speech did in fact cause someone to commit suicide directly, it still doesn`t matter so long as you actually watch the speech and see that it doesn`t encourage suicide.

I haven`t actually seen it but somehow I highly doubt that.

`cause Fox is the only U.S. network who sensationalizes their stories to grab viewers` attention? Yeah right. I don`t normally get my news from Fox so I`m not that familiar with their layout, but this story isn`t even in their main political news section. It`s a drating blog.
It`s nothing but a fluff piece. At worst, it`s totally apolitical, and doesn`t belong in the politics section. Nowhere does the writer tie Obama into other than the happenstance that the school *FOUND OUT* about the suicide while the president was giving his speech. Police checked the student`s room at 1:30, so it was some time before then. w/e. I don`t know who`s worse at making news of nothing - Fox or I-A-B.

Uhh, if you`ve ever seen Fox News, regardless of political affiliation, you know that they twist news to make anyone who isn`t a Glen Beck clone look like a bad guy.
That is why we hate Fox.. if they stuck to "fair and balanced," they would have a lot more street cred. :P

5Cats - Related? Really?

It says officials learned of the suicide while watching the speach.
So the suicide was actually earlier, not during the speach.

Someone also discovered a really good parking space at that same time... is that related?
A lot of things happened in that exact instant...unrelated things.

we need to pump money into the education system because it seems that liberals have forgotten how to read before jumping to conclusions. nowhere are they blaming obama, just giving a time line as to when they the suicide was discovered.

vv Unrelated? They happened on the same University campus, at the same time. No they`re not `linked` but yes they are related. It says officials were learning of the suicide while watching Obama`s speech, that makes it related. Not to Obama, but to the event (someone giving a speech) and the death.

Any screenshots of other news sites coverage?

I don`t think Fox is implying correlation here, but I also don`t really understand the point of this article. This person`s suicide is tragic and significant, but it has no relation to Obama giving a speech. Obama giving a speech while something bad has happened nearby that he is not aware of is not newsworthy on it`s own. Slow news day?

This is not that big of a stretch. A tragic event occurred at the same time and location of the Presidential Speech. Fox is not trying to say one caused the other. Any two major events occuring at the same time and location usually make the same article.

This would have happened with other news agencies had it been any other figure. But the Main Stream Media`s knee-jerk reaction is always to distance Obama from anything negative. (example: in 2008, rising gas prices were all about the President...now, not so much. Why is that? And in this case, Obama`s policies (no drilling in gulf, etc) have a direct effect on it).
