66stang- ...Really? I say that all the time. And so do most of my friends. Everyone says that about cats and dogs. :| And that doesn`t grant any points because of your narrow point of focus.

Cats were gods, cats are gods, cats will be gods.

And dogs will remain stupid.

I don`t understand this "cats vs. dogs" thing. The truth is they both taste good, just very different.

I mean to the ancients they were gods...so not a totally ridiculous assumption.

"a dog attacking its owners (playing doesn`t count) is fairly rare in reality and usually means there`s something wrong"

It just means dogs are, in general, a bit stupid.

I only like cats when they`re not in my house. I would never have one as a pet.

I will say this though, a dog attacking its owners (playing doesn`t count) is fairly rare in reality and usually means there`s something wrong. A feline, on the other hand, will draw blood as a rite of passage into cathood.

People want dogs because they love to feel needed.

People want cats because they love drama.

I like humans to be like cats: independent, self sufficcient and intelligent. Cats are also amazing hunters. If you have a cat, you are lucky to have this wonder of nature walking around in your house. Every move is like a dancer. And when a cat messes up the moves, or trips or something the quickly fall back into graciousness, yet with a small frown of inconfidence for a few seconds. And you can have this wild animal living with you - leaving into a natural habitat too hunt and live a real animal life as they please but still return for your enjoyment. No cages. No fences. No ropes around the neck. Just wild nature - and a funny pal :-)

My cats greet me at the door and jump from the window to the door when I get home, and then when I sit down they can`t get enough attention. They may be stupid sometimes but they understand the sentence "What the drat are you doing?"
Cats are awesome!!!!

Why STILL with the cat hate, IAB?

Cats come from a long line of history. Many cultures revered them as being gods, or somehow connected to the spirit realm. Pagans view them as familiars, able to see and communicate with spirits in this world. Cats possess a higher sense of awareness than just about any other animal and can react in self preservation at the snap of a finger. And if treated right, that same cat will remain diligent in protecting its owner over its own self interest.

Otherwise, I agree with many of the points in McGovern`s comment. Dogs do things until they are TRAINED not to that cats don`t do on their own.

And anyone complaining of a cat having bad breath needs to understand exactly whats in their food... And a cat that has bad breath long AFTER eating likely has some kind of oral infection.

My dog drools. And farts at least 20 times a day and they smell REALLY BAD.

My cat runs sideways and sleeps in my laundry basket.
My cat wins this one.

I like both! Why the battle? I think it`s more about the individual animal`s personality. How can you really argue about one being better than the other?

@McGovern1981 (cont.)

7. some people want a dog that is mean. hence `guard dog.` if you dont want an aggressive dog then dont get one, if you do want one then get one. they serve a purpose. no ones afraid of an aggressive cat.
8. very few dogs dig. and ive never seen or heard of one that has buried and dug up its own poop.
9. ill give you this. they have lots of better things to do, like lick their entire body 15 times over then throw up hairballs etc wherever they feel like it or show you the latest mouse or bird they killed.
10. yes there is a reason: no one likes cats enough, nor do cats like people enough for them to get close enough face to face for the person to smell the cats breath

1. very few dogs drool, let alone in any amount that would make it a problem.
2. dogs only hump people/animals that they perceive to be their inferior (or mate). so any dog that is even vaguely aware of the owner/pet dynamic will not hump its owners (nor will it likely hump anyone elses) leg.
3. dogs use the outdoors unless it has yet to be potty trained or you just neglect the hell out of it. this gives the owner a chance to get sunlight, fresh air, and exercise.
4. only dogs with weak owners go on their owners bed at all. so again pet/owner dynamic comes into play.
5. very few dogs do that, and its usually only the hyperactive ones that arent getting enough attention from their owner. besides, who uses a newspaper anymore?
6. happy tail contusions? i dont know wtf that is.
maybe try not standing directly behind it like youre going to `screw the pooch` when its very excited, even then i doubt it would be strong enough to leave any kind of mark

May I just say, I am a dog person. However, I do have a soft spot for my cousin`s cat as he actually loves attention and will sit with you much like a dog would.

With regards to a few of McGovern1981`s bullet points: I have never been drooled on by a dog (though I know they do drool). However, I cannot count the times that my cousin`s cat has drooled on me while I was petting him. He may not destroy my newspaper, but he`s scratched the hell out of the weather stripping on the garage door. And his breath is vile. You can`t put up a sign that says, "Beware of Cat" because they can easily hop fences and attack you where you stand. Cats may not sniff your crotch, but they still sniff each other`s butts.

I`d say cats and dogs each have equal, but different, vices.

What dog haters say " Dogs are dumb and you always have to mind them. Cats are clever and are independent creatures".
What cat haters say " Cats are evil and manipulative. Dogs are kind and loving".I feel that this "Battle" is not just about which animal is better but what we value more in society; intelligence (cats) or personality (dogs i.e. loving etc.) Of course this is not always the case, and cats can be affectionate and dogs are smart etc. but i`m talking about the stereotypes here. I like cats and dogs btw.

I`m a lover of cats AND dogs. that being said i find people who "preferr" dogs over cats are in desperate need of constant validation.
this is fact, not opinion.
I prefer cats because they are affectionate, yet not overly so. they pretty much do their own thing, like miniature people with lives of their own.
Having a dog is like having a pet toddler. No fecking time to your own thoughts, and so much fun to clean after! and if you`re a dog owner that allows your dog to do its mess on your neighbor`s lawn with out picking up after it, shame on you. you`re obviously too irresponsible to own a dog in the first place.
