The experiment thing at the end is not quite true. We got told to create our own project (on the third year) and given a workshop full of heavy machinery to create it. But 95% of what people made was crap or stuff done before.

Also, Mr C Bowler: WHY EXACTLY do you need to become a mechanical engineer to learn how to fly a helicopter? Maybe mechanical engineering means something else in Canada, but here I`m learning to build heavy machinery. I have a feeling there are many more non-suicide-inducing ways to get a licence for that.

Heh heh. A pathetic attempt to make fun of engineering. I told you it wouldn`t work!

well *la di da* look at me, I`m an engineering student who got into this because I`m good at math and I think planes and cars are cool! yet somehow I didn`t anticipate all the boring math stuff that goes along with it, despite the fact that I`m good at it and somehow that makes it less interesting.

    Right. Try again.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with a kid several years ago. She had done poorly in an English test and told me it was okay because her (drunkard of a) father had told her she was going to be a scientist. I am a scientist and I took her into my office to showed her the bookcases of texts and journals.

Everyone thinks `science` is the mythbusters. I felt bad introducing her to reality, but it was better she understand.

@Wundt: Good job :-) I hate kids who think they`re going to amount to something. If some kid came up to me after seeing "legally blonde", babbling about becoming lawyers i`d slap them in the head with the law code in a nanosecond. Especially if they had drunk parents and did bad on a language test. I`d slap them twice :-)

It`s crap how engineers and scientists have to waste so much of their time studying "liberal arts" for useless credits. Chances are they won`t remember much of it and if it`s something that interests them they`ll likely already study it on their own. That`s why we invented libraries and the internet.

I try to interject humor in most of my posts. Euthanasia is the most depressing part of it. Nothing make my day more than putting down an 6 year olds favorite pet. Even though at times it is for the better. The perk is taking the family pet and fixing them up all good and new and handing them back! :)
