@Jasonbobdude
I try to interject humor in most of my posts. Euthanasia is the most depressing part of it. Nothing make my day more than putting down an 6 year olds favorite pet. Even though at times it is for the better. The perk is taking the family pet and fixing them up all good and new and handing them back! :)

Haha, my boyfriend is in the college of Engineering, so this is a pretty much what I think Engineering is vs. what he actually does XD

I know exactly what I`m getting into with Electrical Engineering, and I`m quite content that my life will revolve around schematics.

Hehe ... I have a materials science degree and I liked the stress/strain curve (elastic, elastic, elastic ooops ppppllllaaaasssstttiiiccc!) and the body centered cubic unit cell for crystalline metal latices.

@handys003: And don`t forget euthanasia! Sometimes I really wonder why all kids seem to go through an "I want to be a vet" stage.

I graduated in Electrical Engineering last year. I built a synthesizer for my capstone class, it was awesome! Otherwise, yeah, this is about right.

To all the engineers and students there of:
Please, please, please remember that when (not if) your product fails, someone has to fix it.

You don`t have to spend time learning things outside your major at a university to make you a well-rounded and interesting person, xiquiripat, you could just go to a tech school

this is so f*cking true.... haha Im gonna graduate with my mechanical engineering degree next month haha... but i love the math its interesting.

It`s crap how engineers and scientists have to waste so much of their time studying "liberal arts" for useless credits. Chances are they won`t remember much of it and if it`s something that interests them they`ll likely already study it on their own. That`s why we invented libraries and the internet.

The first "hope/reality" was humorous. This is just pushing it. Note to poster: Head the words of George Costanza, always leave on a high note.

@Wundt: Good job :-) I hate kids who think they`re going to amount to something. If some kid came up to me after seeing "legally blonde", babbling about becoming lawyers i`d slap them in the head with the law code in a nanosecond. Especially if they had drunk parents and did bad on a language test. I`d slap them twice :-)

Genius is 99% perspiration, 1% inspiration. Which explains why engineers smell so bad.

This is how I know that engineering is right for me: the right column seems more appealing to me then them middle columns :D

I`m rubbish at math.
I`ll take my liberal arts degree, thanks.

Lol. I`m an engineer and trust me, it`s wayyyyy cooler than they make this seem. We have programs to calculate all the boring poo for us, and just get right to the fun stuff.

"An engineers job is to find a problem (that may or may not exist) and solve it. "

Not quite... engineers build... if you want to know why it doesn`t work... bring in a physicist.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with a kid several years ago. She had done poorly in an English test and told me it was okay because her (drunkard of a) father had told her she was going to be a scientist. I am a scientist and I took her into my office to showed her the bookcases of texts and journals.

Everyone thinks `science` is the mythbusters. I felt bad introducing her to reality, but it was better she understand.

I`ve got a couple credits to wrap up for my nuclear engineering degree, and I have to say that while it`s not exactly what I thought it would be, it`s still fascinating to me.

Wait.. what is wrong with math? I love math, you cannot be an engineer if you don`t like math. This is the most stupid attempt at poking fun at engineer students.

The only one of these is in my required course list, and even then it`s optional (heat transfer or dynamics, my choice, but I haven`t taken either so maybe they`re similar) :|

Heh heh. A pathetic attempt to make fun of engineering. I told you it wouldn`t work!

well *la di da* look at me, I`m an engineering student who got into this because I`m good at math and I think planes and cars are cool! yet somehow I didn`t anticipate all the boring math stuff that goes along with it, despite the fact that I`m good at it and somehow that makes it less interesting.

Right. Try again.

Electrical engineering uses blueprints, electronic engineering uses schematics.

so you mean to tell me that engineering jobs will involve a lot of numbers, equations, and graphs? Well tickle me pink if anyone doesn`t expect that.

Also, Mr C Bowler: WHY EXACTLY do you need to become a mechanical engineer to learn how to fly a helicopter? Maybe mechanical engineering means something else in Canada, but here I`m learning to build heavy machinery. I have a feeling there are many more non-suicide-inducing ways to get a licence for that.

The experiment thing at the end is not quite true. We got told to create our own project (on the third year) and given a workshop full of heavy machinery to create it. But 95% of what people made was crap or stuff done before.
