This is the downfall of the U.S.
NOT the TSA. But that Americans complacently allow routine violations of person/property/information and do nothing about it.

I pitty the younger generation who will have to face the future.

No, what it`s called is "Indoctrination" get them used to it now, that way when they`re older, you`ll have no problem taking their rights away.

I didn`t see any groping either. And if it`s policy to pat down and check for whatever for any adult, then children shouldn`t be exempt either. If they were, parents could easily hide crap on their child to get past security without it being noticed. Some parents are sick like that. If your issue is with the policy then leave it at that, but children shouldn`t get special treatment and it isn`t groping just because it`s a child.

@BrainBits: excactly my thoughts as well - it`s indoctrination and it reminds me of North Korea.

You may think it`s pointless to search a six year old, until you see that excact point :-)

I can`t believe that woman puts up with that job.. i would rather live in a tent than to be a part of this regime. On the other hand, history proves that a population will do anything as long as they feel they have the governments "blessing". Frightening...

DING DING DING.. a child! Because they would know ahead of time that the child can not be touched.......
This TSA agent was kind did not scare the kid and when she was around her NO NO areas used back of the hand. So no gropey!

I agree it is just stupid to search people the way they do- but, the lady doing it did a good job. She told the child exactly what she was doing, did not scare or intimidate her so kudos to her. This whole terrorist alert has got out of hand- a fuss to prove how terrorised we are.

It`s so sad to see so many people defending this as ok. Yes of course it`s not "groping", but this is also not an effective means to stopping terrorism. All this is doing is making you more compliant to giving up your rights.
America is not the only country in the world that is targeted by terrorists. So why is it the only country in the world to use questionable and ineffective body scanners and invasive pat downs?

The drug test amused me. However I think this search was conducted professionally and respectfully. The child being searched didn`t seem too upset in the least.

Also I`d like to point out the mother was being positioned so she could monitor the search.

I always found it strange that there was absolutely no screening whenever I take a Greyhound bus. What`s to stop me from hijacking a bus and rigging it with explosives? It`d be just as easy as organizing a plane hijacking.

All this screening is bullpoo. Yea the agent did her job well, but the job she needs to conduct is poo in the first place.

This is uncomfortable to watch, however there are two points everyone needs to remember:
    1) Children have been used to carry explosives and contraband
    2) If we didn`t "randomly" check this child, but "randomly" checked the child of someone that might fit into a preconceived look, people would scream discrimination.
I hate the fact that we have stoop to this level, but this the reality of the world today (no matter what you may believe are the causes)

Groping?!?!? Seriously.. its a pat-down. Using back of hands with explaination as its being done what is being done. Like IceDragon77 said, one day a terrorist might be that sick. If they`re willing to fly planes filled with people of all ages into large buildings to level them onto thousands below, I`m sure they don`t care who gets killed or how. If the mom wants her kids to get through security she should dress them and herself (assuming they walked through the sensors together) in clothes that don`t have metal, etc.

She was hardly groped. Does her being 6 somehow make it so that nobody could use her to smuggle something?

Welcome to the real world. Children make great mules for all sorts of things, from drugs to weapons to explosives. This happens not only in places like Boliva but in Americaand Canada.

This video is a great example of the TSA doing a proper job of providing security.

The TSA`s yearly budget is $6.3 billion. to put that into perspective lets look at some other US spending...

The DoD budget for 2009 was $663.8 billion.
    Social Security...$695 billion.
Hell, hereis a whole list (wiki warning).

The way she does her job is fine. She talks to the girl tells what she is doing and tries to be as neutral as possible.
The TSA agents i don`t like are the one who where working at JFK a few weeks back.
Talking about their weekends not guiding the passengers and giving lip when someone forgot to take their shoes off and letting me pass with a can of soda without detecting it at the scanner.

So not this woman (actually doing the job she is hired for by the government elected by the people) but those slackers i came across are the rotten apples of the TSA.

I don`t know how I feel about this.
On the one hand, the airports are owned by the government and one of the duties of our government is to provide protection, whether that be from oversea threats like terrorism or enforcing domestic policy like anti drug laws (not that I agree with those) The TSA obviously does a thorough job making sure that everyone is checked, because as we all know not just brown guys in turbans are terrorists, and not just mexicans hopping the boarder smuggle drugs. Kids are great ways to carry out these crimes BECAUSE people think they shouldn`t be checked.

On the other hand, perhaps the government should lay off the admittedly intrusive pat downs (terrorists can get crafty, and will often find ways to get explosives on a plane without anyone knowing), and instead focus on other ways to prevent terrorism, say by letting pilots keep armed weapons in the roosterpit so they aren`t completely helpless in the event of a hijacking?

It is a lot less invasive than using the palm and fingers. Were this TSA agent doing it the other way I could somewhat understand the complaints of groping.

It is kind of like when someone accidentally brushes your butt with the back of their hand in a crowded hallway or something as opposed to the guy that full-on grabs your ass.

True. Or sleeping gas that can be activated from a sealed roosterpit. Though neither will be very useful against bombs.

She was hardly groped. Does her being 6 somehow make it so that nobody could use her to smuggle something?

Security theater is a term that describes security countermeasures intended to provide the feeling of improved security while doing little or nothing to actually improve security.

God, people are so drating thick sometimes.
"Oh, well ya know them terrorists are going to plant bombs on 4 year olds at an airport to blow the plane up!"

Really? How many times has that happened in America, or the world even? You do know that there is NO security on private planes, don`t you? The thing is, terrorists are real clever. They could just hire a jet, fill it with explosives, and crash it into something if they were so drating eager. They HIJACKED a few planes ONCE.

We should be more worried about crazy dudes who sit in their basements making lists of people to kill. When a governor can`t go to a grocery store to speak without getting shot yet we focus on diddling kids for bombs at airports, that`s when you know our priorities are drated up.

I`m NOT AT ALL for this, very much against, but at least she`s being very professional about it, using the back of her hand on sensitive areas and constantly saying what she`s doing.
Unfortunately the law`s the way it is, so at least try to make the best of it. People need to make a living and I bet this woman`s not really that happy with having to do this to a kid :/

People in general and this really stupid waste of life who calls herself a mother don`t seem to understand that they aren`t trying to find drugs or weapons on the six year old girl... they`re trying to find drugs or weapons that some idiot parent planted on an innocent six year old girl. There`s a drating difference. If preants never used their children as caddy`s for their nefarious bullpoo, then children would never be involved in this. So next time you point the finger (parents)... be sure to look in the mirror first. Jerk faces.

Drug trafficking an even worse reason to turn the country into a police state.

The only way the airlines are gonna see another dime of my money while this continues is if/when I buy a one way ticket the f*** out of this country.

"Someone tell me how hard is it to arm pilots?"

Is this a serious comment? Arming a pilot would just mean that terrorists don`t have to smuggle anything onto the plane, as there would be a weapon ready for them.

"I don`t understand how using the back of the hand means they aren`t "touching" them"

I understand this but it`s the same way with me. If I have to do an ECG on a female I `move the breast with the back of my hand` so they don`t feel like I`m cupping a boob, while my female counterparts just throw them out of the way. It`s still touching no matter how you look at it.

The only hijacking going on at the airport is the Gov`t contract the TSA has with with the feds. The head of the TSA is making millions off us taxpayers by using fear to keep this bullpoo going on. How often does the TSA ever catch anyone? Never!
I`ve traveled the world and no one gets treated as bad as us. Most politicians are exempt from this kind of treatment, so they don`t give a rip on how we`re treated.
If you say it`s for our security, you`re an idiot because it isn`t. It`s about control, fear, and corporate welfare.

These people are professionals, and I`m sure the screening processes is very thorough when hiring these people to make sure there are no sex offenders or pedophiles.
When growing up we learn that it`s okay for mom and dad to touch, as well as doctors. Security people just have to be added to that list.

tn11 - First off, I`d be lying if I said this has nothing to do with it, but what it really boils down to is culture and values. I grew up overseas, have never felt at home here in the states, and don`t think I would want to raise a family here.

Second, for those of us who don`t need to fly because of our jobs, boycotting the airlines is a great way to protest this BS. As I remember it, there wasn`t any difference in air ticket sales these past holidays after the new screening policies were rolled out.

The "key to paradise" was a tool used by many of the organizers of the Iran-Iraq War, which lasted from 1980-1988. The key was usually a plastic key spray painted gold. This "key to paradise" is exactly what it implies; it was a key that supposedly grants one`s acceptance into heaven.
When some of these boys went into the war, they were used as a type of shield to the actual troops. The children were set out first to set off landmines, have the enemy shoot them or to simply scan the area for the soldiers. Most of the time, these boys did not even have weapons and if they did, it would be a rock or a knife. The military did not want to waste guns on people who were definitely going to die. external image children_celebrate.

There are people who would remove organs from a child to make room for explosives or chemical or biological weapons if they had the technology. Why does it always seem the religious adults who believe they are going to heaven have such

I didnt see any groping... and TSA doesnt only check for bombs, they check for drugs as well.
I have seen far too many adults hiding their drugs with their children. Ive seen women hide stolen merchandise under their baby in a stroller!

And I find it funny how after 9/11 the entire nation was blaming the government for not having active preventive measures that could have stopped the terrorists. Now that they do the nation complains at what an inconvenience/injustice it is...

i mean i freaked out the first time i had to use the scanner and be patted down. it makes me feel extremely vulnerable and it is dehumanizing to be seen as a potential threat and as a possible murderer, but at the same time it`s really not that big of a deal. treating everyone as if they could be a danger is exactly what we need to do. i don`t necessarily like it or commend the idea, but its doing exactly what its supposed to do. honestly, americans complain about the lack of security and control, but are too afraid to give up such a trivial liberty. why are americans so against the idea of giving up certain liberties to benefit the whole? real question. i`m interested

If you dont want your 6 year old searched, dont fly. These same people who say "its a six year old you dont have to be thorough" are the same people who get pissed that people with turbans get searched every time, because of how they look. But you should be able to skip a process because of how you look? Bs i say. If 6 year olds got a free pass in security, every terrorist would just strap the bombs on babies. Then where would we be?
